QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 04:50 AM) And then you calmly explain to him that this game is a business, that they had interest in Jordan before they did you, and that the player they acquired is going to make the major league team that much better. If John has that much a megaboner for playing with his brother, then the Sox can get great value for him in a deal come the 2011-12 offseason. Maybe, just maybe, you trade both Danks' for a guy like Haren. D1 has already turned down a guarantee of financial security from the Sox when he refused the offseason offer. Not saying that I'm crazy about such a deal, but you never know. I think KW will make a play for Duchscherer around Aug. 10th, depending on how things look - with Justin's health and our quality of play.

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 10:48 AM) Well I'm gonna say it, because it's true. It was a low risk move that had potential to pay off for us. And for a fifth starter, we could have had worse. Exactly. Just compare it to the money that Epstein is paying Smoltz - 5 to 10 times as much, depending on the incentives he meets - for much greater suckage. Brad Penny too, for that matter. Yet the world still bends over to lick Theo's butt crack. Don't get me wrong, he's a great GM, but so many on here seem to want to believe that KW is the only one who ever makes a mistake, which I'm not even sure that Fatolo is.

Brian Anderson traded to Red Sox for Mark Kotsay

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 02:16 PM) Seth Smith plays for the Rockies. And he has quite a nice bat. Not much in the field, though. -

QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 01:34 PM) Glad this is over. Good luck BA This is a great day for Soxtalk. A much-needed enema. -

QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Jul 28, 2009 -> 01:19 PM) If Fields is the next one to guy (which might be the case now) that means we would've unloaded 3 of our draft pick busts in a span of 2 months. I'll drive McCulloch to the airport personally. -
I'm hoping that's just a bad pic of young Trayce on FutureSox. I seem to remember his Pop being a handsome dude. Gotta love the potential outfield improvement in the coming years with D2, Mitchell and now Thompson aboard.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) I would not bring Jenks back. Crawford's an interesting guy, but if you do get him he goes to CF. Another guy who probably will be available is Dunn. Last year of contract @ 12M. He'll cost less in a trade than Crawford and if he signs an extension he'll give you Thome-like production for the next 3-4 years. He could also slide over to 1B when Konerko leaves. 2. Ramirez SS 3. Beckham 3B 4. Quentin LF 5. Dunn DH 6 Konerko 1B 7 AJP C Cost $58M minus prospects for Dunn. I want Dunn in the worst way, as long as he never steps foot in the outfield again.

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 10:27 AM) I still believe KW is going to bring over a starting pitcher. It won't be Halladay. It may not even be Haren. But I do believe he'll bring someone over that will bolster our rotation. I could also see him adding depth to the pen. But i really don't see him adding an offensive piece. While it's unlikely, IMO, that we'll get another elite starter by the deadline, I think there's a decent chance we make a play for Justin Duchscherer when he comes off the DL in August. Apparently, he'll be going immediately onto the trading block, and KW has obviously been able to work with Beane on numerous occasions. I'm not sure how the waiver claim rights that exist after 7/31 will affect such a move, but I understand that it may not necessarily be a huge hindrance.

QUOTE (Jeremy @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 11:52 PM) Losing a tick on his fastball here and there is less of a concern for Mark than other pitchers but anyone can injure his shoulder one day and see his career end in the blink of an eye. Just look at the article that Parque, who wasn't a hard thrower himself, wrote: he felt something suddenly snap in his shoulder when he was throwing a pitch in the playoffs and then after that he could never hit 80 again or get the same life on his pitches again. Buehrle's motion just seems so effortless in comparison to others. God only knows if he'll want to keep going long enough to accrue HOF numbers. Thing is, if he were traded to the Redbirds at some point, or signs with them after a contract expiration, he might feel more comfortable with his family situation and pitch longer. Not an ideal scenario, obviously, but I for one, will remain a big fan of his in another uniform. No worries about him winding up with an AL or Central division foe. I'm just hoping for a few more years on the South side after the current deal ends.

QUOTE (WCSox @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 02:25 PM) Mark's career is on track to be a lot like David Cone's (minus the multiple championships). So it'll be interesting to see how the HOF voters treat Conie. Thing is, though, Buehrle's performance is less stuff-dependent than almost anyone else. He can have Moyer-like longevity if thats what he wants to do. Most pitchers "lose it" at some point. (witness Smoltz 2009) Buehrle will quite possibly be an exception to that rule.

How much longer will Guillen stay with Jenks?

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 06:24 PM) On the Score this morning they were talking about how the Tony Pena/Brandon Allen deal wasn't much more thAn a gesture of goodwill towards the DBacks to keep the relationship fresh between the two teams. They referenced the giving away of Tadahito Iguchi to the Phillies as a gesture Of goodwill to make up for our fleecing of the Phillies in the Gavin Floyd/Freddy Garcia trade. Well, we'll see. Pena had a heckuva 2007 season. Maybe he can be salvaged. -

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 06:08 PM) There you go. Just proves the quality of that trade, huh. I think the Pena deal is a CCFH special. I'm going to withhold judgement on him until next April. -
QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 05:33 PM) Fathom's mentioned it, if the Sox lose tomorrow they have to seriously consider becoming sellers with MIN, NYY, and BOS coming up. I don't think you make those decisions based on schedule.

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 05:27 PM) The Twins didn't hit the ball hard against us in previous years as well. Same result. Well, since you bring up the hated Twinks, I can't remember a team reminding me so much of the Twins as the lucky-ass Tigers did today.

QUOTE (DanksFan @ Jul 25, 2009 -> 05:06 PM) there is no such thing as momentum for our sox Sure seems that way. Detroit really sucks, but they ARE lucky. The ESPN radio announcer said that both Thames and Granderson broke their bats on their hits.

QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 07:46 PM) Hudson inching closer to Minor League POY status. Having a very similar rise and season to Jon Rauch years ago. Now why would you kill my Huddy buzz by comparing his season to Rauch? Let's find a more pleasant comparison. Black Jack, or somebody else with a better MLB pedigree must have had a similar rise through our system. Just funnin' ya, anyway.

The 20 game thing will not be as important in the 5 man rotation era. It's a lot harder now, and that will be acknowledged.

QUOTE (YASNY @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 01:40 PM) LH hitting 3B? You don't find many Robin Venturas out there. Chone is a SH, that would do as well.

Rays vs Sox (Kazmir vs Buehrle) 1:05CDT CSN

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 01:16 PM) Alexei actually is having a pretty nice year all of a sudden That BB he took yesterday made my eyes well up w/ pride His patience is improving markedly. Will he regress patience-wise next year if he's moved down to 6th or 7th and thinks of himself more as a run-producer? I don't want that, obviously, but if Bacon is the .310BA, .375OBP player I think he is, it'll be hard to keep him from the 2 hole. Heck, he's a run producer now. I can see him getting 90RBI still this year, which is phenomenal from the 2 hole and reminiscent of Ventura's best days. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 01:14 PM) Way to get it started Pods!!!! Now just don't ask Alexei to bunt. Just tell him to go to the right side. I actually wouldn't mind playing for 1 run here. MB's not going to need that much. -
QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 23, 2009 -> 01:03 PM) What the hell? Who's apologizing for BA? Even he isn't apologizing for himself. God damn do I hate any topic having to do with Anderson and this is exactly why. You're kidding right? There's already several comments on here clearly stating or directly implying that Ozzie screwed him up. I'm done with it FOREVER. Just trade him and make it go away.
