The East Bracket (East Rutherford)

QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Mar 16, 2007 -> 07:14 PM) New Mexico state giving Texas a heck of a first half. Texas has been doing that lately. They tend to turn it on in the 2nd half when not playing Kansas (when they do the opposite). I'm confident they will still win, but I do like NMSU. -

USC and BC were decent non-con wins for Kansas. Throw in the Florida game and their non-con resume is as good as Wisconsin's. Pitt is close to Florida for the sake of this argument. USC and BC are higher seeds than Marquette and Winthrop. I'll give you Texas isn't that great, but they have gotten a lot better as the year has gone on. They were ofer against any decent team in non-con, but have improved leaps and bounds IMO since. I never said anything about Texas anyway. I just think A&M is good. -

QUOTE(Buehrle>Wood @ Mar 15, 2007 -> 04:03 PM) I have them losing in the 2nd round in every bracket I've filled out. A&M has gotten a free pass with one good win the entire season. Of course after I post this, they will go on a tear into the Elite 8. Which one of @Kansas and vs. Texas isn't a good win? -

Butler is keeping it real in the 2nd half. The game against Maryland should be a good one. Hopefully Butler displays the 2nd half effort today as opposed to the 1st. -

Washington State pulling away with a 16-2 run to start the 2nd half. Phew. -

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 15, 2007 -> 12:26 PM) law isnt going to nearly have that much room with Conley guarding him. He will pick his pocket. I never said A&M would beat Ohio St. I was just responding to the statement about A&M being an overrated 3 seed. I have OSU winning it all, but I still think Law would score plenty on Conley. And now I'm stuck watching A&M battle Penn. Of the 4 games playing right now this one is by far the last one I want to watch. The other 3 have interest right now and I can't root for the underdog in this game because I have A&M in the elite 8. I hate living in Big 12 country. -

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 15, 2007 -> 12:18 PM) Oh I dont have the Big East beating any good teams. I just feel A&M and the Big 12 are vastly over rated. For Ville to get to the Elite 8m, they would only have to beat A&M and Memphis who might be the most over rated 2 and 3 seeds. Try and beat Acie Law in the last 3 minutes of a close game. That's really all I need to say about A&M. Everyone thinks Memphis is overrated. They are this year's Tennessee (2 seed last year was a crock and they proved it). Funny that the two teams are from the same state. -

QUOTE(Soxbadger @ Mar 15, 2007 -> 12:14 PM) I think in my Soxtalk bracket I have the Ville going to the Elite 8. Most brackets picked them to lose to A&M just because that was the safer play but I really feel that Louisville has been coming on strong. Maybe, but I'm not feeling the Big East this year. -
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 12:55 AM) We were doing the Top 25 last year, and Gage said we needed Woodson. Neither Dan nor I had heard of him. Its become a running joke, because Jason slobbers over him and we never hear diddly. Yeah, I don't understand Jason's fascinations sometimes.
-
QUOTE(Heads22 @ Mar 13, 2007 -> 12:32 AM) Woodson was news to Dan and I last year. And still should be.
-
Oh well. So much for that Baylor. They followed up a stud half with a non-existent half.
-
QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 04:18 PM) KSU really doesn't deserve to get in. But, they're in now, which sucks. This isn't the same K State team that lost to New Mexico, Cal, and Colorado St. (granted all on the road) earlier in the year. Since the last of those 3 losses they are 18-7 with one loss outside the top 50 (@ Nebraska- RPI 100) with a win @ Texas. The Tech win is a nice one and they deserve to get in IMO. Oh and Baylor is making Mizzou look not as bad. I told you guys they played really well yesterday. They are duplicating it tonight. With A&M out I could see Baylor winning the whole tournament now. They already beat OK State this year and Kansas could feasibly replicate their DePaul and Oral Roberts games.
-
QUOTE(Jimbo @ Mar 9, 2007 -> 12:03 AM) you live and die by the full court press, it can turn into layup city. They didn't even run the press in the first half because they respected Baylor's guards. Too bad they couldn't defend them. In desperation in the 2nd half they ran it. They forced some turnovers, but it was Baylor's night. How often do you say that?
-
Baylor just shot 65% in the first half.

Best program to have never won a Championship?

Missouri fits another category...never made a Final Four. I think they have a shot at winning best school to never make a Final Four. -
If it's Big Ten, your team is generally not good because of the weather problems. Minnesota, Ohio State, and Michigan are supposed to be decent and all 3 have good chances at the tournament. That said, none of them are ranked.

I wish nothing but pain and horrible defeat to VCU in the tournament. Also, f*** that ref for a bad intentional foul call. -
QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Mar 4, 2007 -> 11:55 AM) Mizzou will give Texas a run for its money after they beat Baylor. I don't know, Durant and Texas are the worst matchup for the Tigers IMO.

So all Virginia had to do to clinch the ACC regular season title outright was to win at 11th place Wake Forest and they didn't. They'll now share the spoils with multiple teams. -

QUOTE(ZoomSlowik @ Feb 28, 2007 -> 10:59 PM) I still say you guys win even after tonight. Your game is at home, which is a big difference. Plus A&M was basically all-Law for both overtimes and they still damn near pulled it out, you'd need more than 2 guys fouling out for that to happen to Kansas... I'd say A&M is better than Kansas as proof of their win IN Lawrence, but maybe that's just me. I think Kansas will win because they are at home, but I don't think Kansas is any better than A&M. Carter and Jones fouling out among others was very key. Take away Wright and Chalmers from Kansas and the offense would operate around Rush. -

Memphis looked very blah in Maui. Their best wins are, according to the RPI, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Gonzaga, and Oklahoma. Of those teams Kentucky is in, Ole Miss is bubble, Gonzaga needs to win their conf. tourney (feasible) to get in, and OU is out. Their losses, Ga. Tech, @ Tennessee, and @ Zona, are all to top 50 teams, but are far from great teams. They are 1-3 vs. RPI top 50, 4-3 against top 100, and 20-0 vs. the rest. I'll be stunned if they make it to the elite 8 and slightly surprised if they make the sweet 16. -
Chief Illiniwek.....HE GONE!!!
danman31 replied to whitesoxfan101's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE(BigSqwert @ Feb 21, 2007 -> 04:13 PM) I really don't understand why people are losing sleep over a mascot going away. In the grand scheme of things who cares? Although I'm not a fan of any Illini team I still wouldn't care if any of my favorite team's mascot or logo needed to change for whatever reasons. There are more important things in life to concentrate your energy on. I agree. Ok so what the heck is with all the people crying during halftime of the U of I game? I watched the halftime show and I guess most of you don't get ESPNU, but they showed several fans (including a 6 or 7 year old girl somehow) crying. I don't want to sound like an ass because I think it's harsh to have to get rid of him despite the fact that he just freestyles and I could do that dance. That said, who cries over a mascot? Especially considering a majority of the students didn't passionately root for Illinois until they got there.
