  1. AJ will be tough to sign. I'm still convinced that his relationship with the Giants was spoiled when he took them to arbitration right after they traded for him.
  2. The hard part is staying healthy for so many years. Pitchers can get hurt so many ways, not just arms. You can step in hole shagging flies, or take a ball off your hand. --the best, I just heard CZambrano has carpal tunnel from instant messaging his daughter in Venezuala!
  3. QUOTE(shagar69 @ May 22, 2005 -> 11:19 AM) the other day a friend and i were arguing about 300 game winners. specifically we were talkin about what current pitchers have a chance to get it. We went through some names and then I said, kinda half-jokingly, Buehrle woudl do it. He immediately started laughin and i kinda did too. But after thinkin about it for a while, i honestly think he has a decent chance to do it. Hes young, doesnt get hurt at all, pitches 200+ innings every year, and his good for 16, 17 a year, if not more. He should play for at least 10 more years. What do u think of his chances? He’s 26 and had 69 wins going into the season so he needs 231. He’s got 7 of them so far. If he pitches to age on the left he needs to average the number on the right wins per season, including this year. Age Wins 36 -23 37 -21 38 -19 39 -18 40 -17 41 -15 42 -14 43 -14 Quite a tall order.
  4. QUOTE(whitesoxin' @ May 22, 2005 -> 11:02 AM) I agree with everything you said. There is no way I ever want to trade Big Frank. I hope he retires as a White Sox and goes into the HOF wearing our cap. Agreed The only way I can conscience Frank Thomas leaving the White Sox is if his skills decline to the point he can't make the team but still wants to play. I don't think that day has come but if it does he would deserve his chance to stay in the majors somewhere else -like Babe Ruth going to the Braves. He will help this team tremendously when he comes back this year.
  5. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 22, 2005 -> 10:29 AM) Yes. If he makes that catch, the outcome would have been much different. He gave it a helluva try. I thought it was dumb baseball. If he pulls up and takes it on a bounce then Podsednik still scores but Rowand either stops at 3B or is thrown out. It would have been a tie game at his home field. But he tried to be a hero and lost the lead for his team.
  6. The Braves - Red Sox game was on at the bar last night so I just saw little bits of it without sound. I noticed it rained almost the whole game but the field really held up great. I didn't see a single puddle. Did the broadcasters mention it? Before Bossard replaced the field, Fenway used to turn into a swamp with the least rain shower, outfielders splashing around. It's night and day different. It might rain today at the Green Latrine, that place is even worse than Fenway was, it cost us a game last year when Ozzie agreed to call a close game so he wouldn't get any of his guys killed. Why can't they take some of the money they're scalping from the fans and get a professional to fix that field right?
  7. QUOTE(TLAK @ May 22, 2005 -> 06:32 AM) it doesn't, see if this compiles wma Nope page link, trying for the Konerko audio highlight Page link

  10. Where's the 200 post thread about the decline of society and lost civility? Fights over whether Old Style or Old Style Lite is better! The moral fiber of the nation is rotting away and we don't hear anything about it! I guess this stuff at the Green Latrine is just part of the beloved 'ambiance', but at Cellular it's an awful experience that must be stamped out. Knock 'em dead Stef! Glad you had a good time and give them hell today.
  11. The key for me is he's played consecutive nights.
  12. Whitehead ended up 13-13, he walked 101 guys. Baseball Reference

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ May 17, 2005 -> 09:44 AM) Nope. Never been there, probably never will. Last time I was there I saw Bobby Douglas play quarterback. No green, this is really true.
  14. Umpires: HP: Mike DiMuro. 1B: Mark Carlson. 2B: Joe West. 3B: Brian Gorman. Joe West's crew, Oh-oh.
  15. Here’s a weird theory. Home runs went up during the steroid era both because hitters were stronger but also because pitchers who have limited talent picked up a couple MPH. A harder thrown ball in the wrong place goes a lot farther.
  16. QUOTE(whitesox91403 @ May 16, 2005 -> 03:35 AM) I have no agaenda other than to watch The Sox. I'm going on a bus trip with my father in law and my brother in law, both Cubs fans. This was my Father's Day present. I hear a lot of crap about The "fans" at the confines that start s*** with guys in Sox gear. I'm kind of sweating that a bit though. Not that I can't handle myself, but I've been a cop for 6 years and really just don't want to deal with it. I deal with that s*** enough Better bring your gun.
  17. I don't read him and I don't care what he thinks about the White Sox, their fans or anything else. He does not exist in my world, he's irrelevant. Skip him and go to the crossword.
  18. QUOTE(BuehrleTheAce @ May 14, 2005 -> 09:29 PM) LOL WTF is a "fungo"???? Here's an article about why it's called a fungo. It's a light bat that is easy to swing, important if you are a coach hitting a couple hundred balls in practice every day. A pal of mine coaches little league and makes everybody take 5 grounders and 5 fly balls. I think there are about 15 kids on the team so he hits at least 150 balls every practice!
  19. QUOTE(elrockinMT @ May 14, 2005 -> 02:10 PM) Please forgive me for waxing the philosophical a bit Sox Talk friends, but here goes: I just want to sit back and suck it all in. The Sox setting records for winning games; How the Sox win games; leading the majors in wins; Jon Garland with the best Sox pitching record for starting a season since Joel Horlen; Good publicity for the Sox; FUN; The fact Frank Thomas will be back and the Sox can only get better in the hitting department; I have been a Sox fan since just a kid back in 1959, and I am having fun right along with the Sox. I appreciate the opportunity to share these thoughts and just talk baseball with all you Sox Talk posters. On to October... Very cool. My earliest memory is my Dad getting excited at the TV during the Sox '59 celebration in Cleveland. I remember him shouting ‘There’s Nellie Fox pouring beer on Aparicio!” That’s all I remember, I was 7. I lost him last year, but didn’t cry because it was a battle with cancer and we had already talked it through many times. The last time I cried was when the Sox clinched in Minnesota, 2000. If the boys do it this year, maybe I’ll cry again. Some tears from happiness but also a few with my Dad.
  20. Larry Vanover has the plate. Tends to a large strike zone. This is good, the White Sox wouldn't survive a hitters umpire against that O's lineup.
  21. Ozuna is the DH tonight, according to Bruce Levine.
  22. Tom Singer on MLB.com had a good line about the Sox too: "They won't be dragged down by a hitting slump, because they don't hit anyway."
  23. Anybody think Burke end up with the Blue Jays?
