  2. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 02:38 PM) Saban likes Campbell and Frye a lot too, no? I have read that, and that is why they are trying to get the Surtain deal done, or trying to talk Tampa into trading up. So basically any of the second tier QBs could and probably will be headed to Miami. If Rodgers goes #1 Miami will take Smith or trade im almost 100% positive on this..

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 11:31 AM) http://www.5atexasfootball.com/ Just for one division. And if a School Board ever allowed their HS to drop below 5A, they would be voted out My understanding is Indiana basketball is very close to this madness. Speaking of that site, if you go to the Greatest Games of 2000's Soxtalks own holds a place in history.. 2002 Regular Season, Non-District: Katy 37 Humble 36 (OT) Humble came into this game ranked #1 in the state (They were also #9 in the Nation), and sporting a 1-0 record. Katy jumped out to a 17-7 lead before Humble closed the gap in the 4th quarter to send the game to overtime. The Wildcats took a 36-29 lead in overtime, and Katy took the field. The Tigers came within one point after answering Humble's score, but elected to go for two, and the win, instead of tie with an extra point. Katy ran an option play and with a one handed catch on the pitch, Carl Slack (Me) outraced Wildcat defenders to the corner pylon for the game winning conversion. another Interesting thing about that, Humble went on to go 9 - 1 and we played them again in the playoffs and beat them like 27 - 7.. How bad would that suck, your #1 in the State and Nationally ranked and you go 10 - 2 and lose to the same team twice

QUOTE(kapkomet @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 11:14 AM) Yep. That's the only game that they have lost in three years now. Pretty amazing for Texas, at least from what I know of it. Yeah when I was a senior we lost to Smithson Valley in the Semi Finals game, I think it was 24 - 20 if we would have won we would have played Southlake in the Title game.. What luck for me.. We win a state title in 2000.. I was on varsity 2001 and 2002 we didnt win, and the very next year after I graduate they win the State Title..

QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 11:21 AM) Wow.. just wow. But like you and TRU said.. it's a way of life. I guess if I lived there or saw it first hand I wouldn't be so shocked by it. Do you guys have any idea what the % of HS players that go on to the pros is..? Not too sure but Eric Heitmann (Starting G for the 49ers) went to Katy High School, Ive only talked to him a couple times but I think I was a Freshman when he was a Senior

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 11:02 AM) All i want to say about the story of Friday Night Lights is that it is awesome. I read the book many years before the movie came out, and the book is flat-out awesome. Steff, i know you probly won't wanna waste time reading the book now, but the book does the team and town more justice than the movie does. The movie is a bit juiced up. But overall the story is a great one IMO, and yes it's true. HS football is a HUGE deal in Texas. To anyone who saw the movie and didn't appreciate it fully...i recommend the book if you have time. Yeah I have the book, never read it though.. I more of a movie guy than a reader

QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 10:55 AM) One other think I wanted to ask.. do you guys down there hire special coaches for football..? Up here (when I was in HS and we went to state) the football coach was the male PE teacher.. All of the football coaches were just football coaches.. they taught a regular class, but none of them were PE teachers.. Our head coach was the Athletic Director for the school and all he did was coach football and hang around the field house all day.. The coaches are serious business, they are always trying to bring in the best guys and what not.. its not just the PE coach from the Junior High moving up a level..

This is the best picture I could find of the stadium, the seats across the field are empty pretty much because its a team from Houston, and the seats close are another team in our district.. The Stadium is like in a horshoe shape, with the open end leading to the field house.. I never got to play on that new turf, we had the old s*** that I still have scars from sliding across it and getting burns

QUOTE(Texsox @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 10:30 AM) How many regular season games sell out, in advance, in Chicago? Games in our 8,000 seat stadium regularly sell out. The local news will lead with HS Football, ahead of Cowboys, Texans, and any other sports highlights. The local stations will all have cameras at the top half dozen games, the local sports radio station has part time reporters at every area High School game, that's 20-25 games with live updates. McAllen has a population if 125,000 and 3 HS. We aren't nearly as crazy as some of the middle of nowhere towns with small populations. It's crazy fun. Yeah where I live they just put up the 5th 5A High School..

QUOTE(tonyho7476 @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 10:08 AM) Texas football is a whole different animal. I've never lived there, but I've heard and seen plenty about it. These people eat, live and breath this s***. Right you are my man, and coming from the High School that I went to (Texas HS Football team of the 90's) I can tell you that football down here is above almost everything.. Now about that movie, it was completely false.. Yes, the story about Permian is true, but they way they depicted High School Football in Texas was all wrong.. There are no crazy ass wild parties with insane dads who come onto the field during practice and shove their son around.. If a player like Boobie Miles was on our team our coach would sit his ass out for the year and not even think about letting him touch the field if he had a knee injury like that.. For the most part, I think they just added a bunch of crap to make it interesting.. but the school is real and the story of the team is real.. Just not what the players were doing and all that s***.. Anyways, Football down here is life.. For our normal regular season games I think we would draw at least 20,000+ per game.. When it came time for playoffs and we played in the Astrodome, there had to have been at least 30-40,000+ people there per game.. Parents who live in our community who dont even have kids on the team come to the games.. Kids in HS who dont play football even come to the games, and this is on a friday/saturday night when there could be plenty of other things to do than go watch your high school football team play.. its huge down here
  14. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 09:57 AM) Don't get me wrong.. I like the "Sox fans.. on your feet...." stuff.. but it doesn't consume me and I forget about it the minute the first pitch is thrown. I didn't even remember that Thurderstruck was missing from opening day... I missed Dave's "neeexxxtttttt" more. Well at the Astros games they just have the train go off and then there is music playing in the background and they put the players picture on the screen and just say name pos. and batting order.. and then its on to the game.. I dont really care too much about intros, just wanna see the game.. thats what matters the most
  15. Ill be watching the game on CBSSportsline as usual I wish there were more WGN games
  16. QUOTE(Steff @ Apr 18, 2005 -> 07:06 AM) So glad I only care about the wins and losses.. I would go absolutely batty if I worried about half the stupid crap complained about... Haha, I was just wondering the same thing... Intros?? I dont even know why they even have intros, this isnt professional wrestling..
  17. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 11:22 PM) That would be late 2nd round too...if he goes within the first 50 picks, that team pretty much has to be set everywhere else. I am thinking early 3rd, and I think it will be Arizona. Thats pretty much what im thinking too, IF Miami doesnt take him.. Thats a possibility
  18. My moms makes a bunch of snack food type things and I sit in front of the TV all day watching everything.. Oh yeah... Miami VS Chicago in the hall of fame game... Da Bears are goin DOWN!!
  19. QUOTE(nitetrain8601 @ Apr 17, 2005 -> 08:41 PM) I don't lose interest in it, but I've become too busy nowadays where I don't think about it. I used to be one of those guys who would anticipate a game release for months. Now I'm just, oh, Live is coming out tommorow, I think I'll pick up a copy. I try to PS2 whenever I can, but usually there's a conflict. That's why I've only gone through 3 seasons since winning my 7th WS championship in MVP. NCAA Football 2006 is coming, you can bet your ass I will be counting down the days till it is released and I will be there an hour early to pick up my copy like I have done for the past 5 years
  20. Nope, not bored... the game is real good
  21. I cant believe no one posted this one.. I couldnt find the original funny one from when he was on Oakland but damn, this is scary..
  22. 3-4 Round is where he will go.. If a team REALLY gets a hard on for him, 2nd round... but I think the 3rd round is more of a real situation for him..
