  1. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 02:09 PM) Like 2 days ago. That's what I was referring to.
  2. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 10:02 AM) Teahen isn't blocking Viciedo, or at least he shouldn't be. This. But if he's on the roster, somebody else isn't, and he's redundant as hell with Morel needing to play everyday. But no way KW sells THIS low on Teahen. I'd be pleasantly surprised, but I think it only happens as part of a larger deal. We're all-in, not ALL-IN!!!
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 01:50 PM) Because sneaking a fastball by Paul Konerko is like sneaking a sunrise past a rooster. Paulie flat out rocks, and he's as good as he's ever been. Statue-worthy.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 01:48 PM) Is Dunn protection right now? I could swear teams were pitching around Brent Lillibridge to go after Dunn. Yep. When's the last time the Elf walked three times in a game, at any level?
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 01:19 PM) Two straight off-days for Dunn. Ya gotta love the protection Ozzie likes to give his best hitter, Paulie. First AJ, now Rios. Though, admittedly, he lacks options, and we can't complain with the overall performance of our 1-4 lately. AJP has looked slightly less helpless in RBI situations this year, which is a pleasant surprise, but why would Paulie get ANYthing to hit tonight?
  6. QUOTE (kapzk @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 12:34 PM) And here is Matt Capps blowing the lead with 2 outs in the 9th and serves up a homerun. Yep. But crappy Indian defense trying to give it back in the 10th. 3-2 Twins, currently. Seriously, the Tribe look bad. I'm rooting harder against Detroit, who IS more of a force with Cabrera surrounded with quality and/or improving bats. That's the only team we'll be chasing soon.
  7. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 01:04 AM) Viciedo went 3/5, 2B, 2 RBI. God I wish he gets called up when Peavy goes on the DL. He's the youngest guy in the IL with the numbers that he has. He's clearly one of the top hitting prospects in baseball right now, for anyone who's paying attention. OPS ~1000 since May 1. I gotta believe we can work him in somewhat currently, but Teahen's presence is the ultimate, and most frustrating obstacle. He's going to make fools out of the experts that had him so low on prospect lists.
  8. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 07:18 AM) His tweet was pathetic. Keep your mouth shut, Ozzie. He tweets that he is in a s***ty mood on a night that we beat Felix and beat Pineda the night before. If he wants to be upset, fine, but he knew people would know exactly what he was referring to since he tweeted he was pissed on a night we beat the reigning Cy Young winner. He's an attention whore. Well, there is your attention, Ozzie. Grow the hell up, OG's. Corrected for inclusiveness. The Oney tweet is bad, and though he's no longer an employee, the public perception is of a closeness to the organization, and JR, KW can't be thrilled.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 8, 2011 -> 08:12 AM) I'd also add that 3b is a position that has clearly changed since the end of the steroid era. Back in 2001, the Average OPS of 3b throughout baseball was .774 and only 6 teams had a below .700 OPS from their 3b spot. In most of the next few years, the 3b OPS hovered around .750 for the league. This year, the average league-wide OPS from 3b is .677 so far, and 15 teams have a 3b OPS below .700. Good info, and not really all that surprising with what we're seeing generally. Based on his minor league career, I believe that he'll show a bit more pop than he has, but nothing crazy. Probably quite a few more doubles and not so many more HR's. His best chance to become a plus offensive player, IMO, is with a +300BA and at least a little more patience, perhaps producing a 350OBP and becoming a candidate for the 2 hole down the road. Don't know what to expect from Gordon anymore, but at one time I envisioned enough power to make Morel's power, or lack thereof, insignificant.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 7, 2011 -> 03:29 PM) True. I only harp on the loss column when people say we are six out. Why do people bring that up as well if it's so early? You just don't get it. We ARE 6 out. That's what IS important. Loss column and win column mean nothing right now.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jun 6, 2011 -> 10:01 PM) Still eight back in the loss column, which is only picking up four games in that total in this whole stretch. Still anemic against teams in our division. I love the Sox always and am hopeful, but team still gets a D for the season performance thus far. Lot of problems on this team. Like you said the worst problem inability to get up for an beat teams in the Central, shaky bullpen aside from Sergio and awful production from the highest pad players. GO SOX! To look at the loss column at this point in the season is RIDICULOUS. More important is that the Tribe has played 4 less games than we have , and will likely lose two of those. If you've actually watched the Indians play, you couldn't possibly be worried. Their pitching is a mirage. We're chasing the Tigers - Cleveland will be irrelevant soon.

    6/5 Games

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 02:46 PM) Kuhn gets on base 4 more times. Move him up. Three more hits and an RBI for Tank.
  13. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jun 4, 2011 -> 10:10 PM) If Adam Dunn hit .280 for the rest of the year and averaged 6 homers a month from here until the end of the season, his line ends up somewhere along the lines of .240/.380/.470/.850 with about 30 homers. His 162 game average is .248/.379/.515/.893 and 39 homers. He hit .288 in the first half of last season - 88 games - and he was at .281 in game 98 of last year, so there is some ability to hit for average there, even if it takes a bit of luck. Also, during the only point in his career where the team he was on was contending whatsoever, 2008 with the Diamondbacks, he put up .243/.417/.472/.889 during part of August and September and was on about a 32 homer pace. He's hit well when his team has been in it before. Again, I am not worried about him at all. Really? Some kind of new super-Prozac must be available.
  14. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 5, 2011 -> 09:35 AM) Rios defense is slipping as well. He has looked about average out there and made some bad plays. Haven't checked his UZR recently, but the eye test tells me this as well. Perhaps he's taking some of his frustration from the plate out into the field. IIRC, and maybe I'm thinking of another player, but didn't Rios have a problem with his vision some time ago. It looks to me like he still does. His pitch selection is horrible - how many center-cut first-pitch cookies does this guy take per game? And what else could he possibly be looking for? Doesn't seem to recognize anything. He also seems rather "squinty". Just an observation, maybe it's nothing.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 4, 2011 -> 11:11 AM) UZR thinks that Youkilis has been slightly below average so far this year and I think most red sox viewers seem to agree, they miss having Beltre out there defensively...but I think their biggest concern is actually keeping Youkilis healthy. They can't exactly move him back to 1b now, and they still have Ortiz at DH for this season. Very good point. BoSox are easily best team in AL on paper, IMO, but there's a few key guys, Youk and Beckett among them, who stand a good chance of not being there for them at 100% come playoff time, and that could be their Achilles. I've always been in the camp of wanting to give our plan A for 3B coming into this season enough of a chance to show whether he can or can't perform at this level. His history in the minors , as most of us know, was to struggle, often mightily, after being promoted to the next level, before really figuring it out and delivering a consistent, professional, if not spectacular performance. I also think Omar will be better if he plays less. I love a strong defensive infield behind a deep pitching staff, which is what we may have brewing if Thornton isn't ruined.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 3, 2011 -> 02:42 PM) BNightengale Bob Nightengale #mlb #Marlins Logan Morrison fires back on MLB Network Radio on SiriusXM, calling #Giants GM Brian Sabean unprofessional for comments. Sabean deserves several lashings for his stupidity on this situation.
  17. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 3, 2011 -> 02:39 PM) For awhile there I didn't know what team KW was most fascinated with: The Royals or the DBacks. Yes. I'm waiting for the final de-Royalling. At least we got Q from the D'bags.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 3, 2011 -> 02:05 PM) If Viciedo stays down for most of the year, it could buy us another arbitration year for him. I think he's down there until someone gets sold off. Or until rosters expand. God, I hope you're wrong. Teahen's presence on the roster may be the main thing keeping Dayan from helping us. KW has thrown away so much cash recently, that a swallowing of Teahen's horrific deal seems bigger than it would otherwise. Sad.
  19. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 3, 2011 -> 02:01 PM) And how will looking completely lost vs a lefty help? It's gotten past the point of letting him play through the slump, plain and simple. We need to win ball games now, and until he fixes his approach and starts hitting the ball, he can't be playing everyday, and especially not vs lefties. I'm not saying outright bench, but no more blind faith that he will snap out of it eventually. Agreed completely, Bear. We've got too much invested in the Mule to give up on him, but we need to start this homestand with the guys who give us the best chance to win against a lefty tonight. There's also the "light a fire under his fat a**" factor, that I can only see as a positive. And normally, I'm a coddler/power-of- positive-thinking kinda guy.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 3, 2011 -> 12:46 PM) http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/qa-mark-buehrle/ Awesome. I've long believed that his "don't think too much" approach has had a positive effect on our staff. Especially for guys like Floyd and Garland. Possibly Humber currently.
  21. Viciedo not in Charlotte's lineup tonight. Don't know if he's in the dugout. I can dream.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 12:55 PM) Dallas cleared waivers and is now back in Charlotte. What a relief.
  23. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 08:18 AM) He remains the key part of that trade. We need to continue infusing the roster with cost-controlled players and we don't have many prospects that could be ready in the next year or two. Viciedo will be in a corner spot next year, which will help a lot. If Flowers could take Castro's role next and then the starting spot in 2013, that would be huge for our long-term success. Having Beckham, Morel, Viciedo, and Flowers in the everyday lineup would give us a nice set of cost-controlled players to supplement some of the bigger contracts we'll still have on the books. Well, the trade of Javy never seemed that bad to me regardless, because the guy is a looooser, still making a lot of money to disappoint another team. Worst pitcher I've ever seen for consistently blowing leads - no lead was ever big enough. I was glad to get him off the team. The trade to acquire him (not that CYoung does a lot for me), was the bigger mistake, IMO. There's been a lot of talk about how much more we should have rec'd for him in trade, but for a lot of GM's, the bloom was off the Javy rose already.
  24. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 11:53 AM) I laughed. You know damn well the reason those were the most memorable to Frank because that was his way of saying "f*** you, KW!". No doubt about it. I also found that to be hilarious.
  25. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 2, 2011 -> 09:49 AM) And this team has quietly been winning more than it has been losing since it fell to what 11 games out and about 11 below .500 at the low water mark? I know that the 6 man rotation has mostly "worked" to this point, and it may have even been necessary with 20 consecutive games and unsureness about JFP's health, but the schedule has a LOT more off days over the final 104 games, and the starting pitchers will get nearly comparable rest as they've been getting during this 6 man experiment, if we return to a 5-man. Jackson still seems like the logical choice to me because of what he could bring to a pen that needs another power RHP anyway. And I'm not worried about reducing Edwin's trade-value (though I agree with about 99.9% of what Fathom says otherwise), and I'm not worried about p***ing off Bora$$, who hates us anyway. Edwin is a known commodity, and his value isn't going to change a whole lot between now and the end of the season. If anything, it might bring his arb number down, allowing us to offer it and secure a needed draft pick. We're not necessarily IN it currently, but we're certainly NOT OUT of it either, IMO, and the trade value of a guy we shouldn't be trading anyway, shouldn't be the overriding concern. The other aspect of the 6-man that I truly don't like, is that it makes it nearly impossible to work some much-needed offense (Viciedo) into the lineup. Just not enough roster spots, when you're carrying 13 pitchers. No reason why the TANK shouldn't be starting 2-4 days per week, and pinch hitting for the Mule in EVERY late and close situation where the opposition brings in a lefty to face him. There's been 3 or 4 of those situations in the past week alone.
