QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 15, 2005 -> 09:30 PM) There goes Neal's no-no. Cancel the post game show. 3 inning save? -

Ron Santo was by far the most inept short termer in the history of the Chcago White Sox. He hit .221 and made 6 errors in 39 appearances at 2b.

I can't find him either and assume he's retired. Between 1871 and the end of last season there have been 14,733 major league baseball players with an at bat. You can query any of them at Baseball Refrence. Kelly Dransfeldt is one of them, are you? As 'bad' or 'turd' as some of you guys want to label him, he accomplished something that has been the dreams of millions on millions but very few have done. He was a Major League Baseball Player. I'd give my left nut to be able to say that (and dissolve my right one with steroids, if that's what it took).
-
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 10:12 PM) I love watching Pods play the game. He is the major league player that I always dreamed about being while playing little league. You couldn't hit either, eh?

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 09:47 PM) They've seen the light. They'll have room to move after this season when they stop paying Preston Wilson and Denny Neagle IIRC. That's around $20 million in payroll freed up. Rebuild with the young guys and invest in YOUNG pitching. That was supposedly Francis' worst outing of the season at Coors but he still fought like a tiger all night. Glad we didn't catch him on a good night. Gutzy 24 year old left hander.

QUOTE(robin_ventura_eternal @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 09:34 PM) poor rockies fans. they might as well cheer for the sox, the rockies are just so downright horrible this year. I hear ya but theres a couple good looking young players on the Rox, I hope they stick it out and build with these guys and Clint Hurdle. I think that franchise hurt itself in the past by trading everybody every couple years. Keep the good parts and keep add guys who are better as opprortunities come, one step at a time.

The papers say Frank got a standing O, even from the Rox fans.

QUOTE(mmmmmbeeer @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 09:14 PM) I love the Pods pickup, although I wish we could have gotten it done without giving up El Caballo. Incidentally, with all this talk about avg with RISP, Caballo is leading all of MLB in RBI with 55 going into tonight. I agree you could have gotten Pods for less, but it wasn't a one for one. Vizcaino and the ton of budget that turned into El Duke need to be considered. To compare speeders and bashers I like to use total bases + steals - caught steals because if the basher hits a double or more he doesn't HAVE to steal 2nd. CLee 132 + 7 - 1 = 138 Pods 62 + 31 - 9 = 84 Carlos is an offensive force, the White Sox gave up a lot to get they guys above and the trade helped both teams.

QUOTE(doUrememberwhen @ Jun 9, 2005 -> 04:37 PM) his 3rd base fielding skills r okay but i would much rather see juan there and Pabs at ss. There was some speculation in the chat room that Uribi's arm is hurting. Just based on him lobbing a couple throws instead of his usual cannon shots. Maybe nothing to it. As to Zoomer -he had an awful day. But between ST and the early season, we've seen him make all these plays before so it's not like he can't do it. He just had a very bad day. Good thing he got some hits.

QUOTE(SoIL @ Jun 8, 2005 -> 04:17 PM) Does anyone know if Everett can/has played first base? That would seem like a plausible solution. Have him start taking ground balls. I've had the same thought, it would seem a natural progression and it would solve a lot of problems. He's never logged an inning there in the bigs. I would think they could find out during pregame infield if he has a chance but have never heard a peep about it --positive or negative. Any early birds ever see Carl take infield? Just don't do what they did to Timo, send him out there without even breaking in his glove.

These west coast games are going to kill me. Waiting around, I snatched RetroSheet's game logs into a dB and queried for the Sox on this date since 1990. Some of these line ups are wild, the number next to the player is his position. It looks OK in preview, I hope it still does after I post it. QUOTE(sox-r-us @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 01:27 AM) I could not believe how many folks were saying before the game that Freddie was going to get his ass kicked in Coors if he threw his off speed stuff. Well, as it turns out, he threw a 2 hitter despite throwing tons of off speed stuff. Just a reminder of how little fans really know Predict Contreras for us, sox-r-us. I say 5 ER in 5 in but he gets the win as Kim gets slaughtered.

QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 7, 2005 -> 05:21 AM) Umm. No. He knows what he is talking about. Old Comiskey Park used to rock to the Go Go chant. I can still hear it .... Aparicio takes his lead off first .... and the crowd "Go Go Go Go Go Go" It's a great chant, you don't need a guitar, it has a good beat and the words are easy to remember...
-
QUOTE(Texsox @ Jun 6, 2005 -> 07:19 PM) It was right at Division and the Kennedy so it was right on my way home. No wonder you moved to Texas.

In all the miles of posts about how to use Thomas and Everett on the NL swing, I'm surprized no one has mentioned that this could be a great advantage for the White Sox. Two, count them, two top quality pinch hitters for the pitchers spot. Does anyone in the whole NL have two pinch hitters as good as Frank and Carl? If things fall into place the Sox will be playing an AL type line up vs an NL line up in the latter innings.
-
I thought it was a good post by Juggernaut. I kid him as much as anyone about the cryptic stats but for the most part I agree with his reasoning.
-
At Wednesday’s game, when Podsednik got on my brother started the Go-Go chant. I joined in but was surprised that nobody else did. There was a day when old Comisky thundered with it. When a Sox base runner took his lead, the crowd would chant GO…GO…GO... as the pitcher went into his stretch. Now that I think about it, Go-Go was popular long before most of the crowd was even born. Sox-Talk is an eclectic group, I wonder if any of you have any idea what I’m talking about. I’d love to see the chant come back.

The question of playing time is in Frank's own hands. If he hits, and hits for power, he will DH everyday and Everett will spot in the outfield. If Frank doesn't show any power then Ozzie will spot him according to match ups, using Everett the rest of the time. No reason for any angst, the players will decide it with their bats. In the near term, from now to the 4th of July, this is a good opportunity to get Everett healthy again (hands, groin), while Frank's situation works it way out.
-
QUOTE(beck72 @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 07:37 AM) Everett getting dealt makes the most sense. He's relatively cheap, and has proved he's healthy. Ana. really needs a DH. With their depth,[in AAA and on their MLB roster] the sox could use any number of their guys ATL may be another decent option. Plus he can trade prospects for him again next year.

QUOTE(Texsox @ Jun 5, 2005 -> 07:10 AM) I'd wait to see who has the hot arm in October. We have 5 very good starting pitchers this season. Anyone could be on a 10-0 run heading into a post season appearance. I do see Mark in game 1, after that, anything could make sense then. You got it right, Texsox, Ozzie will need to look for his Josh Beckett. He was like 9-8 going into the playoffs but he got hot and McKeon rode him all the way to the championship. In June you can't predict who [if anyone] will be the man in October.

Another one, this from MLB.com
