  1. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 9, 2005 -> 09:06 PM) If he pitches that way in USCF, I'll take it... Avoid the walks, Pitch to contact. The hits will come down, they had a bunch of INF hits. He'll get a bunch of DP balls to get him out of jams. The infield at the Baggie had alot to do with that hit total, plus he was all over the plate tonight. The metrodome had 17% more singles than league average last season. Rooney called it Arena Baseball after one their high choppers went through. Apt.

    Great Omen

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 9, 2005 -> 10:14 AM) The past three seasons the winner of the opening game of the opening series between the Twins and the Sox has gone on to win the division. Ha!

    Thoughts

Just looked out the window to the east and, lo and behold, the sun came up! After yesterdays game and reading all these posts I was sure the world was going to end. -but I guess they will play the rest of the season anyway. Beat them Twins tonight!
  5. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2004 @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 08:25 PM) Especially against an offense as potent as Cleveland's. But like somenbody mentioned earlier, we know Garica and Buerhle will be solid. Time to see what the rest of the rotation looks like. Crosses fingers. 4/7 Probables: C. Lee Vs Contreras Lets find out.

  8. QUOTE(Queen Prawn @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 08:14 AM) If I had speakers/sound card at work, I'd get it in a heartbeat. If it has a CD drive it should have a headphone jack. I think it would work, with like walkman headphones, even without a sound card. Someone who knows more about computers than I please check me. You could always try it out on one links in this thread first.

    2 Spot

I feel sending Iguchi in with a mission to accomplish will let him help the team at the same time he's seeing all these pitchers for the first time.

    2 Spot

I had a friendly argument, with a Sox fan I respect very much, about whether Iguchi or Rowand should be batting 2 in the line up right now. Basically he wants Rowand at 2 because he thinks Aaron is a more accomplished hitter, and better hitters higher in the order = more runs. Says Iguchi may someday become accomplished but he would drop him low in the order until he adjusts to the bigs from Japan. My argument, and this is what I want to hear your comments on, is that the two spot lets Tadahito help the team even while he is adjusting. I think making contact to the right side of the infield and getting down bunts takes less knowledge of the opposing pitchers than say the 7th hole. He thought I was crazy, I thought I was right. The two are not mutually exclusive but I’ve been thinking about it all day and wanted to bounce if off of y’all.
  11. QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 6, 2005 -> 06:12 PM) Wow 24-7 is incredible. I would have never guessed it. Especially since we were under our pythagaron wins number again last year. The pythagaron is skewed by all the 14-3 games. I've long held a theory that if you had a baseball team where everybody just did their job, no heroics or bonehead plays, you'd be tough to beat. Today there were some heroics and when you add them to good basic baseball you win.
  12. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 12:03 PM) Good point. Put St. Louis down for 95-67 instead of 92-70. I think that the Braves will finish a few games ahead of the Marlins on the strength of their bullpen. NL east looks like a dog fight, bro. Marlins 1 up but its a long season.
  13. QUOTE(3E8 @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 07:02 PM) I think we won a 1-0 last year on getaway day in Minnesota. It completed a road sweep. Garland pitched 7 scoreless innings and it was his best outing of the year IMO. For the record, in 04 the Sox were Shut out 8 times. 0-13 when scoring 1 run 1-23 when scoring 2 runs this adds up to 1-44 in low scoring games.
  14. QUOTE(Brian @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 05:22 PM) I heard that Carmen was set for Sox pre/post but the station decided to make him a full time show host and probably sticking with Midday Show. Doing Midday and Sox would of been tough. Haven't heard Brian Dogin (sp?) but heard he needs work. Dolgin's going to be fine. Like other kids called up from the minors he will take some getting used to and will learn some things the hard way pretty fast. As much as I enjoyed Dave Wills, a new voice is refreshing. Brian told old pros Rooney & Devine Saturday morning that he wants to be a major league play by play man. They said at least two guys, Rooney and Wills, made it to the bigs from this job. So I guess if you can handle drunken Sox post game callers, you can handle the majors. I wish him well -and also Dave Wills.
  15. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Apr 5, 2005 -> 01:39 AM) AL EAST 1. NEW YORK 100-62 2. BOSTON 90-72 3. BALTIMORE 75-87 4. TORONTO 71-91 5. TAMPA BAY 70-92 AL CENTRAL 1. CHICAGO 87-75 2. NEW YORK 83-79 4. PHILADELPHIA 79-83 5. WASHINGTON 68-94 NL CENTRAL 1. ST. LOUIS 92-70 2. CHICAGO 87-75 3. HOUSTON 85-77 4. CINCINATTI 74-88 5. MILWAUKEE 74-88 6. PITTSBURGH 72-90 NL WEST 1. SAN DIEGO 84-78 2. LOS ANGELES 83-79 3. SAN FRANCISCO 79-83 4. ARIZONA 77-85 5. COLORADO 76-86 This is anal, but it totals 2427-2433. Total games is right but some team must be pretty bad for the majors to be 6 under in total. Call me an arse with a parse. Flip Florida with the Braves, and the grubs with Pittsburgh, I agree with the others.
  16. QUOTE(3E8 @ Apr 4, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) 1/3 Mariners lineup former white sox. Reed Olivo Valdez They went a combined 0 for 10. Just one game though.
  17. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Apr 3, 2005 -> 09:31 AM) On a side note how cool would it be for a minor leaguer to get a meal bought for them by the greatest player to ever wear the White Sox uniform. You can say that again.
  18. QUOTE(hi8is @ Mar 27, 2005 -> 02:03 AM) durring mondays game at home, ill be doing something "special" that will gauarnte me to be on TV for those of you who have a tv card in your computer, please record, as i want a record of this soon to be 15 seconds of fame. gracsis amigos until then, specualte as to how ill make an ass (or hero) out of myself peace -t I didn't hear anything more about this hi8is. Now that the White Sox are safely many many miles away, could you share your plot, and what happened? That’s assuming you're not in jail.
  19. QUOTE(TLAK @ Apr 1, 2005 -> 06:40 AM) I hope the cub lose 120 games and that pitcher (is it Wood or Pryer?) loses 20, assuming he makes 20 starts. Put that picture on cubprattle not SoxTalk. :fthecubs I just looked at the Calender, Duh!. You got me.
  20. QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 1, 2005 -> 06:31 AM) I just read the announcement and saw the banner I've been asking for a long time why we cannot have Cub fans here. Now that Boston won a world series, I want one for Chicago. If it means the Cubs, I'll cheer just as loud. Go Chicago!! I hope the cub lose 120 games and that pitcher (is it Wood or Pryer?) loses 20, assuming he makes 20 starts. Put that picture on cubprattle not SoxTalk. :fthecubs
  21. QUOTE(Kogs35 @ Mar 31, 2005 -> 12:59 PM) was widger on the yankees before and didnt he catch el duke if he was on the yakees? He was a Jankee in '02 so he was there at the same time. I'm not surprised Davis was cut, after the AJ signing I predicted Jamie Burke would beat him out, just based on what we saw last year. I think the domino’s for Widger sticking started falling with Pablo Ozuna’s fine play at third, devaluing Burke’s strength of versatility. Ross Gload was already ahead of him at 1B of OF. So it got down to a simple RH catcher race with Widger playing better then either Davis or Burke behind the plate (despite Davis’ overblown rep), and showing more pop in his bat. That said, none of these guys are anything more than fringe players.
  22. QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Mar 29, 2005 -> 07:59 PM) Maybe this just went totally over my head but how on earth is Big Frank doing a rehab assignment selfish. I don't hear him complaining about it. What on earth am I missing. Nothing has actually happened yet except that KW thinks Frank should go to the minors for rehab and Frank hasn't committed to anything. I'm just speculating how the pundits will play it -and challenging folks to form an opinion without hearing their take first.
  23. This is from the Daily Herald article by Scot Gregor that Rotoworld quoted: This might be the next ‘Big Hurt’ controversy, with Marioti and his ilk calling him selfish again. I think HOF bound Frank Thomas should be respected enough to judge for himself whether he wants at bats in AAA or jumps right back into the soup. Every time someone has argued with him on a fitness issue -like Jerry Manual over his ankle, or KW about being a decoy (when he couldn't even walk)- Frank has been proven right all along. Pompous Tsar KW should thank God everyday that he inherited the big hurt and not presume to tell him what to do.
  24. I see Jason didn't make the Tigers, do they really have 11 guys better than him?
  25. Carmen DeFalco is with Hawk today. He did a good job on the pre-game run down, if he smiled any bigger for the camera his ears would touch behind his head.
