Twins (2-2) @ White Sox (1-2) 7:11pm CSN

You people are ridiculous. There was no one else on base and they would have gotten the guy if not for the balk call. Why complain about that rundown? -

QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 08:11 PM) Can only imagine with all the construction going on last year during games. They just shut down parts of the upper deck and the seats that wrap around the foul pole. Those seats weren't needed during the end of the season lol. -

I heart Josh. I'm expecting a big year out of him. -

I'm watching and didn't see what Anderson did. Please explain instead of saying "Anderson is hilarious." -
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 02:52 PM) Bor-ass was over the top IMO! I'm glad someone mentioned that. I thought he was faking to look good in the eyes of prospective clients to show that he cares. Sick to think this guy is trying to get a personal gain from this.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 10, 2009 -> 12:35 AM) Is it me or is this the most enthusiastic/exciting minor league game thread in Soxtalk history? LOL, that's what I was thinking. Good stuff though. Birmingham is going to be fun to track. 2 Ks in 4 ABs for Jordan Danks. He's a stud on D, but man those Ks are extremely scary.

Could all 5 Chicago teams make the playoffs?

Bears and Sox don't, Cubs do. -
The Official "Please Acquire Elijah Dukes" Thread

QUOTE (DBAHO @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 08:51 PM) Willits .391 OBP in 430 AB's in 2007 and Blanco's .366 OBP in 430 AB's in 2008 says otherwise. Exactly, I'll pass on Dukes. He won't come cheap enough for it to be worth the risk. I'd rather have Blanco or Willits. -
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 08:09 PM) First test of the new and improved Tigers' bullpen. Teehee. Brandon Lyons pulled a Farnsworth. Aaron Hill makes it 4-3 Jays after 8. Unfortunately, Ryan gave up a bomb to Inge and it's tied in the 9th. Edit: Didn't matter. Lyons blew it anyway. Tigers 0-2.

QUOTE (JustWin @ Apr 7, 2009 -> 10:30 AM) It's hard not to argue with Cubs fans. They do have a very good team and cub fans are just so cocky. I always say I won't let them get to me but the minute they start with their drivel it's hard to just not respond to it. Last year broke the backs of a lot of Cubs fans. I haven't seen nearly as many being cocky. Also, Bob Brenly: "Nothing like some scrambled eggs and Captain Morgan to get you ready for Opening Day." What?

Boom boom winna!

Sucks that Cook has to go to AA again. He clearly is too good for that level. It would be nice to let him get another look in AAA. I guess the Sox really want these prospects to win together.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 09:37 PM) I have a feeling this Tigers season might get ugly really quick Yeah, the Porcello and Perry callups pretty much told to me that their management knew that too.

QUOTE (Brian @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 06:02 PM) More of the same for the Cardinals. Man, that was beautiful. Why was Motte throwing a high fastball 0-2 anyway? Did he and Molina really think Major Leaguers couldn't catch up to 95? I couldn't write that script better if I tried.

One of my friends pointed me to minorleaguesplits.com having defensive ratings up now. I'm not sure how new this is, but it was new to me. We've had several questions about how well our prospects play defense and this is one way to evaluate. I'm not sure how accurate it is, but it's worth taking a look at. Beyond the Box Score compiled a list of the top prospects by position. Brandon Allen made the first base list (link) and rates above average (go figure, that's not what we've been told.) As for others, Gordon Beckham (link, click defense in the upper right) was apparently worth 4 runs, but it's a small sample size. Getz has been above average at 2B, below average at SS. Escobar was above average at SS. Silverio sucked hard at SS last season. Some good stuff. It will be interesting to see how Danks, Beckham and Viciedo rate out over a longer period of time. Obviously, these stats aren't perfect. One thing to note is that Minor League parks tend to be weirder so players can have drastically different home/away numbers. Either way, it's something to throw out there to try and get an idea of how good a player is defensively.

More evidence against signing FA 1/2/3 starters
danman31 replied to caulfield12's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 5, 2009 -> 06:47 PM) Maybe failure is "relative," but pitched at a lower level than expected or NOT making the contribution expected would be more fair to say. Just because the pitcher got paid more than $5 million doesn't mean he was expected to pitch as well as they did before the contract. If you sign a 30-something pitcher, a decline is expected. Also, that doesn't mean the pitcher didn't earn their income, even if they were better the season before. -

How does this mean they all failed? Generally pitchers are free agents in their later years so of course they are going to perform below what they did in previous years. That really showed nothing. -
First place b****es. C'mon UNC, give me the win.

That was a fun game to watch considering it was all about defense for Michigan State.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 09:09 PM) Marquez doesn't register? For me, I don't see why anyone thinks Marquez can pitch in the Majors. Nothing in his track record stands out. He has good control, but a mediocre K rate. If the Sox are lucky, he turns into a 5th starter. That's his upside.

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 3, 2009 -> 09:58 AM) Driving 2 hours each way, spending time/gas money and having the new found necessity of owning a working car 365 days a year didn't add up to anything but less time with your family/loved ones and more expenses for a bigger home which you were never at. What suburb is 2 hours from the city? Anyway, this whole suburban discussion is talking about all the wrong things. The real reason people move to the suburbs is because city schools more or less suck and suburban schools are much better. Families move out to the suburbs.

This is excellent because Altidore can't be benched now. Pretty funny that a guy who scored a hattrick against a team that was in the last World Cup can't buy a start on a second division club in Spain. Annoying.

I think that stuff is pretty common place in football though. -
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 01:42 PM) Please use a different source. Wikipedia should never be used to make a point. I could just go to that page, type in that Chicago is the frontrunner, and then post it somewhere else. Read the official report here. I got the link from Wiki and it's a good read. IMO, Tokyo will get it.

LOL Tigers. '08 first rounder Ryan Perry supposedly has a good chance at making the bullpen too. Poor Detroit. Nah, stratch that. F Detroit.
