  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 09:30 PM) But what's the market for an all bat, no position player? That's my concern. That would immediately eliminate the NL. And the DH only days seem to be coming to an end (there's obviously some exceptions). Matt Holliday plays in the NL. If you're bat's good enough, it's not an issue. I wouldn't rule out 1B in the long-range plan for Dayan either.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 3, 2011 -> 02:51 PM) If this team wins 75 games this year, they will not be all-in for 2012. If this team wins 95 games this year, they will certainly be all-in for 2012. In-between that...depends on how the year goes. This, certainly. Personally, I like the way the money sets up for 2012. Assuming Buehrle is retired or a Cardinal in 2012, we gain 22 mill while losing he and Edwin, replacing one of them with Sale, making peanuts. There's also a chance for significant additional significant savings if Q becomes expendable as Dayan develops. This should balance the contract/arb escalations, and allow for a FA pitcher, if none is fortchcoming in trade, but yeah, a helluva lot will depend on the performance.
  3. QUOTE (soxfan420 @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 01:26 AM) seems like he might be a fit for outfield depth? opinions Really, REALLY glad we didn't trade for him when his value was sky-high a couple years ago, as I and others had suggested. We have a number of plodders in our lineup still, and if we don't make Lilli our 25th man, a guy who can also be another (besides 44y.o. Omar) late-inning pinch runner will be an asset.
  4. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 08:18 PM) Your half-hearted, gutless trolling is pathetic. You came here with the name WhiteSux and started out like you wanted to talk s*** on your way to a banning, but then you got cold feet and tried to start a baseball conversation. Now it's this little slappy s***. Either grow a set and throw a punch like a real troll or change your retarded name and talk baseball. Give 'em hell, KHP!!!
  5. QUOTE (Hawkfan @ Jan 6, 2011 -> 09:36 AM) I've heard rumors that alexei will be batting second this year. It seems strange to me considering he is more of a pull hitter, and strikes out a lot. Am I wrong? This part is actually untrue, but is a common misconception. Lexi is anything but "selective", but his contact skills are very good and his strikeout totals are average, not particularly good or bad. Looking at his Sox career so far, he has been slightly more selective as a two hitter (more walks, higher obp) and his hit for more power lower in the order. This may be as much a result of him being told to take certain pitches to allow stealing, more sac bunting, etc., while in the two hole, as it was any change in mindset or approach - not too certain. I think I like him in the 7 hole more, but it's close for me.
  6. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Dec 12, 2010 -> 06:39 PM) Deron Williams is from Texas, the best player in Illinois history. On the current team Mike Davis is from somewhere on the west coast I think and he is very important to the team's success as well. Can't solely rely on instate guys only. Corrected for accuracy. And I'm an alum. Instate guys should always be the priority in such a talent-rich state, but going outside occasionally is good too.
  7. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 12:44 AM) Honestly, I think we trade him. With Dunn and Konerko, it likely means the next 3 years will be occupied at 1B/DH. In those 3 years, it is entirely possible to groom a 1B prospect via draft or trade. As much as I like Viciedo, I think he needs to be traded for a legit OF. I wonder if the Cardinals could be a match with Pujols and Berkman likely off the books after this year. And if the Cards resign Pujols, they could always trade Dayan and upgrade themselves as well. And I think we all know what OF the Cardinals have that Kenny/Sox fans would like to see. The cards already have the worst OF defense ever with Barkman/Holliday manning the corners. I don't see Rasmus being moved now.
  8. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 01:59 AM) Well, Boras did recently say he has talked to Crede na Joe is ready to go in 2011 and wants to play. He is suppose to be healthy too. With that said we already have a Joe Crede on the team and his name is Brent Morel, just whole lotta younger! I'm just SHOCKED that his agent would say he's "ready to go". Or maybe, I'm just not good at detecting your sarcasm.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 08:08 AM) Thank God Dunn signed before Werth. This.
  10. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 01:18 PM) I agree with this lineup to start the year, and if Lexi and Bacon are both having good years, I'd like to see Lexi at 2 and GB at 3 eventually. Actually the more I think about it, eventually I'd like to have Rios in the two hole with Becks 3 and Lexi at 6 or 7. If Rios is a bad bunter, all the better, so maybe then Ozzie just lets Juan steal, which he should anyway.
  11. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 09:29 AM) I don't want to see Teahen on the team at all. The fans will grow to hate him, not because of the player he is but because of the way Ozzie will over use and abuse him ala Duane Wise, Mark Kotsay, Mackowiak, Erstad, Timo, etc. Like all other GMs, KW has to put together a bench but he also has the added burden of "Ozzie proofing" the roster. Please KW, get rid of Teahen before his presence on Ozzie's squad comes back to bite us. This is funny, and unfortunately rather truthful.
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 09:32 AM) Yeah, I'd want Rios batting 6th if possible. Here would be my ideal lineup (assuming Pierre has to bat leadoff): 1. Pierre 2. Beckham 3. Dunn 4. Konerko 5. Quentin 6. Rios 7. Ramirez 8. Pierzynski 9. Morel I think that's a really strong lineup. Quentin's ability to hit righties also brings some balance in the middle. With Guillen as our manager though, I'd swap Beckham and Ramirez. I hate taking the bat out of Beckham's hands. I agree with this lineup to start the year, and if Lexi and Bacon are both having good years, I'd like to see Lexi at 2 and GB at 3 eventually.
  13. QUOTE (Real @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 09:15 AM) Dunn should most certainly hit 3rd IMO L, R, L, R, R, R, L, R, R Don't mind Donkey in the 3 hole at all, but I don't want AJP batting as high as 7th...ever...again. Dude needs to hit 8th or 9th only, unless he proves he can actually still hit something.
  14. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 09:15 AM) I think Dunn and Paulie should bat 3rd and 4th, but I'm pretty sure Guillen will want Rios batting 3rd again next season. This is what I'm worried about as well. Love Rios, but he's not a consistent enough run producer to be in the 3 hole.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 08:33 AM) Bonds vs KRod in the World Series Jack Clark vs. Tom Niedenfeur in 1985 NL playoffs.
  16. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Nov 3, 2010 -> 07:16 PM) hurt. Blah...gimme Flowers for 400k if this is the case. Pains me to say it but AJ might be the biggest blackhole on the team now. When I read this the first time, I seriously thought you were making a prediction on his strikeout total. I'm with you, though. Flowers will probably be a worse blackhole, at least early on, but I can live with that, I think.
  17. QUOTE (Butter Parque @ Sep 16, 2010 -> 05:31 PM) If Bill Beane had Reinsdorf as an owner with a bigger payroll, we would be a perennial threat for a pennant more often than not. Beane constantly develops and trades for good young players. He doesn't have the money at his disposal to make a splash or even re-sign his own. Every GM has done some really dumb things and KW is no exception. Overall, he's still been pretty good. One thing I can tell you with certainty - KW has never traded away a player half as good as Carlos Gonzalez. The prospects Beane got from the Cards for Holliday may be good, but CarGo will be a top 5-10 player in the game, if he isn't already. Billy will deservedly have nightmares for the next decade about that one.
  18. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Sep 13, 2010 -> 03:21 PM) Man oh man talk about heart-break. I still can't believe Dybzinksi got thrown out like that with the winning/lead run on its way home. Britt Burns pitched one of the most courageous games I have ever seen...by that point I think his hip was already on the downside and his days of taking a start every 5th were gone, but that guy was absolutely masterful in that game against a great Orioles team. LaRussa had to leave Britt in...Sox had a very marginal pen that year. The Landrum shot in the LF upper deck still haunts me...Yea, Im glad we got the series in 2005, but I loved that 1983 team. Still do...had my favorite player of all time on it (Fisk) and a SICK rotation. Hoyt going in game 5 against Scott McGregor would have completely favored the White Sox. I was at that game with my Dad, sitting in the right field upper deck. One of those days that really cemented my White Sox fanhood, even though it ended badly. Britt Burns was great that day. A darn shame.
  19. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 10:29 PM) OMG the Tigers suck so bad! They took the lead in the top of the 11th inning. Then in the bottom of the 11th it is 1st and 2nd with 0 outs. Joe Mauer strikes out. 1 out. Then it's a DP ball to Inge. He bobbles the ball, tries to throw to 2nd, and it's a bad throw, the runners are all safe. So now it's bases loaded with 1 out. Next batter hits a perfect DP ball to 2B. Rhymes gets the ball, tries to go to 2B, but Santiago is standing on the base, blocking him. So he runs into Santiago, they fall down, and he barely gets the out at 2B, but the tying run scores. Blown save, and 9-9. Then the next batter hits a grounder to 2B and he makes the out thank god. Tigers are so terrrible. 2 perfect DP balls that could have ended the game, and they messed up BOTH of them. Now it's the top of the 12th. f***ING s***HEADS! Tigers take lead again in 12th. Will they blow it again?
  20. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Aug 28, 2010 -> 09:00 AM) Any update on Threets? X-rays negative. MRI on elbow today.
  21. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Aug 27, 2010 -> 07:01 PM) Stealing at will on Garcia. Freddy can't hold anyone.
  22. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 10:45 AM) He already basically has 20 homer power (17 over 162 games). I could see him getting to 25, but not much above. I could easily see him hitting for 55 doubles some year soon, though. Agreed. If he can produce close to 70 XBH's annually starting next season, I figure he'll find his way into an RBI slot.
  23. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 09:11 AM) Is it finally safe to say this kid is a fixture/starter for the next 4+ seasons at the ML level for our Sox, barring injury? No doubt in my mind. Sophomore slumps are common - Troy Tulowitski, Geovany Soto, Josh Hamilton (kind of) - just to name a few recent examples of players whose early impressions turned out to be accurate, eventually. The fact that Gordon's seemingly turned it around already tells me he's primed for a BIG year in '11. Hopefully, he'll be in the two hole. Eventually, I can see him in the 3 hole, if he develops 20+ homer power (shouldn't be a stretch in our park).
  24. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 04:04 PM) Watch the Sox on WGN on Saturday night and TBS Sunday game of the Week the next day Then Monday on WGN again @ Cleveland - a rare three days in a row for us out-of-towners. Sweet.
