QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 08:46 PM) I've seen Allen play two games vs the Rockies this week. One long homer; he looks good at first base. I saw him in these games as well, since I live in Colorado. He LOOKS good at the plate and in the field, though striking out a ton. The jury is still out, WAY out, but that shouldn't stop anyone on this board from rushing to judgement. If you saw Chris Young yesterday, you'd think he was a superstar, and maybe he still will be, but I kind of doubt it. He's always LOOKED good out there, even while hitting below the Mendoza line.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Sep 3, 2009 -> 03:07 PM) Carlos Torres has a spot on this roster in the future. I didn't see the game, but I've seen him pitch enough, and I think he has the stuff to retire hitters. He'd be a bad starting pitcher full time, other than in the NL, because he is erratic, but he could be productive out of the bullpen in the very near future. Seeing Torres yesterday, after seeing his previous starts, reinforces my belief that he was really, really nervous and not properly composed in the earlier outings. Need to see more, but I'm cautiously optimistic.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 4, 2009 -> 04:25 AM) I'm actually more excited to see Nunez than Hudson. We need at least 2 dependable arms in the 'pen next year. I'd really, like most, prefer that we don't have to go out and overspend on a position that is so inconsistent from year to year. We have to get more help from the farm for the pen. Nunez could be a good start. Santeliz, Nathan Jones (probably not ready), loser of 5th starter battle (Torres?), could possibly help. Hoping for Santos Rodriguez by '11 if he can rocket through the system. Mainly, I think the bullpen acquisition needs to be a lefty, but those guys are typically overpaid.

AND THAT'S A WHITE SOX METRODOME-IMPLODING WINNER!!!&#

Assuming that we don't get back into this thing. Here's hoping that the Tigers beat the Twins by 1 game or in a playoff, and this game sticks in their craw the entire offseason. A great way to exit the Terrordome. -
QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 09:18 PM) If Hudson gets called up, I hope it's just to get a few innings here and there the rest of the way. He's approaching 160 innings, and that's pretty standard for a minor leaguer, especially in his first full year. Good to hear he'll be up. I need a few more positives to survive this most disappointing season. I was curious as to an innings limit for him, but I noticed in his bio that he actually pitched ~160 innings last year between ODU and pro ball. That would indicate to me that he might be OK up to 175 innings, or so, unless college innings are deemed less taxing (though I don't know why they would be when you consider that his college numbers last year aren't quite as good as his pro innings have been, and that he probably, as a result, was throwing more pitches per inning last year.) Anyway, it's good to have something, anything, to look forward to besides getting an early impression on Flowers.

QUOTE (scenario @ Sep 1, 2009 -> 10:22 AM) How many rosters full of players under 30 are currently competing for the playoffs? The Yankees and Angels to name a couple. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 29, 2009 -> 08:34 PM) He did a darn fine job with the majority of "The X-Files" TV series though. Best possession receiver of all time.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 06:12 PM) He might be too short to be an average first baseman. Speaking of that, Konerko is underrated defensively. Never would have said that 5-6 yrs ago. Prince Fielder is about the same height as Dayan, I believe, so maybe the height isn't that big of a deal.

Interesting to look at this assessment coming into 09

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 22, 2009 -> 08:05 AM) Really, what does it take to get an A? The fact that it doesn't even mention the Floyd heist tells me they're not giving KW a fair shake. I'd like to see the GM's they gave higher grades to. -
Mark Buehrle's changeup voted best in the American League

MB got a lot of highlights shown of his perfect game and 45 batter streak. In the perfect game, he threw some absolutely filthy changes for Ks. I'm sure that didn't hurt. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 20, 2009 -> 10:21 PM) Again, not gonna happen. He could be relatively cheap. Chapman's gonna get all the pub.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 07:19 PM) Durham has some great prospects on it. Given that, Hudson's stuggles were logical. I'm actually fairly impressed. I'm encouraged by the 8 groundouts vs. 3 flyouts. He'd been throwing too many fly balls lately. Count was good today, but we're likely giving Freddy only one more try, so his next start might still be an audition for the bigs.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 08:22 AM) Problem is that KC will be the worst offense he'll face the rest of the way. What really scares is that he's scheduled to start in the opener of the 4 game set at Boston next Monday, kicking off the all-important 10 game road trip from hell. At least they've been beatable and we'll miss Beckett, but it could get ugly.

QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Aug 19, 2009 -> 11:30 AM) How old is this guy? Will he at least do well through the first 2 or 3 innings? Hopefully so. I was hoping that the White Sox would bring up Hudson for this game, then pitch him again on regular rest 8/24 against Boston. Then the Sox could pick their poison between Freddy and Jose for the next game rather than having to throw them both in Fenway. Yep, though today could be Jose's last stand. I believe Huddy is going today for Charlotte, and it could be his final audition.

QUOTE (knightni @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 06:53 PM) Alexei just f***ed away 2 runs there. Dumbass play... What happened? -
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 04:29 PM) Maybe Retherford turns into our version of Howie Kendrick. Howie wasn't a very highly touted amateur but all he did in the minors was hit and hit and hit until he became widely considered an elite prospect. Retherford is clearly not at the level Kendrick is, but hopefully he turns into one of those guys that just hits at an elite level. Quite frankly, the jury is still out on both Nix and Getz. Mike Fontenot looked great last year, and the Cubs made numerous decisions based on expectations of his continued performance. Now, he blows, and they're screwed.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 02:38 PM) Konerko 3rd? That's a lot of pop ups down the stretch with men on base. And even more times that Hawk will say "he just missed it".

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 01:40 PM) Hopefully Verlander, Jackson and Porcello get dead arms from Leyland's overuse. Porcello is going to reach an innings limit soon, no? -
QUOTE (SAVVY18 @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 10:18 AM) A.J. f***ing Pierzynski. Love this one. I'm sure AJ would embrace it.

QUOTE (elmo9246 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 01:16 PM) As for signing a starting pitcher, I say we go into spring training looking to give Hudson a shot, and if not, just try to fill the spot internally. With the starting four that we're looking at we have a little room to try and find a servicable fifth starter. I think he'll get more than a shot. Given his meteoric rise this season, I'll be surprised if Huddy's not the 5th starter next April. I'll also be surprised if he's not a very good one. KW will have a backup plan, but I don't think he's viewing the 5th starter as something he'll be spending on this offseason. Except, perhaps, for the signing of a Cuban pitcher.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 10:09 AM) Do they really? Jackson maybe, he had some solid games down the stretch last year, but isn't he hurt? We're not talking about forcing out guys who have been winning super bowls here This whole Favre saga underscores why the Vikings should have been the team that traded for Cutler.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 18, 2009 -> 10:03 AM) as long as this isn't one of those wrist injuries that can derail a career, this is actually somewhat comforting. By this I mean I'm kind of relieved to see there's something physically wrong with him to help explain the slump instead of a developmental step back. Hopefully this is something that rest and treatment can 100% fix. At this point there's zero need to rush him back and play him in the AFL or winter leagues Totally agreed. This makes me worry much less about his lousy 2nd half, and I'll hold off on the BA/Sweeney statitical comparisons. I wouldn't be surprised if he had been less than perfectly honest with the trainers, seeing that Beckham had made it so quickly, and no doubt dying to play with his older bro.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Aug 17, 2009 -> 10:11 PM) If we were to come out of this with Aroldis Chapman you’d never hear me speak the name Morgado again. I'll settle for Noel Arguelles.
