  1. QUOTE(doUrememberwhen @ May 9, 2005 -> 12:44 AM) Ah... so i havent smoked myself completely retarded Everybody's right. They originally called it 3 earned and on the radio Farmer went through the inning in detail to show it should have been 2. Said he would talk to the scorer but they changed it to 2 before he got there. Being right on the earned run and smoking yourself retarded are not mutually exclusive. Look at Farmer, case closed.
  2. QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ May 8, 2005 -> 10:35 AM) Dick Allen. Who did we trade to get Dick Allen? Tommy John How did the White Sox acquire Tommy John?
  3. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 8, 2005 -> 07:12 AM) Who did we trade for Tony Graffanino? Dar-tanyon Sturtze Name the last White Sox MVP prior to Frank Thomas.
  4. QUOTE(JUGGERNAUT @ May 7, 2005 -> 10:42 AM) My life long dream has always been for the White Sox to sweep the Flubs in the World Series. I don't ever want to see the blue vermin in the Series, even against the White Sox. I hope they continue to lose every single game left in the season, and the stupider they do it the better.

    El Duque

QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ May 7, 2005 -> 10:05 AM) El Duque's Pitch Counts: Start one: 104 Start two: 97 Start 3: 96 Start 4: 111 Start 5: 118 Start 6: 116 Average is 107, but the last 3 games would be a heavy load trend. But keep in mind how much rest the Sox are giving all the pitchers. El Duque has gone on the 5th day only twice, 6 on his other starts.
  6. QUOTE(YASNY @ May 7, 2005 -> 08:06 AM) 90 is not going to be enough. Since divisional play and disregarding strike years, the average playoff team won 95 1/2 games, roughly 28 over .500. The Sox are 15 over now so need to climb another 13 during the next 5 months. To get there would take a 73 - 60 record, a .549 clip. This is possible. Not a lock but well within this teams capability. Don't ice the Champagne yet but you might want to keep an eye on the ads for a good sale on Korbel. Just in case.
  7. I have a theory on why Maryotti, Kruk, Reynolds, Phillips etal don’t know what to make of the White Sox. They really don’t report on baseball, they report on baseball stars. Sort of like these ‘People’ celebrity shows. They tell you everything about an actress’s private life and her gowns but nothing about her work. Garland’s performance has been remarkable, Iguchi’s start is certainly of interest but, on the whole, this is a group of players that are just doing their job everyday. The Sox winning run might come on a ground out in the 5th. They win the game by relentlessly making the plays for 9 innings. ESPN focuses on hero plays, like a walk off homer, to exclusion of the rest of the game. The strength of these White Sox is the rest of the game. Very good baseball, but not so good as a video clip. There is just not a lot of glitter to this team for these guys to grab hold of. No one play where a writer can wax poetic on a given player’s moral fiber. The media doesn’t know how to write about this or condense it into a 20-second clip. So they either skip the Sox or talk about Ozzie. With the White Sox the team is the star, not a couple of guys.
  8. QUOTE(El Piervizdyeguchansodnik @ May 6, 2005 -> 10:38 PM) Can anyone explain to me what was wrong with the batters box today? And also what happened in CF later in the game that Rooney and Farmio were pissed over? I was at work today and got to listen to the game a bit but have no idea what happened. The batters boxes looked like a thin layer of sand over concrete. They came out with heavy rakes and could barely scratch the surface ... terrible. When a batter tried to push off his spikes would just slide across the concrete like a cup car up in the 'marbles'. A fan ran out on the field somewhere around 1st base. It wasn't on TV but I guess he just stood near the coach’s box and was cheer leading. Security got hold of him and rather than taking him out near the dugout, leisurely walked him along the warning track to an exit in center field. The amble took several minutes and the players had to just stand around watching. At US Cellular security can beat the s*** out of a guy and make him disappear in under a minute. Like the grounds keeping, the cops were minor league.
  9. What happened with Willie Harris? I read Ozzie’s comments about family, I think I heard that his mom passed away and I saw someone post he will be back Monday. Does anyone have the full story or is it just none of our business (which I can accept). Its always tragic to lose your mom (mine’s gone too), but I hope there was nothing bizarre to the story which can really screw a guy up. I guess I’m just being nosy. My condolences and prayers are with Willie and the Harris family.
  10. QUOTE(Steff @ May 4, 2005 -> 05:12 AM) We got to get into the park a little after 5 yesterday and got to see Frank hitting... He was placing the ball all over the field with solid hits.. hitting several just short of the wall. Ran a bit as well. Looked good. Claims he feels no pain just a bit of stiffness. Positive news IMO. Great post, thanks for the info. I've been watching the media for somebody to report how he looks but just get the 'party line'. You've seen him when he looks great and also when he looks bad over the years so I'm very encouraged you're positive. This team really needs Frank in the mix.
  11. Marty Foster is behind the plate today. He is second in the league in strike % and leads in K per 9 innings. Look for a fast game, he makes guys swing the bat + #56 is on the mound. Thanks again to GHC for the umpire stat link last year-I use it all the time.
  12. QUOTE(JimH @ May 2, 2005 -> 07:10 PM) I think he's already been thru one of these, and his current problems are shoulder vs. elbow. But your point is well taken, it's not out of bounds to think some kind of surgery is on the horizon for this guy. He won't be pitching vs. the White Sox at Wrigley Field later this month, that's for sure. Further, I doubt he'll pitch against the Sox in late June either. This has been an ongoing problem with him for a while, and I suspect it's longer than either Wood or the Cubs have let on. Maybe he can get you a deal on a Chevy?
  13. QUOTE(Winnin Ugly @ May 2, 2005 -> 06:06 PM) I would trade Uribe for Jimmy Rollins.. Have read that the Phillies arent to happy with him Jimmy Rollins is a hell of a ball player. All you'd have to do is teach Ozzie how to spell his name and you're set at shortstop for years to come. He's that good.
  14. QUOTE(Wedge @ May 2, 2005 -> 06:07 PM) The best thing about Garland is that as far as I can remember he has never had an injury and certainly does not have the nagging injuries that a guy like El Duque has had a history of. If Garland comes "back to earth" as predicted by just about everybody, it will most likely result from him losing some of his command/location or his seeming newfound ability to pitch out of jams. He has had a very healthy career (knock on wood) and health should not be an issue with him. There was a comparison the other day of Garland to Loiaza in terms of being two pitchers that started out a season like gang-busters. I think the two scenarios are fairly different in Garland's favor. If you recall, that season Loiaza added a new pitch (the cutter) which he could locate incredibly. Once the league caught on to this, his numbers began resemebling those he had established over his career. It seems that Garland is benefitting from two good game calling catchers and from some lessons he's learned by watching Buehrle pitch in terms of throwing strikes and working out of jams. My prediction is that he ends up winning 20 with an ERA around 2.50. There is a thin line between Jon the great, and Jon the Judy. He was on the verge the last couple seasons but would give up one or two big hits in key situations. Yesterday, he started the 5th giving up consecutive singles. Then he gets a deep fly to center (Higginson hitting .087) and liner to 2nd (Martinez .200) before he K's the 9 hitter (Smith .150). Not taking anything away from him, but if either of those balls fall in this would be a very different thread. Some of his nice start is luck, I hope it continues.
  15. QUOTE(Al Lopez's Ghost @ May 2, 2005 -> 06:53 AM) The first time I heard this line of thought was from Tony La Russa, a few years ago. I think he used win 50 lose 50 and 62 others. My reaction was that it was typical Tony crap, in that it sounds deep and means nothing. If you say so what to it, you realize that there's no meaning to it. Saturday's game - we came from behind to win. Was that a game we were always gonna win - one of the win 50 or 60? Or was it one of the third category? And who gets to say which it was? It's just goofy. The moral of the adage is that teams shouldn't get too high over wins or too low over loses. Its a convienent way to put a tough game like the last one in Oakland behind you, and don't get cocky after a game like yesterday. Keep your eye on on Tuesday, its the only game you do anything about. Another one I like: You're never as good as you look when winnnig or as bad as you look when losing. We saw both sides of this one last week too.
  16. QUOTE(AirScott @ May 1, 2005 -> 03:24 PM) Hawk and DJ have been talking about "the other 42," saying you're guarunteed 60 wins and 60 losses, but last year the Royals won 58 and the D'Backs won 51, and in 2003 the Tigers won 43. plus, in 2001, the Mariners lost 46, so shouldn't they change it to the other 72 or 82? Since 1962 when baseball adopted the 162 schedule, and discounting strike years, the average team has won 80.835 games per year (rainouts). 1 sigma = 11.62484. So DJ should really say 'Hawk, your gonna win 46.12548 games and lose 46.12548 games. Its the other 69.74904 games that matter". Hawk could then say 'Yer durn tooten, partner, thats the best I've ever seen".

QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ May 1, 2005 -> 10:54 AM) Dye is horrible....he needs to get out of this big-ass slump, NOW! Dye has always been streaky. This chart shows his BA last year with Oakland, the dark blue is his cummulative season, the purple is week by week starting on Sundays. He's like the little girl with curl, when he's good he's very good and when he's bad he's terrible. This was talked about when they signed him, I think it was SS2K5? Dye may indeed end up with very good numbers but he is not the day in day out offensive force that Mags was. You can pound on him for missing the cut off man, and dropping that ball in Oakland, but you get what you get with him at the plate. The way to get him out of his slump is to get him over the flu and play him everyday.

    Through last night's game:
  19. Could quite get your rhyme scheme but here's a stab (all in fun) My name is poster farmteam I post on SoxTalk com I like a writin’ lyrics to the music in my brain I know you can not hear it The words is all you read But that don’t stop me from singin’ along With the voices in my head
  20. Going back to Buehrle's game, he came apart after the umps warned both benches when Harden hit Everett. I can't put my finger on it, but I remember him often having trouble after warnings are out. I want to say once against Minny and then against the Indians. Any one remember Marks' history after warnings?
  21. I guess those umps are geat mind readers. Oakland hit 5 batters (one after a warning) but nobody gets tossed. The vibes must have said it was unintentional. Then Crede gets hit and the ump just knows he was leaning into it.
