  1. QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 12:35 PM) .....or Missouri.... It wasn't me who anointed him "Chuck" . Someone else did, but who am I to argue? I just go to school in Missouri, I have no problem bashing the state. I'm in my college bubble for one more month. Besides, I could start pulling garbage jokes for the state of New Jersey. Quentin deserves a better nickname than Chuck.
  2. QUOTE (rangercal @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 12:19 PM) VOTE 4 CHUCK What is with this Chuck s***? Why Chuck? He is not a fat white 40-year-old living in Nebraska.
  3. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 09:58 PM) Am I the only one who thinks Q hasn't been super-duper this year? I know he has been awesome with the homers, but he is hitting .167 with 0 HRs and 2 RBIs with runner's in scoring position. He needs to improve that to be a god to me. Every time Quentin comes to the plate there is a runner in scoring position, him. Sorry, Chuck Norris jokes are the theme, I couldn't resist. QUOTE (whtsoxfan @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 11:04 PM) CQ is awesome, and it looks like he's gonna have another monster year. Thinking ahead though, I wonder what type of salary he's going to command when a new contract comes due, and if the Sox will meet his price? They sent Magglio, Carlos Lee, and others packing, so I wonder if CQ will be shipped off in the same manner eventually. I wouldn't throw Lee in the same category, he's not as good as the other 2. I think the Sox wanted to resign Maggs, but his injury seemed to be a big deal and they simply got outbid. I'm pretty sure the Sox will at least try to resign Quentin when that day comes.
  4. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 10:36 AM) Tracking 2 of my favorite overhyped Twins OFs: Delmon Young: .200/.226/.300, 9 K's in 30 AB's (Only XBH was against Buehrle on a wall scraping home rune) Carlos Gomez: .125/.176/.219 9 K's in 32 AB's 2/1 SB/CS What's awesome is the Twins paid for them at the hyped up values. QUOTE (lostfan @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 03:55 PM) I don't even know who really hypes Gomez, besides Hawk. Gomez was hyped. I think everyone currently realizes he sucks. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 06:19 PM) Porcello tears through the Mariners, continuing the Tigers' string of very decent starting pitching...only one ER (homer) in 7 IP. I was following that a bit on gameday and his movement and velocity on his sinker scared the s*** out of me. 92-94 on with good sink? s***. His control was on and maybe he won't be that consistent this year, but I picked him up in both of my fantasy leagues just in case. He has already given up 3 HR in 12 innings as compared to 7 in 125 IP in high-A last year though. Something to watch.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 09:11 PM) If Getz or Lillibridge had only 25-30 RBI's batting first, we could live with that. If you look at the type of the hitters we should have in front of BA....AJ, Ramirez, Fields...he will have quite a few chances to drive in runs over the course of a season. He has to be at least occasionally successful at that. Do you really believe BA would be an asset on this team with a sub 700 OPS and 8-12 homers and 40 RBI's? We might be able to survive that (like the first half of 2006), but he would still be in danger of losing his job. An inarguably better player, Aaron Rowand, was constantly doubted by KW. There's no reason to think that would change with those type of numbers. Sure, if he hits 20-25 homers with 60-75 RBI's, you will never hear me say a bad thing about him (by the way, those are numbers that Uribe reached every year from 2004-2007), but only time can tell. People were constantly trying to get rid of Uribe over the last 3 years, and he was a Gold Glove-caliber defender, so if Brian's numbers are similar to Uribe's, KW will try to replace him. First off, Ramirez has been awful so you can't use that argument right now. I'm sure he'll bounce back, but you are complaining about 0 RBI from Brian when the guy that is right in front of him in the lineup hasn't done anything. And, yes, I believe a player with a .400+ OBP is an asset to any team. Anderson has scored 5 runs in the last 4 games. He's been valuable despite not meeting your OPS requirement. Quit playing the race card. I liked Uribe and I like Anderson.
  6. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 04:37 PM) BA has started 5 games for the Sox this year: .333 BA 18 AB 6 H 5 R 3 BB 3 K .500 OBP He has 6 starts including today's effort. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 06:27 PM) He has to get his OPS to 740 to be an effective player for us, that's not unreasonable to expect. Second, he has to start driving in runners (at least occasionally) when they're in scoring position, which he hasn't done (he did hit the ball hard but AJ couldn't score from 2nd last night). Right now he's at 701. As long as he's in that 720-760 range, then I'll never have any complaints about Anderson because of his defensive abilities. DeWayne Wise had a .385 SLG percentage after being taken out of the starting line-up...Brian is still struggling to get close to .300. Anderson is the 9 hitter. 9 hitters don't drive in runners. I'm ecstatic he is getting on base at a superb rate. There is more value to that than slugging .385.
  7. QUOTE (Wanne @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 06:33 PM) I love being around DBack fans listening to them piss and moan about trading him! That's the argument I always have when I hear Sox fans b**** (a small few I think) about trading Young. DBack keep Carlos without Young IMO. Quentin > x5 Young Vazquez when he was with us was worth way more than Young.
  8. QUOTE (tommy @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 04:01 PM) Can someone dig up Brian's line since taking over at CF ? 5-18 (.278), 6 BB, 3 K, 5 R. .458 OBP, .736 OPS
  9. QUOTE (scenario @ Feb 3, 2009 -> 01:00 AM) And regarding his "not young for his league" comment. Law is either ignorant of the league average age in the minors or choses to ignore it. Because in 2007, when Flowers was 21, the league average age was... 21. And in 2008, of the 16 position players who played 10 or more games for Myrtle Beach, only 3 were younger than Flowers. So... Mr. Law... who are you crappin'? 21 wasn't young for the league. It's average age, like you said.
  10. Anderson is doing just fine right now. It's odd that he has no extra base hits, but his on base is above .400. Can't ask for more.
  11. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 03:28 PM) i remember reading that teammates at all levels have gotten on Quentin for being named Carlos but knowing no spanish Ha! That's hilarious.
  12. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 02:42 PM) Prediction...Anderson HR here. Or not. It would have been a homer at the "Little K" in Kansas City, though. Little K? 387 in the alleys and 410 to center. Not very little. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 03:09 PM) BA trailing .646 to Betemit's .669 OPS...Lillibridge almost up to 600. Anderson is rocking an OBP over .400. I'm ok with it.
  13. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 18, 2009 -> 07:59 PM) Buehrle with a lot of pitches. Looks like we might get Dotel for two innings tonight. I wouldn't mind giving Macdougal a scrub 9th (with a pretty quick hook) if the lead is still 5.
  14. Hawk called him "The Corkeroo." Wow, awesome and weird at the same time.
  15. QUOTE (shipps @ Apr 18, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) I was screaming everytime Tyrus took a shot....then followed by laughter. Yeah, his shot has gotten better but he was taking deep jumpers. Just odd that they kept going in. As for the Noah talk, I really liked what I saw sans 2 dumb fouls and not pulling the board that Rondo grabbed at the end of regulation.
  16. Salmons is freaking terrible. I'm so sick of his Larry Hughes caliber shot selection.
  17. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Apr 17, 2009 -> 08:20 PM) Good to see De Los Santos back on the mound. It's Frank, not Fautino.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 17, 2009 -> 10:45 AM) Baseball and Florida is something that will never really work IMO. It's not a baseball state. I wouldn't say it isn't a baseball state. It's an absolute hotbed for high school and college ball. The fans just don't go to MLB games and with those 2 stadiums, it's hard to blame them.
  19. It's just weird. I don't understand it really. I'm very surprised Penn State is offering this much money.
  20. I'm with Josh. Shirek is a guy that should do well through A-ball considering he came from the Big 12. He's on the older side of the level and has premium college experience. I'm not going to call a guy like that a prospect until he pitches well in AA.
  21. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 16, 2009 -> 04:39 PM) Gibson has great stuff, but considering he's probably a top 3 to 4 pitcher in the draft, i doubt he'll slip to us. I'm not sure I would put Gibson that high. He has a sick slider, but his fastball is still kinda straight. It has gotten a ton better this year though. I think in the range the Sox will be picking at it's ok, but top 10 for Gibson is pushing it IMO. The Sox are in a nice spot because they don't have any hitters they know they are locked into at a position for more than a few years. Sure, they have a lot of prospects but we don't know who is going to actually make it. The Sox can take the best available player and shouldn't worry about hitter/pitcher or what position they play.
  22. Kyle Gibson and Aaron Crow are in the draft as 2 power arms. Crow won't make it to the Sox, but Gibson might/should. Both are Missouri guys, Crow is a Boras guy but didn't sign last year with the Nats so he has less leverage.
  23. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 15, 2009 -> 08:02 PM) FWIW, Derek Jeter had 56 errors in the summer of 1993 for the Greensboro Bats. Yeah and he sucks at defense.
  24. QUOTE (jenks45monster @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 04:38 PM) You guys need to let the Pods World Series memories go. No. QUOTE (BobDylan @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 05:29 PM) Why don't we stop sucking off that 2005 team? No.
  25. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 14, 2009 -> 12:23 PM) Cassel pitched AA last year and won the ERA crown. Unfortunately, he's on the Charlotte DL right now for reasons unknown. In a pitcher's with mediocre peripherals. He does have a major injury on his record. I'm not saying he isn't a prospect, but I'm not expecting him to do anything in the Majors.
