All New Soccer Thread ~ All Levels ~ All Leagues
danman31 replied to Texsox's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
It's still amazing Celtic made it this far considering their talent level. Juve is just another class though. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Jan 31, 2013 -> 08:54 AM) Last night sucked, but he took on a team comprised of mostly all seniors last year, and they had a great year. He lost all that continuity and talent, and on the fly brought in a lot of players from different ages to fill in the program. He also lost the only other player who played on last years team. The result? A bunch of players still trying to learn how to play with each other and they are getting taken advantage of on the road. It happens. This is still going to be a tournament team. The coach's job is to get that continuity. This was a preseason top 15 team that's looking like a bubble team that will lose in the first round like the team two years ago. If they can't win at LSU I don't see how they're going to win more than one or two road games in a mediocre (as usual) SEC. You can continue to be positive, but Haith is awful. Look at the schedule and give me an honest prediction of the team's SEC record. I'm thinking 9-9. They lose out on the road except Mississippi State and win out at home except Florida. Does that get in the tourney?

To all my Missouri fans that supported Frank Haith: stop. He's terrible. s***ty losses like tonight will only continue to happen. They continue to be completely unprepared at the start of games. Who does that fall on? The coach. He stinks. This team will struggle to make the tournament at this rate.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jan 23, 2013 -> 11:44 PM) Guess NU hit my over for Big Ten wins already. Didn't see that coming, it's not the end of January yet. Yeah, wtf is up with this team? Really makes you play the what if game regarding Crawford. That said, it's still a team that lost to UIC so...

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 22, 2013 -> 08:13 PM) Too many amazing skits on that show. Easily goes down as my favorite comedy sketch show of all time. Yeah, I have a hard time picking one over the others. I could say I love one bit and then there's several more that are absolutely laugh every time classics. I will mention Black Bush just because I didn't see anyone else mention it. I must have watched that 20 times in college.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 23, 2013 -> 09:41 PM) How about two or three different endings? Is that really asking too much for a game all about "choice"? I could name a half dozen games off the top of my head in a variety of genres that offer multiple endings based on your decisions. I guess it all depends on your version of different, but it's hard to make a sequel when you're trying to make distinctly different endings.
-
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jan 23, 2013 -> 06:52 PM) Great game, although I wished the big choices had a more profound impact on the story, in particular the ending. Yes, people would remember things you did and said, but no matter what the ultimate ending was the same. I don't understand why people complain about that in these choice games. What do you expect? The devs to make 10 entirely different versions of 1 game?

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jan 23, 2013 -> 04:29 PM) Yeah, won all the game of the year awards. Want to try it out. I liked it, but it has some definite issues. I don't think it should have won any game of the year awards. It's worth playing, but it lacks polish. Plus, it's point and click adventure so you have to like that genre to some extent or else it gets long. Some of the best storytelling you'll see in video games though.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jan 22, 2013 -> 04:04 AM) He's been really popular around campus also. Does the standard Buffalo Wild Wings weekly interview, always comes and talks with students during ticket lines, emails students frequently. I hear he's a really nice interview. Obviously his win-loss record at Missouri conflicts with my opinion of Haith as a coach so I should be in the minority on this view. I don't see a well-coached team on the floor this year. I think last year's team was an oddity based around veteran players that thrived with having the background in Mike Anderson's system and then actually running a half-court offense their senior year. Plus having 2 (maybe 3 with Pressey in the future) NBA guards helped, too.

QUOTE (zenryan @ Jan 21, 2013 -> 04:59 PM) Haith regarding the Miami situation. I guess his former assistants, the ones who he didnt tell he was leaving Miami for Missouri, are rating him out. Should be interesting... This is potentially glorious news. It would be fantastic if Missouri would be forced to get rid of Haith. Last year was an aberration and a perfect storm that had more to do with a special group of players than it did the coach.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 10:22 PM) Yeah I think I would have preferred the fairytale ending. Although I think they try and leave you with some hope with the card triggering perhaps Peter's memory. How is that not the fairytale ending? I'd say it was pretty clear cut. Both episodes tonight were entertaining and some of the best stuff they've had in a while. Fringe got a bit too wacky at parts and the Observer world I think could have been done better overall. Still, I loved that show and recommend it to anyone.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 09:56 AM) You forgot that the interception was likely one-handed while looking the other way. That move is why I stopped playing football video games. The no look turnaround pick was the worst thing. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jan 18, 2013 -> 12:46 PM) Only games I've played over the past few years have been the Assassins Creed series, Uncharted series and FIFA Eerily similar to my library. I've started getting into cheaper, shorter downloadable games like Journey and Unfinished Swan. Really hard to rage at those type of games. They keep it simple and look amazing.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jan 17, 2013 -> 10:33 PM) There's nothing to be sorry about, they have 2 1/2 definitively Big Ten caliber players (Swopshire has a habit of disappearing for long stretches, sometimes entire games). Yeah, with Crawford out I would say losing at home to Northwestern should be a near fireable offense. Obviously Groce is a first year coach so that doesn't apply, but it's still a black mark on his record.

I went to see Django tonight. It's good. Maybe a bit over the top even for me towards the end, but the first half or so is really awesome. That movie isn't made for the masses though. I also was intrigued by the trailer for the Tom Cruise movie Oblivion coming in April. I thought it looked awesome. Looking forward to that one.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 8, 2013 -> 04:12 PM) Simply the size of the files comparable to blue-ray. Seems like a ton of downloading/storing to me vs changing discs. Assassin's Creed III was available as a digital download on release day. I didn't download it, but it had to be north of 20 GB. Huge games are already available digitally. I expect this upcoming generation of consoles to play heavier into that.

When I saw this thread title in this forum I assumed it meant someone got hurt. This really isn't worth getting worked up about.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 7, 2013 -> 09:11 PM) When is the bama vs a&m vs Oregon triple threat match? I was thinking to myself that it's a shame Oregon lost to Stanford because they are so fun to watch. But then it would be them vs. ND. The real shame is that ND didn't lose any of its close games so they wouldn't be in this spot (Pitt I'm looking at you). -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 4, 2013 -> 03:16 PM) The only one I don't like I guess is over. I think this could be a 17-14 kind of game. Not sure how much either team is going to move the ball. Yeah, that's a bad play. ND likely won't win if it goes over. They need to steal a 17-14 type game like you said. -
QUOTE (FlaSoxxJim @ Jan 5, 2013 -> 01:33 PM) Sixth Sense and Unbreakable are the only two I really liked. I mostly liked Signs, but I hated the "tell him to swing away. . . " prophesy thing from the dying wife so much that it pretty much ruins the rest of the film for me. Signs was good for the first 2/3, but once the aliens show up and swing away becomes relevant it loses a bit. Sixth Sense is one of my all time favorite movies. It's really well done. Unbreakable is good, too, but I think you have to have at least some respect for the comic book style and genre to appreciate it.

QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jan 3, 2013 -> 01:21 PM) I would imagine that the number of people that just keep buying used games is far greater than the number that eventually buy new ones. Then again, I'm weird about that and never buy used games. The far easier answer to me is to increase digital distribution so gamestop can't sell the same used game 4 times at $50 a pop. I don't buy used games either, though I frequently sell back games I've played. That said, I'd happily see Gamestop rot. That place has screwed me over a couple times and I don't really care for the used games market as a business. As others mentioned some games already have activation codes as is anyway. This is just the next step.

Generally you don't move a minor leaguer because of a major league need. You move them once they get to the majors if you're desperate. Otherwise, just let the player develop at his natural/best fit position. As for Barnum, he's a high schooler that got hurt last year and only got to play a dozen or so games. He is years away. Too far away to put a number on it.

QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Dec 29, 2012 -> 12:47 AM) I am really liking Oswin. I thought it would be hard to replace Pond, like it was with Rose, but Im thinking Oswin may do the trick. Yeah she's good. I like that they're giving her mystery right away. They've set themselves up for quite a few really cool explanations. It's a great way to build a connection to her character, although Pond will probably always be my favorite.

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Jan 1, 2013 -> 09:06 PM) Florida St.'s playcalling is horrendous. Better play calling and this game is over already. It should be shortly. The talent mismatch is so apparent. Lynch isn't good when you take away his running.
