  1. I honestly don't know because I haven't watched him play a lot, but his batted ball profile is not that different than Daniel Palka. Line Drive/Ground Ball/Fly Ball Pederson: 17% / 39.4% / 43.6% Palka: 16.3 % / 45.8% / 37.9 Soft Contact/Medium/Hard Pederson: 19.4% / 47.6% / 33.0% Palka: 20.5% / 43.2% / 36.4% BABIP Pederson: .253 Palka: .308
  2. The following players on the White Sox (minimum 100 PAs) had a lower strikeout rate than Joc Pederson last season: 1. Kevan Smith
  3. I would be filled with mirth if this deal somehow included the poor man's Joc Pederson, Daniel Palka (who despite his terrible defense I think fits better as an NL 5th OF/pinch hitter). Of course there is a zero percent chance that happens though.
  4. The White Sox also had 5 guys on last year's list for BA. 4. Eloy 11. Kopech 57. Hansen 58. Robert 82. Dunning Hansen obviously fell apart but I don't think Dunning is probably too far outside this list. He had a very good season until the injury. Another season like last year and he's likely a September call-up. Burdi and Burger have become much bigger question marks due to injuries and guys like Collins and Rutherford have lost a little luster, but didn't have terrible seasons. I think the biggest disappointment is that no one really made much of a leap last year other than Cease.
  5. I sure am glad this off season has dragged to the point where every thread becomes a debate on whether or not it is worth it for the White Sox to try to not be bad on purpose for the next two seasons.
  6. Firstly, spectacular arbitrary cutoff of a .340 OBP. Secondly, who is Jay taking ABs away from in 2019 that you are mad about?
  7. He didn't make his first start of the season until June. He had a forearm issue IIRC and a lot of people wondered if it would have just been better off for him to get TJ.
  8. Imagine if Palka were able to improve both his walk rate and strikeout rate by nearly 50%, become a competent defender and somehow age in reverse 8 months. That's Joc Pederson.
  9. From the Dodgers perspective it's probably a lot easier to see these two guys go to the AL than a team that they may be facing in the playoffs next season. Not to say that the White Sox would be able to offer a lot less, but if the two offers would be close enough then the White Sox would likely win out. This is even more true if Rich Hill is involved in the deal.
  10. Rich Hill would be the Sox best starter if her were acquired. He gets hurt ever year so I could see him getting slotted as the #3 in the rotation, but when he's healthy it's hard to image he not the best starter on the team. If everything goes perfectly a Rodon, Lopez, Hill, Giolito, Nova isn't going to be so bad that it keeps you from making the playoffs, but most likely it's just a stop gap group that requires three guys to be replaced on a playoff team.
  11. I would not at all be surprised if Avi outperforms Jay next year. I am not at all upset that I don't have to watch Avi play baseball for a team I care about in 2019.
  12. I hope there is at least a little bit to this rumor. Young Joc would be a huge upgrade. I don't think the rumored names going to the Dodgers make much sense, but I guess if Rich Hill is a salary dump it makes a little more sense. I wouldn't mind if Jace Fry were in this deal instead of Bummer. People getting hung up on platoon splits is a little silly right now to me. Pederson is a legit major league player and Jay/Engel/Palka/Delmonico aren't. If the Sox are actually in the race in 2020 then maybe you try to find a platoon partner for Pederson, but right now I'll just happily take the massive upgrade in CF for now.
  13. What does this prove? He's not even wearing a hat in this picture.
  14. Yeah, one time I got Paul Konerko's autograph.
  15. I know Vlad Jr. probably won't last long at 3B, but that is where he'll be slotted for next year at least.
  16. Maybe the White Sox can get Pitbull to throw out the first pitch and sing the national anthem on opening day.
  17. Bruce not even being worthy of of a mention by Lozano in his hit piece is really good though.
  18. This off season has reached next level stupidity that I didn't even know was possible. It would be a lot more enjoyable watching it from the outside instead of dying inside every time something is reported that just makes it seem like the decision is being pushed further and further back.
  19. The White Sox offer to Manny Machado is to be an unpaid intern for 10 years and then after that he will get the league minimum.
  20. Moncada was 19 years old when he signed with the Red Sox. That is not a fair comparison.
  21. Hopefully Machado signs today and we don't have to worry about insider rumors.
  22. Sure, but they also have Soto, Robles, Eaton, and Michael Taylor. It's one thing to retain Harper, but even without him they'll have a pretty good outfield. Forcing two guys out of position to shoehorn in a player where you don't have a need doesn't make a ton of sense.
