You know what worked out really great for the White Sox the past few seasons? Having a few really good players, no depth, and no prospects. So let's go ahead and instead have just one really good player, no depth, and trade away all of our prospects!

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Jul 19, 2017 -> 05:03 PM) What would be a good 2.5 months for Moncada? sub 30% K rate and don't look like a total mess in the field

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 10:33 PM) We just acquired another top 50 OF prospect, I think this signals Avi is as good as gone. Pretty good chance none of the top three OF prospects in the system reach the majors before Avi reaches free agency. Although that may not mean anything and I would treat Avi the opposite of how I would have Kahnle. His long track record of mediocrity (or worse) makes me think his value out in the market is lower than what it should be right now. I would want a top 75 prospect in a deal back even though I lean on the side of this being a mirage, but I'm more willing to roll the dice and keep him around if it isn't.

QUOTE (kwill @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 10:21 PM) I guess the big difference with some people is that they rate Tommy Kahlne differently. I view him as a good as Andrew Miller but with not with the consistent pedigree. Have a consistent pedigree is huge though when talking relievers. Link of Fangraphs Article today below. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/the-white-s...jor-trade-chip/ Another difference though is that Kahlne will be cheaper than Miller moving forward with Miller making another 2/18 after the time of the trade. Kahlne still has all three years of arbitration left which if he does really well will equal what 3/15. Remember what happend to Dellon Betances. Then on top of it you add the additional value of David Robertson and Todd Frazier( even if marginal) with taking back Clippard. In my opinion, you should be able to match or get better value than what the Yankees got for Miller last year at the deadline. Rutherford is a good start but you need at least another 2 intriguing pieces to get me excited. Don't disagree that Kahnle as the potential to net you more than what it looks like the Sox will get in this deal, but I actually think his value would have been higher next year's deadline. Had he kept up his current performance the rest of this year and the first half of next year he would then elevate into more elite reliever deals we've seen recently, even if it was with one less year of team control. I think it's worth it to get ~85% of his potential value now rather than having him get hurt or turn into a pumpkin.

QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Apr 26, 2017 -> 06:26 PM) Giolito is f***ing garbage. I definitely expected a much worse line when I saw this post. through 4 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 6 Ks Not a great start, but far from 'f***ing garbage'

Chicago White Sox @ Cleveland Indians 4/13/17

These 5 p.m. start times can go to hell. -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 08:11 PM) Reynold back out for the 6th despite approaching 100 pitches. Picked up his 10th K on a nice slider just off the corner. Then hung up a meatball slider for a 2 run bomb to the next batter. And that's it for him today.

QUOTE (Soha @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 09:10 PM) Hmm... Seth Beer's current stats (that are relevant to this discussion) as listed on Clemson's site: Overall stats: .265 BA, 113ab, 30 hits, 9 home runs, 18 strikeouts Stats with homeruns taken out: .202 BA, 104ab, 21 hits Stats with homeruns and strikeouts taken out: .244 BA, 86ab, 21 hits The numbers with hr's taken out, but not strikeouts is the closest one to the .209 listed earlier in the thread. That was based off a slightly different point, because his average was .255 there, but is .265 right now. Maybe I'm having a brain fart and there's something else to discount from his totals that hasn't dawned on me. Foul ball outs

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Apr 7, 2017 -> 04:37 PM) Cody Asche DOB: 6/30/1990 Matt Davidson DOB: 3/26/1991 There is less then a year separating these two players. As far as I'm concerned, they're both worthy of getting at bats for the Sox. Asche has ~1200 more plate appearances than Davidson at the major league level and has proven to be Avi Garcia level bad. There is no reason to give him at bats.

Quintana Rumors: Round and round and round we go
TomPickle replied to GGajewski18's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (ptatc @ Dec 10, 2016 -> 01:32 PM) Any other cynics here think that the "rebuilding idea" and the two trades were just excuses to get rid of "perceived" problems in Sale and Eaton and the Sox are done trading? I certainly hope that's not the case. The Sox don't have to trade Quintana since the Sox should hopefully be ready to compete before his contract is up, but there's no reason to hang on to Fraizer, Melky, Robertson, and maybe Abreu too. Sale and Eaton may be the only two major moves, but it shouldn't be the only two. -
Welp, I think that's enough for me tonight.

I don't take any real stock in the defensive numbers from last year. I also don't take much stock in games played at a position in the minor leagues. You keep a guy at SS until he proves he can't play the position. Scouting reports I have read mostly say that he projects as more of a 2B, but also that his defense has continually improved while in the minors. I have never seen anything about him being a gold glove caliber defensive player like some other people have mentioned in here, but I'm willing to bet the Sox can get by with him at SS until Anderson is ready.
-
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Dec 20, 2015 -> 08:15 PM) I think his defense at SS will be far more than acceptable What is that based on? Defensive metrics (in a very small sample) did not like him at all at SS last year and all the scouting reports I've seen have him pegged as more of a 2B that can play SS.
-
Streamer has him at .243/.301/.360 I'd take that in a heartbeat if he can play acceptable defense at SS

Sox Acquire All-Star 3B Todd Frazier from Reds in 3 team deal
TomPickle replied to Princess Dye's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Hatchetman @ Dec 16, 2015 -> 09:15 PM) I can't recall the exact numbers but Sox position players had like 17 cumulative WAR, which was dead last or near it in MLB. good teams have about 40 WAR. So let's say Frazier gives you 5-6 extra. Lawrie 2-3. where's the rest coming from? There has been one team since 2000 to produce a 40+ WAR for position players and that was the 2001 Mariners that won 116 games. White Sox had an absurdly low 3.1 cumulative WAR for their position players last year. If Lawrie and Frazier perform the exact same as they did last year that would be a 7.5 WAR increase over what the White Sox got out of 2B and 3B last season. Don't think this trade alone makes the Sox contenders, but don't think they are 4-5 players away either like some have said in this thread. -

ZiPS projections

Zobrist would be incredible, but you'd have to think Tampa wouldn't take less than Tim Anderson for him and I don't think the Sox can afford to do that for one year of Zobrist.
-
Lowrie played exclusively at SS last year (0.6 UZR in 1146 innings), but you would have to think that he could still handle 2B. There were some Astros rumors swirling around earlier in the off-season and he said he'd be willing to play 3B for them so he would probably be willing to play 2B for the Sox.

I have an interview for a shared IT manager between three Park Districts in the western suburbs on Tuesday. This would be a pretty big step up from my current job so I'm not sure how my credentials will stack up against the other candidates, but I would love this job. I'm very ready to get out of consulting.
