  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 12:33 PM) We need the guys on this roster to start playing like they are paid. That would do more for this team than anything else. Do you actually believe that's going to happen with Dunn or Rios? Is 100+ games not enough?
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 12:22 PM) A guy doesn't have to be a savior to be a decent ballplayer. Agreed. The "savior" talk from Ozzie is grade A bullplop. We don't need a savior. We need incremental improvement of the offense to where we score enough to win a decent percentage of our quality starts. De Aza. Something. Anything.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 10:23 AM) Rasmus has way more value than Viciedo does Value that will decline rapidly if he can't beat out Jay. If the Cardinals have made this decision, they NEED to trade Rasmus soon to get a fair deal.
  4. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 10:19 AM) I'm calling BS. Why would they trade Rasmus for an impending FA and a 35 year old reliever? Because Rasmus is not all that, and Jackson/Thornton may be the difference in them winning their division.
  5. QUOTE (OilCan @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 10:04 AM) This is laughable. CSNChi_Beatnik Brett Ballantini Ozzie also revealed at one point recently he was so frustrated with offense, he drafted a plan to bring up Viciedo and made the call to Ken. So what happened?
  6. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 24, 2011 -> 01:33 AM) The cat and mouse Ozzie/Kenny game keeps going on... More like a chickenS*** game of chicken where they're both completely gutless, and driving the team into a ditch.
  7. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 23, 2011 -> 05:55 PM) You are probably close. The Ole Hawkero said around 9 PM Looked at the radar, the front is just past Toledo. Gonna be awhile yet.
  8. This could be a huge blessing from an albatross-removal standpoint.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 21, 2011 -> 12:13 PM) This guy has legitimately never had a chance to get going in the majors. We know Rios blows and is likely to continue said blowage Daily, we become more fully convinced that Lilli is not a full time player Give the kid a legit chance to show what he can do. Not a whole lot to lose, and now's as good a time as any.
  10. Bad overall, relative to payroll, and this isn't adjusted for how good a hitters park we have even, is it?
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 02:09 PM) 3 walks for Viciedo. Two were on 8 pitch and 11 pitch AB's, which is nice. The other one was intentional.
  12. Tank just walked for the 2nd time today to lead off the 9th, then STOLE 2B and scored the tying run. There's your leadoff man Ozzie. It's SO obvious.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 01:30 PM) That's not bad. Who gets 3B in that scenario? Omar? Please no. Teahen? Gosh no. Teahen/Omar platoon. Lilli in a pinch, no biggie. When Dayan is called up there needs to be an understanding that he plays 5 days a week. Shouldn't be that hard, but is it possible with the working realationship of KW and Oz?
  14. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 20, 2011 -> 07:00 AM) This was expected. Santiago looked good in his limited action and I'd assume he'll be back in September. Or possibly sooner if we trade EJax, etc.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 02:17 PM) Not a bad lineup Looking forward to T-Flow vs. LHP tonight. This might be a guy he could actually hit.
  16. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 01:59 PM) You don't really want more of Omar do you? I really don't think we'll see Dayan til September. They are going to stick with Juan and Dunn and there's nowhere else to play him unfortunately since I guess third base is out of the question. If Morel fails in the platoon he'll have little use on the roster, and still very little utility even he does get some hits these next two nights, because he only plays one position. Omar can play against lefties, and even Lilli can play at third in a pinch. Room on the roster should be made for Viciedo regardless. If we wait til September to bring up the Tank, it will be the most maddening mismanagement I can imagine. Say that fast 4 times.
  17. QUOTE (earthshiner @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 11:15 AM) FWIW Teahen only hits .083 against LHP Yep. Omar is somewhat respectable against LHP, and he's barely played at all lately, so WTF? If Morel fails to hit against the lefties tonight and tomorrow, is that what finally allows his demotion, and a DV or ADA promotion, such that potentially we have a roster change heading into Shank Hall?
  18. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 11:27 AM) Agreed. Not really comparable. Reed has much better control... and as a result is putting up some sick numbers. Reed's studliness really should circumvent any crazy trade for a RH reliever. He's on a rocket, and might get here before September even. And if he's not perfect right off the bat, well, hopefully we learned a lesson from last year's evaluation of Huddy. I'd guess that the info that puts us in the mix for HBell, etc. is a few weeks old, and began before the pen really solidified for us.
  19. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 11:24 AM) Is it worth pointing out that Crain is tied for 43rd in MLB in most appearances? Jonny Venters (seriously, no h in his name?), a rookie, has appeared in 12 more games. Scott Linebrink has pitched in more games than Crain. It is. I'll criticize Ozzie for a lot of things, but one thing he does very well is keeping BP arms fresh.
  20. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 07:49 AM) LOL at 3rd/4th starter. Dude has a 3.38 ERA this year, 3.82 career, not to mention the pickoff move, plus defense at position, durability, and leadership qualities. Most teams would be ecstatic to have him at #2. On some teams he'd be #1. There might be 3-4 teams where he'd be anything below a 2nd starter. Baseball-wide, he's a solid #2 starter. THIS. Dude's still underappreciated. I think he comes back for 2 years with 3rd year option. 3yrs/$40M?
  21. This should not be a huge priority for us, but Crain does stand to be the overused guy, as long as most of our games remain close ones. And maybe it's a way to move somebody else off the roster that we've been too gutless to deal with otherwise.
  22. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 11:04 AM) Dunn is going nowhere lower than 4th in the lineup. In fact, wouldn't be at all surprised to see him in there today since Ozzie says he's giving AJ and JP a day off (yes, he hits better against LH pitching, but stats are for fans). And I understand that Morel will be starting the next two days against lefties, who he hits .191 against. Somebody please inform Ozzie of the fact that platoon stats are often very individual-specific, and don't follow the usual convention. Is there anyone in the org that would actually point out such information? I'm looking for Dunn to be brought in as a pinch hitter against a lefty sometime soon.
  23. QUOTE (The Baconator @ Jul 19, 2011 -> 07:25 AM) I'll be heading out to this one tonight, making the 5 hour round-trip to catch the boys play. (I decided not to go to the game last night with Buehrle on the clock.) First time at Kauffman, should be exciting. $36 for third row behind the Sox dugout, nice. Let's get it done, Peavy! I'm jealous. I'll probably be heading to the mid-September series in KC, depending on whether we're in the hunt or not. Have fun.
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 18, 2011 -> 04:06 PM) Maybe it's a simulated game on Thursday vs. Mark Prior in KC Gotta real good feeling Danksy comes out strong in 2nd half, picks up where he left off before DL.
