QUOTE (everafan @ Jul 8, 2009 -> 08:39 AM) I think we are all missing the obvious reason for Paulie's resurgence - he can relax now that Brandon Allen is no longer breathing down his neck. Good to know that the thumb's not much of an issue, apparently.

I want him to pitch forever, of course, but I'd REALLY like it if he became the Sox all time leader in wins. I think Ted Lyons had 260. If he wins 300 in a Cardinal uni, or retires beforehand, I won't be crushed. I'd like for him to hold virtually every pitching record in Sox history, though. Time for Jerry to pony up the private jet in the next deal, so he can head off to StL for a day or two between starts several times a season.

The reason that the Jays would SAY they're entertaining offers from the Yanks/BoSox is to scare everyone else into upping their bids. It's posturing. I'd be shocked if Roy stays in the AL East, if he does get traded.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 11:19 AM) How old was Pedro when his stuff took a nose dive...particularly his fastball? Pedro was a power pitcher who weighed 175 pounds soaking wet. Same reason I wouldn't sign Lincecum to any 8 year deals. Roy is a horse. Not much of a comparison.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 10:47 AM) Which one of those 5 goes to the bullpen? I love Jose and Richard as the long men in a playoff scenario. NOBODY, not the BoSox, Dodgers, or anyone else matches up with Roy, MB, Gavin and JohnnyDank. I'm thinking that Flowers (after the drafting of Phegley) and Poreda could be the key pieces in any deal made, and we keep Richard. Kenny needs to convince Riccardi that middle infielders are relatively easy to find, whereas catching prospects like Flowers are truly uncommon.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 7, 2009 -> 10:37 AM) Adding Rolen and Halladay would easily make us favorites in the central. Move Slayer to 2B, we got the return of Q. Look at that lineup: 1. Pods, CF 2. Ramirez, SS 3. Dye, RF 4. Thome, DH 5. Konerko, 1B 6. Rolen, 3B 7. Quentin, LF 8. Pierzynski, C 9. Beckham, 2B Plus, we'd have one of Halladay, Buehrle, Danks, Floyd, or Contreras on the mound. Awesomeness. The Central, hell, that's a World Series lineup and rotation.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 3, 2009 -> 10:39 AM) I really dislike how they do the inter league schedules... what was up with us traveling to Pittsburgh back to back years? The only interleague team you should face back to back years are your interleague rivals. I also feel the American League needs 2 more teams added to make things more even. Florida's new stadium is a few years away isn't it? That kind of sucks, don't want to take a trip for a football stadium. See you in DC. Tickets will be cheap and readily available.

QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 09:11 PM) I'm defiantly in favor of grooming Nix for this role, or maybe he finally puts all those tools together and takes second from Getz. Maybe if Nix can establish himself as a ML regular we can wind up packaging Getz and Fields for some needs at the ASB or in the off season. Well, since you mention it, I'm thinking that the idea of trading Getz and/or Fields isn't so crazy, but we really don't know how much of a burden Nix can handle yet, do we? I'm optimistic though. Since the latest news on Quentin is also optimistic, I would really like to see the team acquire a steady defender and hitter at 3B whose contract will expire at about the time Dayan is ready, the move allowing Beckham to move to 2B permanently. Whose team, while competitive, has little chance of competing in a brutal division. I'm thinking I want Scott Rolen in a Sox uni, a steady hand alongside Alexei on the left side, and a steady bat. Could be workable.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 08:50 PM) Unless Nix "Wally Pipp's" Ramirez...stranger things have happened in baseball. But we obviously can use Alexei's bat somewhere in that line-up....SS/2B/CF. I actually love the way Nix is being used, along with the experiment in LF. It seems they're grooming him for a super-utility role, which I would love to see. A Mackowiak with talent.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 08:15 PM) That's a fair argument. Good point. We may need Bobby before it's over. This is a complete game shutout. Book it. No worries about a tired bullpen this year. Things are shaping up nicely. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 08:10 PM) Buehrle! He's looked fantastic night. Clearly doesn't have all of his stuff either. How many guys could mow a lineup down so easily and efficiently with one strikeout in eight innings? This is a truly unique player we're watching here fellas. Nobody quite like him. -
QUOTE (kane0730 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 05:52 PM) This is real good news. Give him 2 days off, and really, he probably needs it. I can't remember the last "off" day he's had. Hell yeah! That's what I wanted to hear. A few days is OK. He'll come back smokin'! I was worried it was real bad.

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 06:58 PM) Anything new with him? He's expected back right after ASB. He's been increasing his workouts and will be starting minor league rehab soon. -
QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 09:42 PM) He's been using it since Beckham left, he had another song by The Outfield before that. The Outfield had another song?? Wasn't aware.

Any update on his condition?

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 05:33 PM) While it is looking more and more like that list is fake, I doubt it would surprise anyone if that list is indeed true or many of the players on that list are on the real one. EDIT: Yeah, the fact that Burnitz is on the list twice, that pretty much indicates that whoever came up with it got lazy towards the end and this is fake. If you noticed, the names are grouped by teams. And in 2003, Burnitz played for the Dodgers and Mets, and he's grouped with both teams. Looks like whoever came up with it knows their stuff and isn't an idiot, but he came up with this list by selecting possible PED users by looking at every team's rosters in 2003. Good catch, Bear!

QUOTE (hogan873 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 10:36 AM) Encouraging for sure. Obviously Danks hasn't gotten great run support. Fortunately, he's tough enough to deal with it.

The best Cuban pitching prospect, Aroldis Chapman, defected
ILMOU replied to Cubano's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 2, 2009 -> 10:53 AM) His delivery looks so...awkward. It doesn't look fluid. CCFH The guy has a huge and still "projectable" frame, which, IMO, makes him less an injury risk, long-term, than a guy like Strasburg. -

I want this guy in the Sox' system, bad. It's hard to imagine that he wouldn't have been the 2nd or 3rd best pitching prospect after Strasburg, if he'd been in the draft. Time to utilize that payroll flexibility you've maneuvered towards so well Kenny! -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 1, 2009 -> 08:54 PM) Its bad, but anymore because of the complete lack of control and accountability in MLB, I just assume all of these top guys are guilty until proven innocent, Pujols included. The only thing that will come close to really cleaning up the game, is the effin' MLBPA conceding to year round urine AND BLOOD testing in the next CBA, with samples frozen for eternity. That way, HGH users know they'll be caught eventually, because a blood test is near, and other substances will also be preserved in the blood as the tests are developed. A cheater will still make his money while the testing catches up to the PED's, but they'll know that their legacy will be completely tarnished eventually. That's as good a deterrent as we're ever going to get. Will it happen? Probably not, with the union still so powerful, but the continuing media onslaught of heroes being revealed as cheaters, makes it a possibility.
