S/T: 3/04 - Sox vs. Oakland - 2pm - Broadway vs. Eveland
QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Mar 4, 2009 -> 03:47 PM) :lolhitting That seriously made me laugh out loud, I almost blew Dr. Pepper through my nose, lol. never have been a fan of broadway, and he's most likely quickly falling out with the FO player evaluators as well players like him actually need to perform in spring training, and he was clearly rattled in a game that doesnt matter

So far, so good for Marquez
QUOTE (rowand's rowdies @ Mar 3, 2009 -> 09:42 AM) Marquez looked good against the Cubs, I was there. He's got a strange delivery that looks like it fools hitters. Almost like they expect him to throw faster. Then again, that's usually how the Cub's hitters look - fooled. like sonnanstine for TB?

ST Game: 3/02 Sox vs. Mariners (2:05 CT)
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 02:15 PM) CR is dealing right now. Suddenly our young pitching depth doesn't seem to be a problem well, spring training is about as deceiving as a cross-dressing clown

ST Game: 3/02 Sox vs. Mariners (2:05 CT)
from cowley's blog earlier: cst_sox: Colon now finished. cst_sox: Contreras done. Front office has to be thrilled with that showing. cst_sox: Contreras has a lot more pop than Colon right now. cst_sox: Contreras even dropping his arm down. Impressive. cst_sox: Colon does look very round. cst_sox: Contreras and Colon warming up. Both look strong. reverse the posts for chronological order

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 02:03 PM) I kinda like the behind home plate camera. which is weird, because they showed that they have a camera stationed for the standard view behind the pitcher, but they aren't using it for some reason

Guillen gives Viciedo new nickname, no mention of "Slayer"
QUOTE (Cubano @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 10:46 PM) They do not have the cuban insider you guys have. no kidding! but seriously, they're adding letters and stuff to his name even "VicieNdo"? lol

Wilson "the colander" Betemit, Owens and other thoughts
trying to be as objective and rational as i can here viciedo reminded me more of vladimir guerrero today than manny ramirez, he was swinging at pitches way out of the zone as if he wasn't recognizing them at all with that said, i'm not drawing any harsh conclusions after seeing him in TWO AT-BATS, especially given the enormous pressure this young kid is under right now which could easily be taking him out of his own element, affecting his hitting knowing what we have right now, Josh Fields will get the 3B job out of spring training because this team pretty much owes it to him (for what it's worth, Williams said at Sox Fest this year that he felt bad for Josh not being given a chance in 2008 because Crede was coming back supposedly healthy), as he performed rather well in 2007 (his K numbers were atrocious, and his average wasn't very good, but he's shown he can hit big-league pitching and hit with incredible power) and as Stoney says, if you can hit in the big leagues, a team will find a position for you to play at the 3B job this spring isn't really a competition, as I feel Fields could play rather poorly overall compared to Viciedo, and still win the job out of spring due to what the team knows of Josh's capabilities, Viciedo right now is a huge unknown and even more-so when april comes around right now, none of us here can say which player is truly better at 3rd, offensively and defensively. all we know is, the White Sox know what they're getting from Fields and I believe Viciedo would have to play at least similar defense, and absolutely crush Fields offensive production this spring to draw any significant attention towards being the starter in 2009

ST Game: 3/01 Sox @ Dodgers - 2:05 pm CST
QUOTE (Cubano @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 03:07 PM) How good has Fields look? One hit and caught stealing yesterday. Fields hit 23 homeruns and 67 RBI in 373 atbats in 2007 Fields has far and away the advantage in this "competition".

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 03:05 PM) Fool me? I just said the same thing you did. i know you agree with me, my point was there will probably be people in the media or in the Sox FO that will continue discussing "the battle at 3B" which could end up convincing people otherwise
