  1. For those watching: what's the deal with that music they just played in between innings? I thought I was watching heavy metal or something.
  2. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 28, 2009 -> 05:35 PM) I take it that you don't have a family? Spending time with your family isn't supposed to be stressful. Spending time doing homework/studying is often very stressful and that constant grind could break and teenager. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 28, 2009 -> 05:59 PM) I remember exactly how it went. I did many of those things that you mentioned. Up at 6:30am, AP classes all day, 18 hour a week job after school, homework until 11pm. Music practices on the days that I wasn't at work. National Honor Society, Quizzing, Pep Band, Marching Band, Concert Band, Choir, Drama, Musicals, Band Camp in the summer, college prep crap, writing papers without computers, working in the school for the decoration committee. My point is, you're only adding around two hours of in-school time to the schedule. Those two hours can be learning/practicing/studying/writing hours, hours that would have been used for the same thing at home without a teacher around to help. This sounds great if days became 26 hours, but you're just taking the 2 hours from somewhere else. There is no more time in the day without driving more kids to drop out. Teachers wouldn't give 2 hours less homework so you can't just say 2 hours less of studying/writing hours.
  3. QUOTE (WSoxMatt @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 10:01 PM) Yes its the 5 story Royals Vision HD Scoreboard...ITS MASSIVE!!! It is really, really cool. I'm curious how the renovations at Kauffman will turn out. It was a pretty mediocre/poor ballpark.
  4. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 05:10 PM) Cole Aldrich is an incredibly improved player, bitterness over an ass kicking from a Mizzou fan be damned. I can't speak for his specific offensive moves, but he's a lot better this year. And, well.....Missouri IS overrated. You may have had an incredible home comeback against Kansas earlier this season because they fell asleep with a huge lead, but they are still the better team and Missouri is still overrated right now. Improvement and defensive prowess don't point to any offensive ability though. He is a poor man's Tyson Chandler. Where's Jimbo? Usually he would have talked random s*** by now to try to piss me off.
  5. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 02:32 PM) Sounds like the talk of a man who's team is getting taken to the woodshed. Watch Aldrich and tell me an offensive move he possesses. He gets open away from the ball when Collins or his teammates penetrate and find him. Also, Kansas' student section chanting overrated to a team that beat them earlier this season. Hilarious.
  6. Could Cole Aldrich have less offensive talent or is his only offensive ability being tall?
  7. QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 28, 2009 -> 05:03 PM) It would be longer classes, and a longer day. It's like that in college. Mon-W-Fr can be English for 1 1/2 hr, Science for 2 hours, History for 1 1/2 hr, Math for 1 1/2 hours, 1 hr gym, two 15 minute breaks, 1 30 minute lunch. Tu-Th can be electives. The earliest classes in college start at 8am. The longest non-lab class periods are 75 minutes. I had 90 minutes classes in high school with the block schedule, but it would have been impossible to have earlier classes and stay later. I was in sports broadcasting in high school and sometimes the out of school hours would consume an entire day. I would get done at 9 or 10 and go to bed not long after and still be sleep deprived having to wake up at 7am. The problem isn't the amount of hours, or the length of the school year. My high school was one of the highest rated in the state, mostly because the parents had money (but that's a different argument), and I feel confident in the quality of my education there. Compared to what a bunch of the other kids at school with me now had coming into college, I had a huge leg up. Like maggs said, if the teachers are good you will learn more and be prepared for college. Also, did he think about the kids in poorer economic situations that have to work to get by and the summer is their chance to make more money?
  8. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Feb 24, 2009 -> 05:45 PM) Also, it was weird that they kept referring to them as Mr. Richter and Mr. O'Brien. Yeah, I thought that too. Odd style.
  9. Missouri also beat Cal and USC out of conference. It's not like Xavier or Illinois are bad losses. The Xavier loss was at a tournament in Puerto Rico where the Musketeers beat Missouri, Virginia Tech and Memphis in 4 days. Going by your method of showing the Big Ten is good you have a Missouri team that went 12-2 out of conference .
  10. QUOTE (watchtower41 @ Feb 24, 2009 -> 02:16 PM) Sure it's still a bit early with some hoops yet to be played... but KU won themselves a #2 seed last night. Alderich is a BEAST that very few teams are gonna be able to match-up with. LOL a 2 seed? We aren't even in March and Kansas needs to beat Missouri and win the Big 12 Tournament for a 2 seed. Maybe just winning the tournament will do it, but I would have to think they are on the outside looking in for a 2 seed.
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 23, 2009 -> 10:05 PM) This game is why college basketball > anything Fixed.
  12. It's way easier to root for the Bulls right now. Sefolosha was painful to watch and it was hard to watch Hughes rot on the bench with a sizable contract. At least the new sizable contracts to rot won't be complaining about playing time.
  13. Opening Day. I just remembered Fresno State won the national title last year. Wow.
  14. Say it ain't so Joe. Say it ain't so. I'm not expecting him to do much with his back, but it sucks to have a liked player go to the f***in' Twins.
  15. I'm ecstatic to see Thabo gone. I was kinda iffy on all the trades until I saw the Bulls were able to move him. Solid.
  16. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 18, 2009 -> 07:55 PM) it was the most pathetic "high level" college basketball game between two teams that will be in the NCAA Tournament I have ever seen. Penn State is on the outside looking in for the tournament. That win is a solid resume boost, but their RPI is horrendous.
  17. QUOTE (BearSox @ Feb 15, 2009 -> 06:27 PM) Has futuresox been hijacked? Yeah and we gave up on the site anyway. Most or all of the writers have been too busy (most of us with college, Gage with his career) to update the site.
  18. I looked at my keeper possibilities and got depressed. I'll have a list when I need it.
  19. I muted the game early 2nd half because I couldn't take the love fest anymore. It is pretty funny that other than that stretch late 1st half where Duke shot about 80%, UNC outscored Duke by about 30.
  20. Bill Self has come a long way as a game coach. From the Illinois days to now. Came out with a good gameplan. Young team got tight in the end of the game. Definitely not as talented of a group as the Rush, Chalmers, etc. group, but this team impressed me. They played solid d for a young team. As for Missouri games being ugly, it's always that way.
  21. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 05:45 PM) We all know he is a POS. Fact is I dont see Duke or UNC in the final four. Ha really? Duke I agree with, don't think they will be a top 10 team by the end of the regular season. UNC though? I still think they are the best team in the land.
  22. Yeah, that's a fail. Bummer dude.
  23. QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Feb 7, 2009 -> 02:13 AM) Problem: I'm catching myself using the backspace key a lot tonight. Not good. At least you are using the backspace key.
