White Sox vs. Tigers, 4/20/07 (W)
danman31 replied to Jimbo's Drinker's topic in 2007 Season in Review
It's amazing half of you guys posting in the game threads haven't killed yourselves yet. You gotta take it easy. Yeah, the play was retarded, but damn. -
The Cubs suck and lost in unique fashion, that's nothing new. For real news, the Angels have lost 6 in a row.

QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 10:38 PM) Kanny didnt play today? Rain out.

QUOTE(fathom @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 09:59 PM) Offense still isn't clicking, but we scored late runs to win this game. The 8 hits isn't thrilling, but the team had 10 walks! 10 walks!! I'll take 18 baserunners in 8 innings thank you very much. 2-8 with RISP tonight isn't that bad, not to mention the 4 walks (including 1 IBB) in other plate appearances with RISP. Konerko was 0-2 with a walk with RISP. I'd say the offense is fine other than him right now. Since the 11th (the game in Oakland where Dye hit his 1st HR) he is 8-26 (.308). Everybody other than Konerko and Uribe had a hit tonight (I won't include Thome because he didn't even get an AB tonight ). I don't know what you call clicking, but tonight was damn good offensively. As for the win itself, very good win because the Sox needed this series with their April schedule. This series and the 2 game series @ KC are the only breaks in the early schedule. If the Sox finish April above .500 I'll be very happy and I said that before the season.

QUOTE(StrangeSox @ Apr 19, 2007 -> 07:40 PM) Fire the 3B coach and just use a windmill. It'll save money and generate electricity. I can't let that go unnoticed. -

Despite his .204 average his .328 on base is at least respectable and he is 4th on the team in runs. He is slumping and still being an average producer.
-
He looks better than Molina, but I wouldn't want to rush Lucy. It sounds like he is finally comfortable at the plate, let's keep it that way. Also, I'm not going to go crazy over his numbers because we've seen multiple contact hitters rake in Birmingham's big park and then fall flat in Charlotte before adjusting (if they adjust). Ok, I'm gonna admit I didn't look at his splits before I said that. I forgot milb.com has splits now. He is 6-13 on the road with 4 doubles, 7-22 with 3 doubles at home. It's still early, but wow.

Barons pitchers have learned that catcher Donny Lucy calls the shots- and that's just fine with them

QUOTE(IlliniKrush @ Apr 18, 2007 -> 01:40 PM) The NFHS (National Federation of State High School Associations) rule book states that: "Runners are never required to slide, but if a runner elects to slide, the slide must be legal. Jumping, hurdling, and leaping are all legal attempts to to avoid a fielder as long as the fielder is lying on the ground. Diving over a fielder is illegal." That's stupid. To get back to the original thread before the hijack. How can you not love the ping?

Charlotte lost 7-4. Owens 2-5. Sweeney 2-3. Rogo 1-3, HR. Haeger destroyed. Box Score

Vince Young? Wow that's interesting considering he isn't near cover worthy yet. -
The 2007 Big Ten/ACC Challenge

QUOTE(sircaffey @ Apr 17, 2007 -> 07:48 AM) Duke vs. IU should be a must each year, IMO. Why? So Duke can slaughter them every year? I don't see why the perennially 3rd-5th best team in the Big Ten should match up against one of the top two programs in the ACC. -
QUOTE(Palehosefan @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 11:02 PM) Really nice to see Justin Edwards pitching well at 19 years old. He's younger than me.

QUOTE(beautox @ Apr 16, 2007 -> 04:48 PM) wow at Aaron Cunningham thus far, whats his ETA and is he that stud lead off man the sox haven't seen since durham circa '99? Pods was damn good in 05, but whatever. Cunningham's ETA is looking like 2009 or 2010. Best case scenario for him is he blasts through W-S, gets promoted to Birmingham and does very well there. Then next year has a good enough spring to convince the Sox he is ready for AAA. If he continues his success in Charlotte and the Sox are desperate for a CFer around midseason he could get a look then. That scenario is highly doubtful. I'm thinking he will be ready mid 2009, but that doesn't mean he will get called up. -
QUOTE(winninguglyin83 @ Apr 15, 2007 -> 07:12 PM) here is some eggie stuff for ya. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/pecota/EGBERT19830512A.php Some of those stats are f'd up. I could never get into all those extra stats like the equivalents on that page. They try to completely quantify baseball and therefore completely ignore the numerous intangibles that are so important in the game.

QUOTE(SoxFan101 @ Apr 15, 2007 -> 05:41 PM) According to my Rangers friend, Matt Kata played 3B today and was a butcher and screwed B-Mac over in the 2nd inning, although he wasnt credited with errors. BMac still gave up 3 HRs in 2 innings. Can't blame the defense for that.
-
Any idiot could see BMac wasn't good last year. He was horrid last year and is going to continue to be horrid unless he can get a fastball that moves and more consistent control with his offspeed stuff. That said he should get better, he is still young. Of course going from a mediocre hitters' park to a big time hitters' park isn't going to help any.
-
Charlotte and W-S were rained out and Birmingham was off so Kanny is the only affiliate playing. Savannah @ Kannapolis Brooks starting for the I's. Whoops, suspended due to rain mid 4 with the score tied 2-2. Brooks 4 IP, 2 R (1 ER)

He is Heads' manlove. Drafted in 13th round in 04 out of Rutgers. Had good but not dominant numbers in college. Average year at Great Falls after getting drafted. Started as a reliever for Kanny, made a couple spot starts and did well. They kept him in the rotation when someone got promoted, did well. Did very well at Winston-Salem last year and got a few starts at Birmingham where he also did very well. He has had average K numbers with solid control throughout his pro career. His K numbers in his 6 starts at Bham (4 last year, 2 this year) have come out of nowhere (41 Ks in 33 IP). I thought he was a control pitcher with mediocre stuff (I could be remembering wrong), but his Bham numbers would say otherwise.

4/14 Games - Day with 16 K in 5.2 IP this year
danman31 replied to Heads22's topic in FutureSox Board
Honel didn't pitch but Wing did and pitched well for 3 innings. Collaro also went yard. Sonix- I would imagine they are just stretching him out. That was his first start and only second appearance of the year. In his last outing he went 3 innings and didn't allow a baserunner. They probably have him on a pitch count. It probably was higher this time because he allowed 3 baserunners in his 3 innings this time. -
QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 13, 2007 -> 11:13 PM) I agree with your sentiment regarding Boras clients. You can't expect to continually develop talent when the international talent pool is ignored, we're consistently picking 15+, and the quality players available -- which may demand more money -- are passed up. Say what you want, but I wouldn't want to be burned by a Boras client that doesn't sign or at least doesn't sign until almost a year later.
