  1. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 5, 2007 -> 03:03 PM) The Fox station in Des Moines and CBS station in Cedar Rapids are gonna be pulled from cable tonight unless someone steps in....which means we need an antenna to watch the playoff games....or a dish. This sucks. Bahahahahahahaha! Ha! HAHahahahhahahahha! Hahahahahah! Ha! HA HA! Looks like you are gonna have to drive to the local (local=hour drive) Walmart to pick up an antenna for your tv.
  2. QUOTE(aboz56 @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 08:05 PM) I don't agree one bit on that. The reason Lopez is so limited as a prospect is that he doesn't project to be that good of a hitter at the MLB level. In fact he's one of the best defensive guys we have in the minors yet he's held back by a weak stick IMO. Lopez's Stats He has some respectable hitting numbers in there. Outside of 2005, where he was pushed to Charlotte to start the year, he's been decent. Age is an important factor here as well. He was one of the younger players in Bham in 05 and Charlotte in 06. His 06 numbers in Bham were actually good and he held his own in Charlotte. If he develops a bit more, which is almost par for the course at his age, he would be a solid utility guy in his career. He is known for his glove as you mentioned, can play 3 positions (2B, SS, and for some reason I think he's played some 3B in the minors though I could be wrong), and brings good speed to the table. If he could draw walks at a decent rate he'd be ready now, but he is going to have to hit .280+ at the big league level to be respectable and I don't think he's capable of that. As for sleepers I'll have to look up some names to refresh my memory before I make a selection.
  3. They are decent, but I'm not going to go out of my way to listen to them. I prefer the 1000 programming, but if they are on I won't complain. I used to hear them a lot when a friend would have them in his car when we'd go to lunch in high school and that was my first exposure to them. They are a good listen sometimes, but have weird opinions more often than not.
  4. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Jan 4, 2007 -> 02:22 PM) From PhogBlog.com, which I love...... That was basically a strength of schedule within conference page. Putting Texas in the same tier as A&M, Kansas, and Ok. State? Absurd. However, they don't belong in the same tier as the next 6 teams either. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 5, 2007 -> 12:29 AM) We are! the-suck-at-shooting! 4-of-21 tonight from beyond the ark, and "lottery pick" Dominic James 1-of-8. Keep shooting, boys... maybe they'll fall in the NIT. I feel like I'm watching a Chicago Public League team when I see Marquette. I don't mean the talent is at the same level of a high school team, but the style of play. Without getting too much into a high school discussion, let's just say it's rare for a CPL school to win state. Marquette has the talent, but they either aren't organized or aren't coachable. James seemed to be the problem and source of success of that team at the same time. Make him take smart shots and the supporting cast will step up.
  5. Fact is Notre Dame isn't the 11th best team in the country. The BCS didn't fail by putting them in, the voters did. Notre Dame is probably going to have 1 win against a top 25 (from the final poll) this year, Penn St. I say probably because they aren't ranked now, but probably will be on the final rankings. That's also the only team they beat that won their bowl game. Yes, they have only lost to the top tier in the country, but they haven't had any good wins either. Compare that to Rutgers or West Virginia who have a top 15 win on their resume. The flipside is both teams have a bad loss. I guess the voters would rather have a team that hasn't lost to a bad team as opposed to a team that has a quality win. Then again, if Notre Dame was in a real conference and had to play decent teams on the road more often they would probably be in the same situation.
  6. Mizzou beat Mississippi State 83-75 to move to 11-2 tonight. I wouldn't post, but there were a couple of points in the postgame report. The first being a bash of Quin Snyder and the second is just cool.
  7. QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Jan 1, 2007 -> 11:54 PM) lol, Boise State vs. Ohio State. Oklahoma is one thing, OSU isn't even in the same ballpark guys, that would be UUUUUGLY... Maybe, but I think you could argue that for anyone in the country. Don't forget OU was a non-screw job away from possibly being in the national title game themselves. Also, I have full confidence when I say OU played as well as anyone in the country after Peterson went down. They were damn solid at the end of the year. Maybe they are better without Peterson, they go with more balance, who knows. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Jan 2, 2007 -> 12:30 AM) Ehh. I guess it's taste, but I hate him announcing baseball as well. I agree, but more so because his voice annoys me. QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Jan 2, 2007 -> 12:32 AM) BTW, the constant David v. Goliath references got old fast. Yeah, that didn't last a quarter for me.
  8. Anybody watching this game honestly think Florida is better than either of these teams? Michigan deserved it more, everyone knew it, but didn't want a rematch. That's fine. Just don't kid yourselves into saying Florida is better.
  9. Lateralling down the field never, ever works. Hail mary is more likely to have the defense screw up.
  10. The thought about car accidents damaging a person's appearance came to mind, but he could have said accidents in general or something. Even so it remains a small portion of people to single out. I don't think it's common enough to factor it in. I can't believe I'm analyzing anything in this thread...
  11. QUOTE(sox4lifeinPA @ Dec 31, 2006 -> 05:26 PM) accents (new york, new jersey, and new england..there is nothing attractive about these accents; you could be so hot and yet be so unattractive) I couldn't agree more. Also, you mentioned car wrecks as making people unattractive. You gotta explain that one.
  12. Yeah Cunningham is looking like the best position prospect in the lower levels. Interesting to see Gio and Danks below Fields and Sweeney. I would have expected to see both ahead of those hitters, esp. Danks. Considering most people still seem mostly high on Gio and Danks that is probably a compliment to Sweeney and Fields.
  13. There's few sweet 16 locks when the brackets come out, little now.
  14. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Dec 30, 2006 -> 02:46 PM) The way DePaul is playing right now, combined with the general weakness of the Big East this year, and you could probably make a case for the Demons being a top three team (in the BE) this year. I hate saying this, but if Marquette played them today, I think DePaul would win by a pretty decent margin (at least 10). I don't think you can make either case. DePaul has been very inconsistent this year and while Marquette has had their struggles game to game as well, they have shown more than DePaul so far. I wouldn't be that surprised if DePaul had a good night and beat Marquette, but you were implying they are the better team right now and I don't think you can say that. As for the Big East, it's not as bad as you were saying. Other than highly ranked UConn and Pitt, Notre Dame is playing well and ranked, and West Virginia probably will be ranked after their win over UConn today. I'd be very surprised if DePaul ended up being top 6 in the conference and that's not even an insult to the team. The conference still has a lot of quality teams even though most aren't near as good as last year. How about West Virginia? They are looking at another good season. Beilein has his team at 11-1 with his top four scorers gone and only 6 returners of any sort. Talk about a coach. Final note, I'm watching Missouri State and Creighton on the duece right now. So far it's a good, high paced game. These teams can freaking shoot.
  15. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 05:02 PM) Missouri about to lose in spectacular fashion. I told you they were going to blow it when they punted up 7 with less than 2 minutes to go. It's not a surprise. QUOTE(redandwhite @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 10:53 PM) Texas Tech just came down from 38-7 to tie it bringing it into overtime against Minnesota. I knew something was wrong when I saw a big ten team leading as much as they were, it was only a matter of time. Texas Tech just finished them off in overtime. Big Ten = 0-2 Big Ten=not good as a whole and they are dealing with having 2 BCS teams so every other team is shifted up a spot in the matchups. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Dec 29, 2006 -> 11:49 PM) And Misery proved once again why they are, well, Misery (although WHAT A BALLSY CALL by Reilly, I forever respect a guy that would do that). The call wasn't ballsy. Everyone in the stadium knew they were making it. If you watched that game you knew they were making it. The only hope Missouri had was if they didn't go for 2. The weird part about it was that they just ran it up the gut. That's from 3 yards out, you would think they would do an off tackle run or a sweep or a pass, but right up the middle for the 3 yards is making it harder than they needed to. That said their O-line destroyed Mizzou's d-line on that play.
  16. QUOTE(hammerhead johnson @ Dec 28, 2006 -> 05:12 PM) DBAHO, you're pissing off danman. Far from, but I was looking for a 2nd AAP and at this rate he's going to take any good ones available.
  17. Hawaii beat Arizona State 41-24 in their own bowl game and Colt Brennan threw 5 TDs for a new NCAA record 58 passing TDs on the year. If you haven't seen Brennan play, you're missing out, he's the real deal. He has a rocket arm and makes pro caliber passes. Hopefully Hawaii can have a better year next year (not that this year was bad for them) and he can get the Heisman.
  18. That makes 6 AAPs for you, stop hogging.
  19. People seem to be really down on Gavin Floyd. He was the more important pickup in that trade.
  20. I agree with Sickels other than the fact that I like Broadway more than most.
  21. Off hand I'd say more Broadway, less Fields, Gio, and Sweeney. I have little faith Sweeney or Fields will be above average starters. Gio is a meh prospect to me. Intriguing because of his stuff and talent, but his stature worries me and inconsistent 06 somewhat confirmed that to me.
  22. Good work, very extensive. It gets hard to find stuff on guys like that. You should help us find info on the draft picks, that can be a pain.
  23. Bukvich is 28 and from Naperville. He is a AAA righty reliever. Had some time with the Royals 02-04 and the Rangers in 05. His AAA career ERA is 4.53, MLB career ERA is 6.94. Control issues (to say the least) but has more innings pitched than hits against in the bigs. Lang is a rookie? I couldn't find much without actually trying, but he played for UNLV in 2005 and an independent team in 06. Smith was in the system last year.
  24. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Dec 21, 2006 -> 12:02 AM) I got the Chiefs. I can live with that. Except they won't make the playoffs.
  25. I've gotten the Colts 3 times in a row....time to start rigging it.
