  2. Coop on the score right now Says Marquez and Richard are being pencilled in as of now, as #4 and #5 (in that order) He says Marquez looks really good, I guess
  3. I guess it's weird that I feel kind of sad that Uribe is going to be playing somewhere else
  4. Peavy won't come to the american league
  5. QUOTE (daa84 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 08:32 AM) Cowley was on the score earlier and said he has to believe that this is a precursor to another move...didnt really say what it could be, but he thinks it got done before the winter meetings for a reason, so that KW can go there and execute some sort of plan He mentioned a deal for Hudson wouldn't surprise him I can't fathom why we'd want to block Beckham for a few years..

  7. QUOTE (Texsox @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 07:52 AM) And it seems we added another big, slow, power hitter . . . stop me if you've heard this before. Another big, slow, former catcher converted to 1B, stop me if you've heard this before...
  8. G&T, good post. However I disagree with you that our division is set to suck again for 2009. With the offseason just starting, we don't know what DET and CLE will look like next year, and I believe CLE will be a much better team in 2009, they were great down the stretch this year and ended up being .500 Put that into perspective given how bad their record was half-way through the year (41-54)
  9. QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 07:15 AM) You are hopelessly clueless. I'm guessing you're like 18 years old, so you have no clue who Tommy John and Bert Blyleven were. Check out their career stats and tell me a pitcher has no control over giving up home runs. I'll agree that a pitcher has some control over whether or not he gives up a HR, however a hitter ultimately has the final decision to take a pitch, or swing at it and if he swings, where he wants to put his bat while he swings There are many homeruns that are hit on good pitches
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 07:01 AM) Something else to remember. the last time the White Sox offered a pool of prospects to another team to choose from, it worked out well for us...overhyped CF Anthony Webster, P Josh Rupe and P Frank Francisco. To this day, KW has given up very little that we can sit about and be really, really upset about... Francisco Chris Young Carlos Torres Ryan Sweeney That's about it...maybe Gio Gonzalez, although he obviously took a step back in his development this season. Has anyone posted in this long thread about being upset that we only got younger by trading Javy (and Boone), and not necessarily better? I think I'm worried as a fan that the ~12 million + Boone's small salary will not be reinvested into the major league club, and will be marked away as "Trimming the payroll". That doesn't sit well with me after winning the division. If Kenny deals JD for another handful of prospects, I feel strongly that this could lead to a small firesale and the team is not going to be very competitive in 2009 He himself was 12-16, however I put zero relevance in a pitchers Win/Loss record. Having said that, the Sox won 16 games of the 33 games Javier started (48.4% Winning Percentage). There were a handful of games that he started throughout the year where he hadn't gotten any run support (e.g. vs. NYY, TOR twice, OAK, TB, and BAL), so we had opportunities to turn Javy's personal W/L into something more respectable, while winning more games as a team as well I'm not against this trade, not one bit (Flowers sounds like an elite prospect, and I'm excited to have him in our system), but unless that money is reinvested into a free agent signing, or we flip some of our minor leaguers for a MLB-ready #4-5 starting pitcher, it will leave me a bit concerned as a fan. IMO trading Jermaine Dye, despite the fact that some people feel he's "injury-prone", would hurt the club more than it would help, unless we used the money to sign Furcal or another top-level free agent
  11. QUOTE (SEALgep @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 12:17 PM) Wonder if we receive a veteran leadoff hitter by other means, and then Taveras as a CF 9 hole hitter? If his bat was to replace Uribe, I have to feel it is a significant upgrade, especially with his speed. Replace Uribe's bat... in what capacity?
  12. From ESPN Boards: lol From Yahoo Article Comments: LOL
  13. Ryne Sandberg says he has a very short swing and big-time power Odd how two people see a player so differently
  14. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 05:18 PM) Could this free up for a Furcal signing? I know it said there is a mystery team that needs to swing a deal to make it work with Furcal....just sayin Probably not

just wanted to add/reiterate always, ALWAYS, tip your delivery driver if they're using their own personal vehicle to deliver your food it costs a lot to maintain your own vehicle when using it for your job, and delivery drivers that use their own vehicle have to be on a commercial insurance policy (if they want to drive legally) which can cost about $200+/mo. now, granted, this can be deducted on their income taxes but they aren't getting all of that money back here's a good article on why you should tip your delivery driver http://ezinearticles.com/?How-Much-to-Tip-...&id=1450287
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 27, 2008 -> 06:33 AM) Firesales are auctioning off players like Lofton, Durham, Howry, etc. We're hardly doing that, unless you consider when we traded Freddy Garcia and Brandon McCarthy to be "fire sales." I certainly didn't. There's no reason you can't get younger, more athletic and have a more flexible payroll at the same time. Our best team in the last four years was the one with clearly the lowest payroll. Did we have a "fire sale" to get rid of Carlos Lee, Valentin and Ordonez. I think not, although some consider the Lee for Pods deal exactly that kind of trade. i fully understand that it isn't always the players that cost the most money, that are the most talented or best fit for your club with that said, i don't see how trading somebody like Jermaine for a handful of prospects and/or middle/end of the rotation starters makes our team any better Jermaine is the second best run producer in our lineup (assuming Carlos has another stellar year in 2009, also assuming Jermaine has a 2006/2008 type of year in '09), shipping him off for guys that aren't ready for the pros, or aren't pretty much a sure-thing, obviously doesn't make this team better for 2009, it makes it worse the only way i can see freeing up a bunch of payroll, in trades for lower caliber players or prospects, helping the team is to reinvest that money you are saving into a free-agent like Furcal or Hudson (Alexei to CF) trading guys like Jermaine just to free up money to chop the payroll is what a fire-sale basically is, and what I'm hoping Kenny isn't doing

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Nov 27, 2008 -> 03:45 AM) False The person below me went to a different college than the one they grew up rooting for... False The person below me enjoys watching Survivorman
  21. QUOTE (R.J. @ Nov 27, 2008 -> 03:23 AM) It's already been alluded to, but the negotiations in the Peavy deal did not include Hanson or Heyward, so expecting the White Sox to snag either of those guys in a deal for a lesser player would be unrealistic. Also, after hearing some of the recent comments KW has released, it looks like we're in full payroll cutting mode here. Firesale after winning the division, nice.
  22. What about Mauer leading off, followed by Alexei then CQ?
  23. god damn it, someone PM me the original thread title
  24. Dye for Bailey would be f***ing stupid.
  25. glad i'm not the only person who thought his homerun swing looks very similar to dye's, not a bad thing (it's my fav. swing in all of baseball)
