QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 20, 2011 -> 11:41 AM) Meh. Other than maybe a few meathead fans, I don't think anyone would have a problem with Sandberg. It's not like he ever played vs. the Sox back then or caused any cross town riffs. He's a hall of fame hitter, I'm sure fans would give him a chance to succeed. This. I'd like Sandberg as our next manager.

Rios, Dunn, Beckham, Morel, Teahen (essentially half the team) all reached career worsts as professional hitters under Walker's watch this year. Others, Q and Lexi, are trending slightly downward, IMO. ONLY Paulie has improved steadily over time. I can't really see how you can continue to stick up for the guy, DA, other than the "hitting coach makes no difference anyway" argument.
-
The best (only?) defense of Walker is that hitting coaches don't matter. That's pretty sad.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 19, 2011 -> 08:44 AM) The hitting coach doesn't matter when you assembled a low OBP team in the first place. Don't attack a symptom of the problem, attack the cause. Well. Walk MIGHT be a problem when at least four of your starters have never been worse at hitting than they are under this staff.

8/18 Game Thread: Indians @ White Sox, 7:10pm CT
ILMOU replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in 2011 Season in Review
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 08:59 PM) I say it every night, but Beckham is just a disgrace of a player in the clutch. He's killing us. That may have been the biggest, saddest out of the season. The ease with which he can be had low and away OR up is scary. Can we see him, Dunn, Rios, Morel etc. with someone besides Walker??? -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 18, 2011 -> 07:15 AM) Jordan Danks: Still mired in the slump from hell. Went 0-for-4 with three K's. Now 2-for-28 with 18 strikeouts and one walk over his last 7. Seems like a good kid, but it's not working out. Can't be a major leaguer with that K rate, and he's already 25. Good chance he gets thrown in with any offseason trade of D1.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2011 -> 12:24 PM) I'm fine with him playing next two games against extreme sinker ballers. But as soon as Viciedo shows he's fully recovered (HRed last night for the first time in awhile), he needs to be in that same position in that lineup. And that lineup could actually be decent. De Aza should have been helping us a month earlier, but oh well. So far, the callups, ADA and TFlow have been up to the task.

QUOTE (mcgrad70 @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 10:20 PM) With the lead-off triple it becomes more interesting to venture a guess as to how they WON'T score MOST. MADDENING. TEAM. EVER.
-
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 01:48 PM) Let's win some games and move ahead of .500 Yes. Let's win TODAY, and get over .500 for the first time since... before our game on April 16th when we were 7-6. Four maddening months.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 07:57 AM) When the Marlins asked about Ozzie we told them we wanted Morrison in return. The Marlins said no and went on their merry way. With the bad blood of the Marlins sending LoMo down, IMO the deal seems a lot more possible.

87 or even 86 MIGHT get a team in a game 163, but it could go the other way where even 89 or 90 is necessary.
-
QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 16, 2011 -> 12:32 PM) I have a feeling this might be a blessing in disguise. We'll see. At least Tyler will get a legit look, which is more than I was expecting. Let's hope he's up to it.

This season is a statement on organizational resiliency
ILMOU replied to Greg Hibbard's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Organizational resiliency? Unwarranted resistance to change? It's a fine line. -
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Aug 15, 2011 -> 07:46 AM) Or Danks. Danks would be cheaper...at least for next year. But there is that loyalty between the Sox and Buehrle. It'll be interesting to see how it plays out. This. MB will be back/Danks will be traded.

QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Aug 14, 2011 -> 08:45 AM) Gotta look forward to Rios batting 5th. How many will he strand? Over/under is 7 1/2.
-
Looking at the radar, it looks like they should be playing soon.
-
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 01:30 PM) Since DET is going to be facing the same lame O's that we just feasted on, a win is a must just to keep pace. O's may hammer Penny for us - he mostly blows these days.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 12:51 PM) Please no more Omar. We can't win a division playing Rios. Just sucks that Oz won't play DeAza. Will Gordon and Hosner go deep off Zach tonight? Fathom is right. This screams KC 11, Sox 5 I like the lineup except for no DeAza vs. Rios. This is a big game and a big start for ZS - we have to win tonight, and if we do, we could actually sweep a series, perhaps, and finally get OVER .500!

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 08:52 AM) Look at Alexei's hit chart. He simply can't do the Iguchi-esque things that Morel can....execution-wise....he doesn't change his approach for the situation or count. Same thing with Quentin and Beckham. They're just up there hacking away and pulling everything. Rios, too. Morel is a team player and does the little things you don't notice in the box score. The only problem with putting Ramirez in the RBI spot is that he has sucked with runners on base, hit into way too many DP's for his speed and he's still a more dangerous hitter than Morel so you can certainly argue him getting more pitches to hit with Juan Pierre on base in front of him...that's the strongest argument on Ramirez's behalf. I've observed (though I haven't checked #'s) that Lexi draws more walks and is generally more patient batting 2nd. I like walks in front of our two guys who will each hit 35+ HR. When Morel shows that he can walk more than 5 times in a season, consider him for the 2 hole THEN. Fundamentally, I believe that OBP in the 2 hole is still more impt. than small-ball execution.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 06:52 AM) A shutout against the Royals isn't happening. They have too many good fastball hitters. http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/batvspitch/_...3926/bruce-chen AJ and Juan Pierre have hit really well against Chen. If you look at the splits, they'll tell the numbers against RHB and LHB aren't very different at all. Here's a suggested line-up. Pierre Morel (because he is our best #2 guy going forward) Konerko Quentin AJ Ramirez Rios (4 for 25 against Chen but hot as of late) Lillibridge (for Beckham at 2B) DeAza (for Dunn/DH) Beckham is 1 for 10 against Chen. Beckham can't hit a fastball on the outside half or up, and it seems all he will do is pull every outside pitch on the ground to the 3B or SS if he does actually make contact. At least this way you get Dunn/Beckham out of the line-up and a lot more pop and athleticism from the bottom of the order. DeAza has hit lefties well in AAA this year, so not worried about that, and Chen hasn't had great success against LHB's this year either. I mostly agree, except for the Morel part. We had him in the 2 hole and he failed, and we'd be jerking Lexi around yet again. Leave him at #9 this season and approach things with an open mind in the spring.

56 is a freakin' machine - that's #18.

QUOTE (MAX @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 06:14 PM) Hey you are right. He left after 5.1 one game. I was misled by something on CSN. Anyway, I think I'll shut up now since its 6-3. Only because of a near 2-hour rain delay. Otherwise he would have the QS streak intact.
-
QUOTE (TitoMB @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 11:53 AM) And we have, what, 4 more years of Done? This could go down as the worst signing in the history of the White Sox. 3 more years after this. Hopefully, he just retires.
-
As soon as DV has a 2 hit game in Charlotte, he needs to be here hitting for Dunn.
-
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 11, 2011 -> 08:51 AM) Enough is enough. He's not coming around. You can't play him and say you're seriously doing everything you can to win this season. It's insulting at this point. I was insulted before Flag Day.
