  1. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 10:58 PM) Once he gets injured, we'll hear about how he rushed to the rescue after Erstad got hurt and he hurt himself that way...trying to be a hero! Oh, what a guy Podsednik is! So making fun of him once wasn't enough so you decided to do it again in less than 15 minutes unsolicited. Nice guy.
  2. Charlotte lost doubleheader opener 5-2 Richar 2-4, R, SB Broadway 6 IP, 5 R, 4 K, 3 BB, 10 hits Knights complete sweep by losing 6-0 Sweeney 1-3, K Owens 1-2 Babula with the spot start Barons lost 8-7 in 14 after taking the lead in the top of the 14th Honel 3.2 IP, 2 R Collaro 3-7, 2B, R, K Lucy 3-5, 2B, HR, 2 RBI, R, BB, K 3 blown leads (10th inning too) Hogs win 1-0 behind McCulloch Schnur 1-3, BB McCulloch 8 IP, 0 R, 9 K, 0 BB, 2 hits (that brings his hits/9 just below 9 for the season, 1 or fewer walks in four straight starts, and more K than IP in his last 3) Kanny won 6-3 Carter 2-4, HR, 2 RBI, 2 R, BB Gartrell 2-5, 2 2B, 3 RBI, R, K Edwards 6 IP, 3 R, 5 K, 1 BB, 3 hits Great Falls won 10-2 Miranda 2-5, 3B, R (8-16 on the year) Bristol won 8-0 Po-Yu Lin 6 IP, 0 R, 7 K, 0 BB, 4 hits Wilmer Rojas 3 IP, 0 R, 5 K, 0 BB, 2 hits (some 20 year-old Dominican lefty)
  3. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Jun 22, 2007 -> 11:40 AM) Flash can't be reached for comment, as he has flown himself down to the jungles of Latin America, trying to find the next Liriano. Awesome As for the timing, I would think they wouldn't want to take out the draft head guy before the draft. It would be a bit of a mess otherwise. I am just making that up, but it sounds plausible.
  4. Ankiel closes in on Majors...again I'm rooting for him despite my somewhat negative feelings towards the Cardinals.
  5. The thing is his minor league numbers are close to Russell Branyan's (close enough at least, not quite the power and a bit more Ks but give me a break) minus Branyan's very solid walk rate. Branyan is a bit of a puzzle to me to be honest. He has a career .329 on base which should be respectable enough considering he has slugged at .483 (.812 OPS, that's pretty good) yet can't find a starting job to save his life. Anyway, Collaro is a poor man's Branyan without the walk rate and Branyan isn't even a starter. So Collaro better vastly improve his contact skills or walk rate if he wants to make it to the bigs. I'm rooting for him, but it doesn't look likely.
  6. He was named to the Futures Game World team.
  7. Sergio Miranda, 13th rounder, is 6-11 with Great Falls so far. To my surprise he turned 20 in March, making him a year younger than most of the college juniors drafted. Considering he doesn't have as much of an age handicap as a lot of college guys, he might actually be worth following.
  8. Max Scherzer was pretty unreal in his 3 high A starts. His numbers: 17 IP, 1 R, 30 K, 2 BB, 5 hits. He's been promoted to AA.
  9. QUOTE(BearSox @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 11:56 AM) IIRC, KW was saying that in the offseason, his 2-seamer developed really well and resembled Garland's... But as we learned, KW was a lot of talk this offseason (Massett a "tic" below Jenks) To be fair Jenks didn't look good in ST and had a rough start to the season so KW probably wasn't that far off.
  10. QUOTE(Shadows @ Jun 20, 2007 -> 02:08 PM) The Green Ranger was always my favorite one Jason>Tommy
  11. I'm going to at least one game that weekend too. It should be good times. I like the park though it could use an update. As for KC itself, it's a nice area but I haven't heard about that much to do other than look at fountains and eat barbeque.
  12. Brett Wallace is good at choking. 1st team All-American is 0-12 at the CWS and just grounded into a double play in the 10th with the bases loaded and 1 out.
  13. Knights lost 10-2 Bourgeois 1-4, solo HR, K Pods 1-3, 2B, R, BB, K, pickoff Sisco 1 IP, 1 BB, 2 hits Barons shutout again Collaro 2-4, 2 K Nanita 2-3 Russell 5 IP, 4 R Car-Cali League All-Star Game: Armstrong 0-2, R, K Schnur 0-2, K Cunningham 3-3, BB (heh) Carter 0-2 with a walk and a K in the SAL All-Star Game. Francisco Hernandez went 0-1. De Los Santos got 3 groundouts in his 1 inning of work, allowing just 1 hit. Great Falls lost 2-1 Bristol's opener got PPD.
  14. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 08:56 PM) Philadelphia the organization thought they'd hosed us. Fans, too, but the organization especially. Garcia has an ERA of 5.90, is on the DL, and is making $10,000,000 per year. Yeah, they hosed us alright. LOL
  15. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 05:26 PM) 3 Randy Terry Bo Ok fine, but it's much different when two were still active head coaches and both just coming into the best parts of their careers. Bo was almost 80 while the others died young.
  16. That makes two Big Ten football coaches that came from Miami, OH in 2 years. Weird.
  17. UNC's jerseys today are friggin awesome.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jun 19, 2007 -> 01:41 PM) Any chance the reason he dropped was signability? He's a senior, so no. Without sounding like a bitter asshole (which is probably impossible at this point lol) he isn't much of a prospect. Think Adam Ricks. The HRs are nice, but the Big East isn't very good at baseball and HRs in Rosenblatt aren't a big deal. He will probably do fairly well in A ball in the future, but he's probably not going to do well beyond that.
  19. QUOTE(fathom @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 06:56 PM) He's been a massive bust so far....that doesn't mean that label has to stick though. Yeah, that's what I meant. He is a bust now, but every GM would give this guy another chance. GP- my point about the 04 numbers is that he did show some ability to succeed in the Majors which would be enough for most teams to take a shot at him.
  20. QUOTE(Gregory Pratt @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 02:02 PM) I don't think there's any team in baseball other than us that'd trade for Gavin Floyd. Before Kenny picked him up, everyone considered him a bust, and I doubt there are many people in baseball who are about to gamble on it because he's had a few good starts in the IL his fourth year in AAA. Thanks for displaying your knowledge of baseball. No GM would consider a top 5 draft pick who was a top 10 prospect in the game 2 years ago with no injuries a bust. Every GM would also love to take a chance on the guy. I'm not getting into the argument of whether he is ready or not, but he has shown some Major League success in the past (3.49 ERA in 28.1 IP in 2004) and his AAA numbers this year are the best of his career in a hitters' park. Don't call this guy a bust.
  21. QUOTE(Steve9347 @ Jun 18, 2007 -> 11:04 AM) A move that will never see the Major League roster. HIGHLY doubtful. I'm not saying it will have a big impact, but Richar is very likely to be called up in September or 08.
  22. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 03:50 PM) I can see both sides to the argument, but it's only really a problem if he doesn't stay inside the batter's box. If he wants to stand there and get hit, that's his prerogative. I'd agree with that completely. Getting hit isn't the issue, it's part of the game (more so in college). The issue is that it was questionable if he was in the box when I saw him play. Think Carl Everett. Someone will call him on it, but he will get away with it almost all the time.
  23. Knights won 8-7 behind a strong effort from Broadway Lance 7 IP, 2 R, 8 K, 1 BB, 5 hits Pods 0-4, K, CS Sweeney 2-4, 2B, K Anderson 1-4, R, K Barons lost 2-1 despite good outing from Honel Honel 5 IP, 1 R, 2 K, 4 BB, 2 hits Collaro 0-3, BB, 2 K (his 4th BB in his last 42 at-bats, almost respectable) Nanita 2-3, R Hogs won 5-2 Reves 1-2, 2 BB D Rod 6 IP, 2 R Allen walkoff gives Kanny 7-5 win Gomes 3-5, 2B, 2 R Carter 2-3, R, 2 BB Allen 1-5, 3 run walkoff HR with 2 outs in the 9th, K Long 5.1 IP, 3 R Texeira 2.1 IP, 4 K
  24. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 02:43 PM) I guess the lesson to the story is, don't get beat by 10+ runs on your home field to a team who hadn't advanced past the Regionals in its history prior to this season. I wouldn't expect them to be classy, they'd never been in that situation before, so I would expect that they would be a little more than just excited. By the way, I'm not a U of L fan by any means, but I do root for them since I have a good friend who happens to be the first baseman. The incident occurred on Sunday in a 1 run ballgame, a game Louisville had to win to stay alive. The Monday game was a different story. Johnson himself did nothing. As for Burton, what is the deal with his helmet? He has that extension over his jaw. Did he get hit once and it petrified him or what?
  25. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 02:27 PM) I guess you're bitter since the Ville won the Mizzou regional, right? And were completely classless in doing. Dominguez showboated the whole way around after a big HR and the manager argues with the ump 5+ times per game. QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Jun 17, 2007 -> 02:31 PM) He's been hit 35 times. He does crowd the plate. But he also lead the team with 35 walks. good command of the strike zone. He's a grinder. KW will love him. Well, try throwing strikes to a guy when if you miss inside you hit him.
