  1. Pudge hits a 3 run bomb in the 9th after the Royals led 2-0 virtually all game. How do the Tigers do it? I know the Royals blow, but god damnit just come back in the 6th or something.
  2. Pawtucket 3 @ Charlotte 4, 12 innings Game was tied 1-1 after 11, Pawtucket scored 2 in top half of 12th, Knights answered with 3 in bottom half. Fields 2-5, HR, K Sweeney 1-4, R, BB Floyd 6 IP, 1 R, 5 K, 1 BB, 4 hits Carolina 4 @ Birmingham 6 Getz 1-4, R, SB Collaro 3-4, 3B, HR, 3 RBI, R, K (7-17 with 3 XBH on the year so far) Lucy 1-3, 2B, R Whisler 5 IP, 3 R (0 ER) Wing 3 IP, 0 R, 3 K, 0 BB, 0 hits (W) Kannapolis 4 @ Columbus 5 Shelby 1-5 with a HR to leadoff the game Carter 1-4, 2B, R, 2 K Gomes 1-2, 2B, RBI, R, BB Hernandez 1-4, 2B, 2 RBI, K Long 4 IP, 3 R (start)
  3. Introducing 21 year old pitcher Faustino De Los Santos. His line today in relief for Kanny: 3 IP, 1 R, 4 K, 1 BB, 2 hits. That alone is nothing spectacular, but I clicked on his profile on milb.com and his 2006 DSL stats were listed. 48.1 IP, 20 R (10 ER) making for a 1.86 ERA, 61 K, 10 BB, 44 hits in 10 appearances, 9 starts. Those are damn good stats, maybe he can turn into something this year. Even considering his age, it's rare the Sox jump a guy from the DSL to A ball.
  4. Winston-Salem got postponed due to cold. Kanny scoreless after 5, Jose Zazueta pitching well.
  5. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 7, 2007 -> 05:42 PM) He already struck out Mauer. Thanks for saying that, completely agree. Great win, the Sox have looked about as good in their 2 wins as they did bad in their 2 losses. That makes them a .500 team I guess, but improvement is always welcome obviously.
  6. QUOTE(Wedge @ Apr 7, 2007 -> 04:39 PM) I hope Javy makes me eat crow this season. I know he won't... but I hope he does. Haha that's an interesting statement.
  7. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Apr 7, 2007 -> 04:28 PM) think Pods will attempt to steal? guess not It would have been a good spot to do so though.
  8. 23 pitches to the first 3 batters with 2 on, very good start for the offense. Now let's get them in.
  9. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 11:27 PM) My bold prediction: Dewon Day is on the White Sox major leaguer roster before August. That's extremely bold considering the guy has never really had his control under control. Obviously he has had injury problems, but his numbers have been far from dazzling. His K numbers have been very good, but that's about it. Last year he was good, but not great. I just don't see any reason to see him blow through 2 levels that quickly, though there is a shot he gets promoted straight from AA.
  10. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Apr 6, 2007 -> 02:56 PM) If he comes out this year and hits .300/.350/.500, that will be very encouraging (although some will probably be due to the fact that he's hitting in Charlotte). What are Sweeney's prospects in centerfield? I know that he's better suited for RF, but do you guys think he could play an average CF if given the chance? His value goes up quite a bit if he could stick in CF, although that would mean moving Anderson to the corners, and I'm not sure that he has the power to stick in one of the corners. Considering Sweeney hit .296/.350/.452 last year, .300/.350/.500 wouldn't be much of an upgrade. I'm hoping for him to hit higher than .310 just to show notable improvement. While, your season would be far from a disappointment I'm hoping more for something like .312/.370/.500. Granted, those are somewhat high expectations that is what I want to see to give me hope for him being a 300+ hitter with 15 HR power. I don't see why Sweeney would push Anderson out of center. That makes 0 sense. So what if our RF doesn't hit for power? As long as the lineup makes up for the power elsewhere I don't care where they play.
  11. The power hitting 1st baseman got a look with the big league club in Spring Training and was retired in his only at-bat. He is starting this season with Kannapolis again. He went 0-4 with a K while hitting from the 4 spot. Hopefully he can buck the trend of Sox hitting prospects that mash rookie league pitching and then struggle in A ball (see Salvador Sanchez, Francisco Hernandez).
  12. Ultimately this is a make or break year for Sweeney. He has always been very young for the league he has played in. This year he will be repeating AAA so he will have experience at the level and won't be one of the youngest players in the league anymore, though still on the young end. If he repeats last year I think you can write him off as a power hitter of any sort in his career. I'm not saying he won't be able to hit near 300 in the bigs, but I severely doubt he will ever hit for power. I'm one of the hardest on Sweeney, but I still expect him to hit over 300 this year in AAA and develop into a solid defensive OFer that can hit around 280-290 with a respectable on base, but little power.
  13. QUOTE(BearSox @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 08:23 PM) Sweeney is said to be the future 3 hitter for the White Sox He is? Pass me what you are smoking...
  14. He looked decent, but he didn't blow me away. The Royals offense isn't that great and hitters don't know a thing about him yet. He kept the ball down and his control seemed to get better as the game went on, but the Sox were on at the same time so I can't really say too much. He had decent, but far from spectacular stuff. I think he could be a lot like Nomo. Once the hitters figure him out he's in trouble.
  15. Winner! Masset was the man and the hitting was enough (and clutch in Pods case) despite Thornton's continued struggles. With our April schedule I'll be very pleased with a winning April.
  16. We are winning in the 8th inning. It's all about baby steps lol.
  17. Masset has looked good and, hey look, we aren't losing. Nice change of pace.
  18. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Apr 5, 2007 -> 10:22 AM) Wait a second, a catcher and 2 middle infielders? I didn't even know our organization had such things in its minor leagues! Yeah, but this far down they are far from big time prospects.
  19. QUOTE(Flash Tizzle @ Apr 4, 2007 -> 05:16 PM) Now, lets see whether Danks matches that. Time to update the McCarthy/Danks watch. Good to see you aren't going to be biased in keeping track of stats though...he's given up 5 runs, 3 ER. You separated the categories conveniently. An unearned run is still a run.
  20. I'm not sure if this has been said before or not, but did anyone else think Contreras looks like Pedro Serrano (Major League) with his new facial hair?
  21. QUOTE(Heads22 @ Apr 2, 2007 -> 08:17 PM) Iowa just should avoid Wright State. Yeah, but maybe they'll beat Drake now or win in Evanston.
  22. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 02:03 PM) It was very close to going in, it slipped out of his hand because of the contact. Exactly. The guy in the way was the reason he had to dunk from so far away and thus the contact was always going to happen and he was never going to be able to make that.
  23. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 01:54 PM) Even though it was clearly a charge, I have to say that Greg Oden almost completed the best final four dunk of all time when he took off just inside the free throw line. I KNOW everyone watching said a collective "whoa" I can't believe he attempted it. He had to know he wasn't going to make it.
  24. QUOTE(dasox24 @ Apr 1, 2007 -> 02:37 AM) I'd imagine it will be. I know Heads and I have all our stuff turned in, and I'm sure the rest of the guys do too. Don't hold your breath. We are waiting on Jason to e-mail Alex the stuff once he looks it over. It will get out, more likely before minor league opening day, but it will get out.
