Yikes. At least it's not a shoulder problem. There's a good chance he bounces back fine, but this is why small market teams hesitate to spend on the draft. They can't afford to miss.

QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ Aug 13, 2010 -> 03:59 PM) I guess I'm higher on Escobar than most, but a 21 year old switch hitter that is holding his own in the Southern League is still pretty impressive. Escobar is one of my favorite prospects. If he can keep this AA performance up I'll probably slot him at 8 in our prospect rankings. AA is a huge barrier for hitters and if he passes it this quickly, it would really surprise me. The glove will play so the bat only needs to be average.

QUOTE (Bruce_Blixton @ Aug 13, 2010 -> 02:38 PM) Hi everyone, first let me thank all of you for forming such a comprehensive and detailed resource to keep up to date with the minor league system, it's one of the, if not THE best, fan-operated minor league forums around. So to you guys. Wanted to get your guy's opinion, with Escobar's sustained success so far in AA, would anyone else like to see him get a September call-up to get some one-on-one mentoring from Vizquel? I mean, what couldn't a slick fielding, switch-hitting SS learn from Omar, right? Welcome and that's a good question. I think Escobar's bat is so far from being Major League ready (even with the recent hot streak at AA). Escobar will likely be a non-roster invite next spring and that's when he can get his mentoring from Ozzie and if we still have Omar, him as well. I wouldn't call his success in AA sustained. He hasn't played 30 games yet. There's no rush with him, this is already beyond my most optimistic expectations of him.

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 10:30 PM) Escobar got his average up to .255 and that was vintage Stephen Sauer day pitching wise (last year's Sauer) with 0 walks. Escobar has surprised me by holding his own so far. I really expected awful, overmatched numbers when he got promoted. Nice to see Sauer do well. I really think that park is killing pitchers. Leesman is the first example. We'll have a bigger sample over the years, but that place is murder on pitchers.

QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 08:38 PM) I never should have watched that?!?! Are all their stomachs connected and they end in the last person thus making it where only the one on the end has to use the restroom?! ..I am really curious about this and I must know!! It's Google time! haha Yeah I looked it up on Wiki. The plot summary is more f***ed up than the trailer.

I had this comparison in my head and decided to back it up with stats. Turns out pretty similar. DLS was a little younger with a little better numbers, but Rienzo is having a damn fine season in a season where there haven't been many of those. Potential sleeper: Andre Rienzo

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 10:41 AM) I wonder why a 41st rounder would have taken so long. He was a basketball player at UC Santa Barbara. I wonder if he worked out a 2 sport deal. The Sox probably see him as a big project. -
Holmberg pitched against Great Falls again. 6 shutout innings.

Hawk rooting for wild pitches and for a booted ball is pretty unprofessional. Root for the Sox, not against the other team. -

Who wrote Sale's scouting report and said that arm angle is 3/4? He's damn near side arm. -

QUOTE (J.Reedfan8 @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 11:14 PM) Real impressed with him as well. I've said long ago he is one to watch and one I like keeping tabs on. Yeah, he had good stats from a decent D1 program. Looked like a solid 7th round pick. Phegley also has some good numbers when he is actually playing.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 08:12 PM) Did AJ at least limp off on his own power? Yeah, I don't think it's too serious. AJ was pissed like it might have been more serious, but it could have been a simple ankle turn basketball players have all the time. I've had a couple of those that were serious enough to be taken out of a game like AJ was.

Voyagers lost 6-3 Upchurch 7 IP, 2 R, 5 K, BB, 5 H Addison Reed 2 IP, 5 K. He's been relieving lately, but missed some time earlier. The Sox are probably limiting his innings. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 03:24 PM) Wish we could have seen Sale but saw another player bust out onto the scene of future stardom. I'm thinking we see Sale tomorrow. Putz, Jenks and Thornton all pitched the last two days. Putz is probably good to go because he only threw 2 pitches today, but Santos' 2 innings probably knock him out too. Add in that Baltimore sucks and the Sox could have a cushy lead, I'd bet Sale makes his debut tomorrow.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Aug 5, 2010 -> 02:56 PM) Bad things happen, hopefully the Sox dont subscribe to the doom and gloom of the board. Time to man up, keep the Tigers from scoring and then score some runs. Thankfully the Sox had extra runs and still have a chance. Yeah, I shouldn't be surprised by the reaction, but it's still tied. Santos' slider was nasty that inning. I'd be willing to send him out for the 11th.
