  1. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 10, 2013 -> 10:25 AM) Sanchez really shouldn't either at this point. Give it another couple months. If you fall out of the race or are still in last come Memorial Day, start shopping and scouting. If an other comes up and it's worth trading guys, do so and promote whoever or whatever. Sanchez should factor in if the Sox believe in him. He's certainly close enough this early slump aside. He may not be good enough and the Sox may not think he's starting material, but that evaluation is absolutely a part of the process. Sanchez is a well-regarded prospect in AAA and trading one of the middle infielders affects the next few years.
  2. Promoting a guy based on stolen bases seems like a bad idea. He needs to get on base to steal those bases at higher levels. He's doing well, but no need to rush him.
  3. Stephen Curry is the most fun player to watch in the NBA and I don't think it's even close.
  4. I'm not sure we'll see all of those guys in the DSL. They don't always suit up right away.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ May 7, 2013 -> 07:16 PM) I get The Score in Columbia, MO. Crystal clear at night. I miss those days. It was a big deal when the Sox switched from 1000 and I could actually listen to games in the car when needed.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2013 -> 04:13 PM) If it was completely nonsense, it wouldn't have Johnson and Bassitt at 1/2. Who has pitched better than them, statistically? What argument could you possibly make from a more advanced SABR argument that those guys shouldn't be at the top? As I clearly and simply said above you're rewarding positive stats and punishing negative ones so the ranking is correct, but the math that went into it is random. The actually numbers don't have proper context. Why would you divide by ERA? You could subtract ERA and that would do the same thing in terms of the relative number.
  7. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ May 7, 2013 -> 08:48 AM) NBA Jam has to be top 10, right? It has to be top 5. I could argue for it being No. 1.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2013 -> 12:20 AM) Well, it can make a pitcher with a lot of strikeouts (by my formula) but not pitching as effectively (ERA-wise) look worse...for example, Snodgress statistically wouldn't stand out, but most here are calling him our 2nd or 3rd best pitching prospect. Or it could do the opposite. A pitcher without gaudy IP/H or BB/K ratios could be made to look better because of a low ERA. Essentially, it's trying to screen for both pitchers putting up a good WHIP, high K's per IP and also lower ERA's, but combining it. All the stat does is credit positive statistics and punish negative ones. The actually number is a nonsense combination of that.
  9. I don't understand what dividing by ERA accomplishes.
  10. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 6, 2013 -> 08:51 AM) Unfortunately, this is how we're going to evaluate most of our better position playing prospects. A lot of them are raw/toolsy players who were given aggressive assignments, so you have to look for improvements over the course of the season and not their numbers in aggregate. Thompson is where he belongs. You're right about the improvement over the course of the season, but he wasn't given an aggressive assignment.
  11. Ken Griffey is the only baseball game I found fun so, yeah, that's gotta be way up there. NFL Street, which made the list, is actually a good choice. I would never play that single player, but to play while I was in the dorms was a lot of fun. An NHL game has to make the list fairly high. I played 99 the most, but I've played other versions and always had fun despite not being a big hockey fan. That said, I pour hundreds of hours into FIFA every year so that's gotta be high on the list. Maybe something in the 06-08 range.
  12. I will say that I've long thought Walker was overrated by Sox fans based on the fact that he was the first White Sox pick that year despite not being a true first round pick. There is a notable difference between a first rounder and a supplemental pick. The expectations should be lower.
  13. Noah taking Lopez one-on-one was so much fun to watch. Meanwhile, Joe Johnson threw up a stinker. The Bulls got contributions from everyone, but if Johnson plays decently the Nets win. Pretty amazing.
  14. Jaye also struck out 9 guys in his last start. He had a low ERA, but with mediocre peripherals earlier. Webb is looking like a very solid relief prospect after his nice AA debut today. Another hard thrower.
  15. I understand the respect for Butler, but he is a shooting guard that is awful at shooting. C'mon now. Let's not love the guy simply because he plays hard.
  16. Knights @ Toledo Castro Chattanooga @ Barons Completion of yesterday's game. Barons game 2 Snodgress Salem @ Dash Beck Greensboro @ Intimidators Brennan
  17. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 4, 2013 -> 02:19 PM) Walker almost at throw-in level? I'm absolutely flabbergasted. What exactly are you basing this off of? 117 plate appearances as a 22 year in AA? He shouldn't even be at this level, as he only had 168 plate appearances at high A last year. The Sox give him an aggressive assignment and people don't even allow him a chance to make adjustmentd before writing him off. It's not like he was all that great in A ball. Sub .800 OPS between Kanny/WS. I wouldn't write him off, but it's hard to say he's a high value guy at the moment.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 4, 2013 -> 11:56 AM) Walker is maybe close to that level, though I'd say a little more than a throw-in. Thompson is still worth a lot more than that, IMO. Neither are MLB-wide elite guys, but I think Thompson is still a B prospect with the tools for more. Probably true, but I wouldn't try to be buying low on either if I'm the GM of another team.
  19. QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ May 4, 2013 -> 11:38 AM) Yoandy Barroso has also been promoted to Winston-Salem, Kyle Hansen to Kanny, Justin Jirschele to Birmingham, Michael Earley to temporarily inactive list in B-Ham Earley's wife just had a baby so that explains his move.
  20. That said, Johnson still has a pretty good strikeout rate.
  21. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ May 4, 2013 -> 06:40 AM) You being serious? You don't think other organizations would love to get their hands on athletes like Thompson & Walker? We're talking about two 22 year old outfielders with crazy tools. Just because we struggle with developing hitters doesn't mean all other teams do and wouldn't want chance at them. You wouldn't be able to headline a major trade with either of them, but both guys should have strong value as secondary pieces in a deal. At this point, anyone who rates either of those guys with any more value than as throw ins is making a big mistake.
  22. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ May 3, 2013 -> 07:23 PM) If Hawkins is going to be getting the Brian Anderson treatment then we should probably deal him this summer. Trayce too. And Walker. Trade them all for pitchers which we can develop, and then trade those guys for hitters other organizations have developed. I can't imagine Trayce and Walker have any value at all right now.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ May 2, 2013 -> 09:56 PM) If Derrick wants to be a hero, he comes back in game 7 and gives us productive minutes. Because we seriously need it. Don't hope for it or root for it. Just get him the f*** out of Chicago.
  24. I think Ravelo was always going to be a timed promotion. He hasn't done especially well this season, but hopefully that was just a matter of getting back in rhythm after so much off time last season.
