  1. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 05:24 PM) I vaguely remember being critical of Ozzie last season for the altercation between the two, but I can't for the life of me remember what happened. Oh and let's keep this one clean. The umps didn't cost us the game. Crede shoulda been wrung up on the pitch before. If you want to b**** about the Umps, go type in all caps in another post. This thread is for intelligent discourse. He's the guy Oz said wasn't a pimple on his fathers ass, which got him suspended. Then gun decked his report to the league so Ozzie called him a liar and got suspended again.
  2. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 27, 2005 -> 05:21 AM) If Uribe has to miss time or gets hurt for an extended period of time in the future, we are screwed. Neither Ozuna nor Willie can play SS effectively or consistently. There would be alot of balls going through that hole. Ozuna looked OK at SS in ST.

    Greg Norton

I don't remember anyone posting this. White Sox Transactions 4/23/05 Signed INF Greg Norton to a Minor League contract and assigned him to Triple-A Charlotte. I knew he was sent down by the Rockies but don't remember him getting released or refusing to report. Good move. No allstar but Major League depth in case something bad should happen.
  4. QUOTE(SoufSideHitMen @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 08:03 PM) INDEED! as much as I loVE the White sox winning "SOX WIN,CUBS LOSE, A PERFECT DAY!" i am almost as appy to hear the cubs lose. If the cubs were 16-4 it wouldnt hit me too hard considering ive been dealing with white sox failure and cubs success all my life. BTW, Welcome to SoxTalk!
  5. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Apr 26, 2005 -> 08:23 PM) How long have you been alive?? 6 years? Even that won't do it. Over the past 6 seasons and the start of this year The White Sox are 599 and 554 +45. The algae are 564 and 590 -26.
  6. Oh? In my life time the Sox are 4247 and 3989, thats 258 over, The blue vermin are 3870 and 4359, 489 under. If you are, say, 15 the numbers Sox are 1260 and 1121 +139. The head lice are 1146 and 1235 -89. One of the reason worm fans get so excited is they have no tradition of winning. When they do anything competetive it really is news.
  7. QUOTE(Leonard Zelig @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 08:45 PM) Why no Pods? Due to Zito. All RH line up.
  8. QUOTE(backman @ Apr 25, 2005 -> 08:37 PM) is there a time table of when Aj will be back? When Zito's not pitching. I read he could have gone today.
  9. I’ve been biting my tongue on this post since my ballet crack because I didn’t want to start a war among all the good posters, including SouthSideIrish. But, you should have seen that place in the 70’s. The South Side Hitmen year, 1977, I can only describe as bedlam. I was about the age of many of the current posters then and went to many games. There was smoking in the seats but not all was tobacco, I literally saw bongs being passed in the stands. You could sneak anything into the stadium; drugs, bottles of whiskey, fireworks and weapons. Underage drinking was rampant, it was rumored you could get served with a Cub Scout ID. If a pretty girl walked by you couldn’t hear the PA over the whistles and cat calls. There were fights all over the place, one time there was a melee and whole group of fighters got taken down stairs. They were back the next inning and I found out they were cops. People rode the players without mercy and very often racially. Oscar Gamble used to really get it, because of his fro, I think. Guys would throw beer cups and all kinds of stuff at him. When he hit a long fly for an out they would yell ‘one more chitlin for breakfast’ (after Harry’s one more biscuit for breakfast away from a homer). And Oscar was on our side. I bet you young people don’t believe me, ask some old timers –black men, they took that s*** everyday (not just at the ballpark) and if they hit back they ended in jail instead of the white guy. America in general, and US Cellular in particular, is a better place today. I don’t want to go back to that time. But with this perspective I don’t get excited when folks get up during an inning or a guy sneaks a smoke. JR has done a good job cleaning the place up, any of the above behavior would get you a ride to 26th and California today and rightly so. But let’s not get so prudish the place stops being a ballpark and becomes a piano recital.
  10. QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 24, 2005 -> 09:37 PM) But they arent ESPN analyists. Oh? They work for ESPN1000 and sometimes get pretty anal.

    Brantley

QUOTE(Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 24, 2005 -> 12:16 AM) My major problems with people like him is that they base their entire opinion on a few highlights they see every night and they have so many teams that they need to cover that they cant possibly understand every team. Therefore, I take little to no stock into what nationa "experts" say about a team. That applies to Fox/ESPN announcers in football and baseball. There are so many times they say something and state it as fact, but any person who has seen at least one full game knows it's flat out wrong. My $.02 is that you shouldnt really be bothered by what the nationa guys are saying. Excellent post.
  12. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 22, 2005 -> 07:04 AM) On the smoking issue, if the Sox want to make going to the ballpark a truly family fun experience, make the stadium a non - smoking one. They do it all for the stadiums down here, just make the people go outside to do it and they can come back in. In the long run, thats probably what will happen.
  13. Anyone else think it is strange that smoking is not permitted in the seats, which are basically out in the open air, but is allowed on the concourse, under a roof -where the food is prepared? Always struck me as backwards. They really should designate sections as smoking or not, and include the concessions too. As it stands people who are allergic or just object to smoking can't get away from it entirely, and people who smoke are inconvenienced or criminalized. Civility is a two way street.
  14. Jimmy Dykes. Never saw him manage but loved his book 'You can't steal first base'. He was knowledgeable and funny, but never had the horses to win with. He's the only Sox manager I know of who was once a pipe fitter in the off season.
  15. QUOTE(southsideirish @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 05:27 PM) So do you know what you are talking about any longer? I was responding to the smoke being blown in my face. Common sense here please. Neither of these things I am talking about just happen to be "part of being in a big group of people." It is called considerationg for others around you. If you don't like it go to the ballet and enjoy your orange juice at intermission. It's a freaking baseball game, what did you expect?
  16. QUOTE(Jabroni @ Apr 21, 2005 -> 01:54 AM) Good point. Dye had a huge game last night so we should see if he can keep it up instead of benching him. He's 2 for 10 against Bonderman, small sample but he's not dominated. After his day off earlier in the week, I see no reason not to play him.
  17. QUOTE(NUKE_CLEVELAND @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 08:59 PM) I havent lived in Chicago since 1998. Everywhere I've been since when people find out I'm from Chicago they ask me "Are you a Cubs fan?". I hate that s***!!! It pisses me off that this bunch of overhyped, choking, whiny BIATCHES gets so much publicity. I always answer them no, I'm hetero.
  18. Tonight was a good example of the team behind the pitcher making him better. The Sox made the plays. Compare to Ledezma, he should have been out of the 1st with no runs and 9 pitches, instead he goes down 3-0 and throws 33. This is what used to happen to Garland all the time.
  19. QUOTE(Punch and Judy Garland @ Apr 20, 2005 -> 08:24 PM) Just happened one minute ago. WORST CASE-torn groin If he wasn't pulling on it so hard he wouldn't have torn it. Screw the cubs, I hope they all go down.

    Excel Help

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 13, 2005 -> 01:00 AM) There's gotta be somebody around here with better knowledge of Excel than me. -- The only time I've ever really had to use it was '97 for a EE class that was mostly on, get this, FORTRAN. So anyway, I've got a large table of data (26x175)... How do I pin the column headings so that when I scroll down to the bottom of the data, the headings stay fixed at the top of my screen? I didn't know how to even begin to phrase this question to get the right answer through the Micro$oft help or other websites. Select the left most cell in the first row below the headings. From the tool bar select Window > Freeze Panes. Ta da. If you choose, you can select a column to the right, it will freeze both columns and rows. Undo is Window > Unfreeze Panes
  21. QUOTE(YASNY @ Apr 11, 2005 -> 08:33 AM) You have a point. But then again, we didn't play good baseball thoughout the game. Crede's stumble hurt, though that kind of things happen. Buehrle slipped on that turf as well, and kept him from getting a lead runner, even though he didn't score. PK not getting the runner home from third with only 1 out. AJ losing that pop up in his former home stadium seems a bit on the bizarre side and Politte dropping that pop up didn't help any. Then you have Politte not holding the runner on, and allowing him to waltz into 2b with a SB. All those little things add up, as we saw with Hunter's HR. We've been playing good, solid baseball but last night we didn't and we lost. We might have been able to take that game if we had executed better. A very good post. This team has a small margin between winning and losing. They have to do almost everything right to win.

    MONKEYS!!!

QUOTE(Hall of Famer @ Apr 11, 2005 -> 07:51 PM) Here's to the lizard, one of the most underrated and underused icon here at Soxtalk. I thought it was a gecko. Y'know the Aflack gecko?
  23. QUOTE(LosMediasBlancas @ Apr 11, 2005 -> 08:45 AM) Just curious, what is Hunter's batting average against the Sox and what is it against all other teams? Using ESPN last 3 year splits: All Teams: .270 White Sox: .263 HPB: 17 (Clev 4, CHW 3, 3 teams @ 2)
  24. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ Apr 10, 2005 -> 04:11 PM) Without question it's C Lee. I witnessed his talent as a CubKilla in person both at the Cell & at Wrigley. I will always think of Carlos when they play the chi-town series. He also took out Todd Walker today, a boost in my estimation.
  25. Dye is 4 for 27 (.148) vs Radke, Timo is now 4 for 13 (.308). So last night's move made a lot of sense. Podsednik is 1 for 6 (.167) vs Santana. Ozuna has never faced him. This one looks like more like protecting Pods from a killer lefty while getting Ozuna some ABs. If Santana gets out of the game look for Pods to come in moving Ozu to 3B.
