  1. Fire Don Cooper, he's obviously the reason Contreras is struggling right now.
  2. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 4, 2008 -> 06:01 AM) Sure you go through bad habits and slumps... but if your worth a damn and know anything about baseball, you wouldn't need a hitting coach to get you out of said slump. A hitting coach pretty much gives advice, but that, most of the time, doesn't work. It is dependent on the player to fix it himself. so what's your arguement then? fire walker because he's not needed, or fire walker because the guys who, in your words "Don't need a hitting coach" are slumping?
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 3, 2008 -> 09:02 PM) Mike Scoscia is also the best manager in the majors...regardless of who their GM is or what team he puts on the field, Scoscia takes it and makes it work every year. i can't disagree with this
  4. QUOTE (BearSox @ May 3, 2008 -> 10:42 PM) Also, you saying someone like Quentin needs a hitting coach is assinine. Quentin has been a great hitter his whole life, and everything you see from him is due to his incredible work ethic and talent. BA on the otherhand needs to get some talent in the hitting department. Assinine? That's ridiculous, has been a great hitter his whole life? Yeah, he's got a TON of major league experience in his combined 1 season of major league at bats, there's no possible way that in his young age, he could develop a bad habit and actually NEED someone to help him make adjustments and get his swing back. Your whole post is ridiculous, no offense. The fact is, he's a young player and young players aren't veterans and haven't been through the ups and downs that go along with helping someone become an established hitter with few weaknesses.
  5. firing walker won't do sh**, please stop rehashing this old and useless idea because the guys on the team that might actually NEED a hitting coach (Quentin and BA) are actually hitting PRETTY DAMN WELL so far, the VETS whom have grooved swings and established approaches at the plate, are the ones who have their heads up their asses now, you can ask yourself why did we HIRE walker in the first place, which is a valid question to a point, but to fire him is pointless and only serves to make yourself feel better because of how this team is making YOU feel by their constant losing, you want someone to play scape goat because your feelings are hurt
  6. The Seattle Mariners, Texas Rangers, and Oakland A's all say Hello! Not saying that's the only reason, but it's a huge reason. Those 3 teams are never contenders except for 2006 when Oakland made the playoffs
  7. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ May 3, 2008 -> 05:49 PM) So what the f*** you smiling for...not like you went ahead and bet on it. All you did was talk s*** that you would bet on it and then not say a word again until they lost 2 games. pfft. Well glad you're happy...enjoy your weekend the point is, i made the initial comment and i stood by it and we're not in first place anymore. nothing about this team except for the starting pitching, 1/3 of the pen (Logan and Thornton have been really nice so far), and Carlos Quentin has impressed me and I think they're just (so far) a bunch of underachievers setting up all the fans for a huge disappointment
  8. ah, the advantages of having a speedy RF that sometimes might be out of position.
  9. i can't remember the last time this team hit a linedrive base hit or a double to the gaps it might've been the yankees/sox game i went to a couple weeks ago, quentin hit a gapper off the LF fence, and crede doubled to LF to win the game
  10. We have the lowest Baseball IQ in the league, nobody will convince me otherwise either. This comes from the top with how this lineup was designed, down to the managers and to the hitters and their approach they take against certain pitchers. Just terrible IQ. edit: LOL @ linebrink.
  11. laughing my f***ing ass off at these clowns on our team. but hey, Quentin is good.
  12. QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ May 1, 2008 -> 08:37 AM) How much you willing to bet? if we lose today and the twins win, we're not in 1st place anymore.
  13. this team is gonna be bad tomorrow, and the next 6-7 days, hopefully these outrageous-type threads won't pollute the whole board because you KNOW what you're gonna get from this team the next week or maybe longer i don't see these guys just flipping on the switch and magically hitting all at once also what i'm curious about is, it seems there's some psychological problem with our position players and their ability to hit we had a terrible offense last year, and now we have Swisher, Cabrera, and Crede (he wasn't really part of our offense last year), and over the last 3 days, sans a Homerun.. Quentin inserted into the lineup and guess what, THEY'RE bad too. Why is this happening? One has to wonder about the clubhouse and the things that are going on in there, though I as a fan have been lead to believe that our clubhouse is perfect and everyone loves each other. So who knows, but something is causing guys to just suck offensively for this team, even when you plug in people who weren't anywhere near this team last year, what the bleep is going on.. also, why don't our hitters make adjustments, most of the lineup consists of veteran players that should know by now that you have to make adjustments in order to be successful. they came into last nights game as if they had no f***ing clue they were facing a guy who rarely throws a fastball for a strike. how could that be, it's like they're being fed WRONG scouting reports or something
  14. QUOTE (KevinM @ May 2, 2008 -> 06:58 AM) He got hurt. Do you want to blame him for it? i'm not blaming anyone for anything, i just can't believe the guy finally gets into ST and then suddenly hurts himself significantly enough to miss opening day and, ultimately, the entire first month of the season what kind of injury is it anyway, and how far along until he's ready to start platooning with uribe at 2B?
  15. what's the deal with Danny? he shows up late to ST because of Visa issues, and now he's injured for two months? what's the deal with that?
  16. lol, tigers will be in first place soon enough. after going 0-7, they've gone 14-8 (.636 WPCT), swept the yankees today too.
  17. voted for CQ about 31 times even though there's a 25 vote limit
  18. We won't be in first place in about 3-4 days, I'd bet money on it. Not with the way these guys are playing, but I hope I'm wrong, maybe the day off will help these guys gather themselves for the toronto series.
  19. Mike's got Reinsdorf on the show right now, and Jerry kind of let slip that Kenny has plans on bringing up a pitcher very soon, he made it sound like either today or not far off. Mike drilled Jerry about who it was and he kind of weaseled around the question saying he didn't want to make Kenny angry by announcing it, then he tries saying he doesn't know who it is I'd expect an announcement sometime soon, i'm guessing possibly Broadway
  20. Masset didn't pitch poor enough for a loss, even if he did give up 3 ER. Teams with lineups like ours, outscore teams like the Twins 8-3, especially with mediocre pitching on the mound. And IMO it all needs to start with Orlando Cabrera waking the **** up.
  21. With fields playing 2B, we could have possibly the most HR hit by a club in MLB history with that lineup.
  22. fields doesn't have the range to play 2B, which is sad because fatboy Uribe seemingly does.
  23. IMO the biggest disappointment on this team, and the most guilty player... offensively, is Orlando Cabrera. I can't count on two hands how many times he's come up with Swisher on base, and yet it takes a Thome double or HR to drive Swish in from 1st. OC hasn't done **** for this team this year, so far.
