  1. QUOTE(3E8 @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 02:50 PM) I think he means having the best record right now doesn't guarantee you a spot in the future. Probably but you never know with JUGGERNAUT, he might reel off 4 pages of stats to prove it.
  2. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 02:44 PM) It's nice to think that the best record in MLB guarantees you a playoff spot but it doesn't. Huh?
  3. Radio says about a 3:30 start. Buerhle's doing belly flops on the tarp.
  4. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 02:12 PM) Thanks for all of the interesting information. Just pulling your chain, pal.
  5. QUOTE(Frankensteiner @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 02:14 PM) I'm betting you'll get a nice batch of rain within 20 minutes. Looks like it, but it wont last long.

  7. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 4, 2005 -> 01:03 PM) They still haven't sent nine, they've sent seven and a corpse and a turd named Crede. Didn't the corpse get a hit? If I got the right guy he went 3 for 4 with 2 Ribs if I recall. The turd started 2 double plays and caught a tough pop up at an important time. BTW, Pabst Blue Ribbon was originally developed to kill Sheephead in the Wisconsin river.
  8. What a great season it has been so far. Not just the winning, but the team has satisfied in many different ways. There have been many close nail biting games to keep you on the edge of your seat and entertain you the whole night, plus give you something to talk about until the next one. We’ve had thrill of winning and the agony of defeat. There have been awards, Player of the Week and Pitcher of the Month. We’ve seen a closer get blown out of his job and a closer with a perfect record. The Manager has looked like a genius one day and like an idiot the next. We’ve seen a 1 hour 38 minute game and 112 pitches in 4 innings. We’ve seen a catcher play 3rd, a 3rd baseman play short, a left fielder play short and a right fielder play 1st. We’ve seen a batter hit and not go to first, and a wild pitch bounce off a wall perfectly to nail a runner. The manager has taken on the press, the umpires, Wrigley Field and some of his own players. We have seen some errors but not a case I can think of where a player put himself above the team. Good players under performing like Dye and role players over performing like Widger. And now we get to see a Hall of Famer at the plate almost everyday. There have been so many negative, depressing posts about players and the manager on this board, I’d just like to remind everybody that this has been a great season to date. I get as mad as anyone about some of Ozzie’s moves or players not coming through 100% of the time, but remember that its all part of the game, part of the mix of events that make up a season. Don’t let your anger over a guy obscure the big picture. This team is fun, watching them is fun. Have some fun too.
  9. I think Timo played is way off the roster last night. Oz gave him a chance to compete for Ross Gload's role and he blew it.
  10. Screw Brantley, Ozzie's the manager. Don't take s*** from nobody, Oz.
  11. I appreciate every one’s comments on Ozzie and were it later in the year I’d likely pile on. But it’s Memorial Day week. Somebody had to be sent down for El Duke tomorrow so he had to find out if Walker could stick. He couldn’t and he’s gone. Walker has nothing to b**** about, he got a chance but didn’t get it done. Somebody’s got to be able to sub for Kornerko at 1B and if Timo could do it they could have saved a roster spot (over Gload), he can do everything else Gload can do. If Timo could have moved into Gloads’ role then Everett takes Timo’s because Everett can do everything else Timo can do. Timo had a chance but didn’t get it done. I was at the game and despite his rep from Japan, Timo did not look like he could be a defensive 1B in the bigs to me. Should Frank go back on the DL it doesn’t matter for the present, (you just slide Ross back in) but before the game the White Sox had to find out. To win a pennant you need to assemble a roster and get to know who can do what and who cannot. In a perfect world this is all worked out in ST, but the world is full of unexpected developments. How much of this experimentation is Ozzie’s imagination and how much is Kenny Williams’ we will never learn. But we did learn that Walker is not a LH option at this time and Timo is not a 1B option at this time.
  12. Fluff. Maybe Ozzie is maturing or has learned his lesson. sigh.
  13. Stick with this guy. He will be fine over the long run. You want Mike Jackson back?
  14. I never saw him play, but my Dad told me he was better than Aparicio. I've never seen anyone better than Aparicio -not Jeter, Belanger, Smith or even Concepcion. I have a lot of respect for the Shortstop position. He retired mighty young (31 years old in 1959), is there a story behind why?
  15. Jeffie is the perfect cub fan. Didn't know where he was, didn't know the words to the song but looked marvelous in his designer haircut and team jacket. I'm a NASCAR fan and have watched his whole career, he's always a whiner and sometimes an Eddie Cleaver-like ass kisser when it suits him. But as much as I root against him I must admit that little SOB can really drive a race car.
  16. Waiting, FOREVER, for the game. Tripped across this in USA today. I wonder who won.
  17. QUOTE(JimH @ May 24, 2005 -> 07:18 PM) You're being blinded by your dislike of the player. To be blunt, you don't know what you're talking about here. Crede won't get you a solid utility player? That's all I needed to read. Cincy would make that deal all day long, and the White Sox wouldn't make that deal all day long. You are the voice of reason in this discussion. Is there a JimH support group? Sign me up.
  18. QUOTE(3E8 @ May 24, 2005 -> 07:11 PM) And those of us who work. Try being a geezer who has to work.
  19. QUOTE(doUrememberwhen @ May 24, 2005 -> 06:53 PM) JUST SAY NO.... To trading BMAC Agreed. You never ever ever ever ever trade stud young pitching unless a. he's hurt b. he's a jag c. your'e the cubs
  20. I hate these 9 oclock starts, great for the west coasters but hard on geezers in Chicago.
  21. QUOTE(Milkman delivers @ May 24, 2005 -> 10:53 AM) Herb was a 3B. I'm appalled that you didn't know that. Herb was also a very good 1B man. 1.000 fielding Pct over 114 games. He didn't have the power or average to hold the position, -remember he played with Jim Thome, Fred McGriff, Frank Thomas, Paul Konerko, Rapheal Palmiero and Mark Teixeira - but he was just fine with the glove.
  22. The Marlins have a special place in my heart due to the 2003 playoffs. I live by St. Jane’s and they had the Our Lady of the Millennium statue up during the playoffs that year. This is a 40 foot tall Madonna that comes on the back of semi-trailer. They raise it up hydraulically in the church parking lot. People come from miles around to say the rosary and other prayers. At my house we called her Our Lady of the Marlins and fervently prayed for her help in defeating the cubs. The power of prayer is real, the cub lost in the most ignoble manner imaginable. At Thanksgiving that year grace ended ‘God bless the cook, those who have left us (names…), and God Bless the Florida Marlins. Like everyone else I had noticed the Marlins in the second half that year but I didn’t really watch them until the playoffs against the Giants. I remember saying “I love these guys, they play just like the old White Sox.” They won by riding a couple hot pitchers, a couple hot bats and not doing anything stupid. I went to US Cellular to see them during the hurricane game, when they beat Gary Majewski by just doing their jobs as the Expo’s self-destructed. They did nothing spectacular, no heroism, just played 9 solid innings of baseball and waited them out. Now people are saying the White Sox are playing like the Marlins but I think both the White Sox and the Marlins are really playing like the old White Sox I grew up watching.
  23. QUOTE(Steve Bartman's my idol @ May 23, 2005 -> 06:47 PM) I hope the Cubs get jobbed if they do make a deal. He also mentioned that the player named Carruthers, who the Cubs got in the Sosa deal quit baseball. So the trade amounts to Sosa for Hairston and Fontenot. He mentioned that Baltimore will give the Cubs another player, why I don't know. A deal is a deal, its not like they didn't scout this player. What does ATH stand for so I could check out the names mentioned, I don't mean to sound ignorant. ATH is the Around the Horn page on this site. anyone think the O's will offer Albert Bell?
  24. Levine just reported that the White Sox have picked up Ozzie Guillen's option year, 2006, and extended his contract 2 additional years.
  25. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 23, 2005 -> 08:43 AM) The baskets are there so the drunken idiot Flubs fans don't grab every ball that flies near the wall and interfere with the game. also keeps the semen from killing the grass
