  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 07:17 PM) I can throw his contract in too. If the can wait until perhaps august or sept, that might still buy them another year before he becomes a free agent. But yeah, that's not why. It's because of Pierre. Yes, but don't you think Teahen's presence is also a major issue? He's even more redundant than Juan if DV is on the 25 man. Of course, it's almost moot, 'cause Teahen is nearly as unmovable as Rios or Dunn. If Teahen were movable in any way, letting JP stay on the roster, "sensitivity issues" would be irrelevant.
  2. QUOTE (Real @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 07:00 PM) Sox have stated all along that Viciedo will be called up only to play fulltime Right now we don't have a spot for him He can't play 3rd We have some body in LF, and RF We already have a DH We already have a 1B Corrected. Everyday doesn't have to mean EVERYday. NO reason he can't play 5 out of 6 days.
  3. QUOTE (lord chas @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 06:59 PM) can anyone enlighten me why viciedo is not being called up? is it to do with options or his contract? Stupidity, loyalty, inability to read box scores. Take your pick.
  4. Charlotte http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/gameday...syraaa_chraaa_1 Tank 3-3, HR, 2 2B, 2 RBI. All hits oppo B'Ham http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/gameday...biraax_hunaax_1 WS http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...wswafa_wilafa_1 Kanny http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...gboafx_kanafx_1 B'Ham, WS, and Kanny all getting shut down to this point.
  5. Tank now 3-3, another opposite field 2B. OPS since May 1 of about .1050. This is getting ridiculous. Put his butt on a plane to AZ after this inning. WTF?
  6. QUOTE (Real @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 05:45 PM) guess you missed where the sox have stated to certain people they have no intention of bringing up viciedo Saw that, but I wonder how much longer they can ignore the obvious. Tank 2-2 tonight, HR & 2B, 2RBI. Both hits to the opposite field BTW. This guy is a genuine stud. Every day he's not with the big club now is a wasted opportunity.
  7. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 04:33 PM) It's hard to tell what question he was answering but the answer did involve the phrase "Move somebody up." That's semi-encouraging. DV back in the Knight's lineup tonite, Peavy on the bump.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 02:24 PM) I think he's a mid .700's OPS 3b once he fully develops/adapts, and may cross .800 a couple times given the park he's playing in. Hope you're right. Anyway, Brent's in the right spot in the 9 hole, and there's about 50 other problems with the team that deserve more attention.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 02:09 PM) Now that we're suddenly back to 5 games below .500, "Planning on Contending" is becoming at best borderline. Well yes, we're stuck with some big contracts that can't be shed, but we all darn well know that KW won't be selling a "rebuilding year" in 2012. And we're only 4 under. BFD, I know.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 01:32 PM) The only good thing to say is that it's easier to find hitting than good starting pitching. The problem is that we have to replace Buehrle, Danks and Jackson somehow. God help Sale and Peavy. Next year's starting pitching is not a major concern, IMO. MB will be back (I give it an 80% chance), and Humber is cheap and under control. If we're planning on contending, I don't see Danks being moved until the middle of next season at the earliest, when we're not contending. Jackson, he gawn!
  11. QUOTE (Hollywood_AU @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 01:33 PM) Time for KW or JR to literally make an "all-in" move. This means: Fire Ozzie; DFA Pierre; Waive Rios; Fire Walker.....some combination of 1 or all of those things. Create an "OH SH*T" environment in the organization. Time to make guys feel uncomfortable. This is it! The Sox are statistically in a position to still win the division, but this team as-is probably has a 15% chance or less. Shake things up, ride it out, and see what happens. Put your money where your mouth is, and make a true ALL-IN move. That's my opinion. Totally agree with the bolded. When Ozzie said a month or so ago something along the lines of "If you fire Greg Walker, you might as well fire me", the way he said it revealed a much-too-high comfort level. He KNOWS he still has carte blanche with the old man from '05.
  12. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 01:30 PM) FIRE OZZIE!! And Greg Walker too while we're at it. (cue the defenders of blind loyalty) Beckham used to be able to hit center-cut fastballs in the low 90's. Wha' happened???
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 01:07 PM) And it's reason #1 he needs to go No doubt, but to this point Ozzie has gotten an absolute pass in this regard.
  14. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 01:42 AM) Thompson's walk rate this month is absurd for most anyone, but especially for a guy that had a mediocre one previously. Let's see this play out for an extended period before we assume this is part of his game. That said, I do love Trayce. Probably the best power in the system and he's a great athlete to go with it. I'm glad to hear there's some improvement, because otherwise Trayce's #'s are a virtual carbon copy of 2010.
  15. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 12:57 PM) I think i've finally jumped on board with firing Ozzie. The question that needs to be asked, IMO, is how many managers or coaches in any sport would catch so little heat or even survive being so consistently futile and impotent against a team's primary rival, for so long, as we've been against the Twins, regardless of who they pitch or hit? His attempts to motivate this team have completely backfired.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 16, 2011 -> 02:15 AM) Greg, sometimes I don't understand why you think it's your role to defend Ozzie or Bobby Jenks or Juan Pierre. Is everyone disappointed in Beckham and Rios and Dunn and Peavy? Of course, but realistically, we know we're pretty much stuck with all of those guys for the duration of their contracts. As someone else mentioned, players like Rios with all the talent in the world but none of the courage/fearlessness/drive/heart drive me nuts. If you put Juan Pierre's "head" in Rios, you'd have a superstar. Unfortunately, we're stuck with Juan's drive in a body that's been beaten up and abused for too many seasons....you could probably say the same thing about AJ. Maybe we'll see glimpses of the former player, but not on an extended basis. So because of his caught stealings, lack of arm, atrocious defense THIS year, lack of walks, lack of power, lack of ability to sacrifice bunt....what tool of the five does he still possess? Unless he's hitting at .300 or above, he's not bringing anything to the table. In his best incarnation at this point of his career, he's still in the bottom quartile of AL LFer's in terms of production. And then there are those frustrated he's getting so many AB's, that Ozzie keeps defending him (he's THE reason, basically, that Viciedo isn't up), that Lillibridge hasn't been given more opportunities when he's clearly outplaying Juan at 1/50th the salary. Add all these things up....Juan Pierre will be okay as a man, as a person, no matter how this year turns out. He's one of the good guys in baseball, hardest workers....it's almost because he represents everything that is good, that's standing in the way of his being benched or waived. If he was pouting like Swisher or isolating himself from the media and teammates like O-Cabrera, this wouldn't be so painful for everyone watching the soap opera from a distance. Great post, 'field.
  17. At least 56 will shut down the running game tomorrow, which was a big part of their success tonight.
  18. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 04:57 PM) Obviously you have seen the pattern Are you two living in a cave? There's been no shortage of disgust for Rios and Dunn. Beckham, granted, has gotten a bit of a pass, but he's young, we're not paying him anything, and most of us anticipate improvement. For many of us, Pierre is just the most fixable problem. We're married to the other guys - see article above. I wouldn't even mind keeping JP on the team as a reserve, but moving Teahen is another less-likely possibility.
  19. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jun 15, 2011 -> 11:53 AM) I refuse to vote, as the correct answer is that they probably deserve equal blame. In fact, I'd choose Jerry Reinsdorf if I could pick just one person. This whole situation is due to KW's lack of power over Ozzie, and that is directly on JR. THIS is the important point, IMO.
  20. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 04:48 PM) Oh yeah, that's right. I think they said he will miss tomorrows game too. I'd heard that but had forgotten. Darn.
  21. Guess who isn't in Charlotte's lineup this evening? Make it so, KW!
  22. Viciedo NOT in Charlotte's lineup tonight. Perhaps it isn't a tease this time.
  23. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 14, 2011 -> 03:37 PM) I am going to pick Dinkleman to be the bulls*** luck player of the day. That's a perfect name for a guy who gets cheap hits.
