I don't think it's a no brainer because if the Sox let him go, someone will pick him up for the minimum. Pitchers with success that lasted over a full year always will be given a shot, especially when that was just two years ago with an injury-plagued season in between. He has value to an MLB GM, but that doesn't mean he's worth 2 million. It depends on other moves or planned moves.

Final 10 games for both the White Sox and Kittens

Sox win 2 of 3 from Cleveland, lost 3 to Tampa, win 2 in Cleveland. 5-5 finish. I could see a game 163 coming from that. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2012 -> 10:47 PM) Do you have to worry about your car getting looted at Gately Stadium? Or is it safer now? I've been to Gately on a Saturday afternoon before and had no problem. I understand Friday nights are a different animal, but I'm not super worried. Besides, among all the fancy cars the Loyola contingent will be bringing my car will not be labeled as a target. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2012 -> 10:36 PM) Thanks Danman. That makes sense. Is Loyola undefeated just like MC? Who do you pick in the showdown? Loyola lost to Dallas Jesuit in Dublin, Ireland, in week 2 by 1 point. That Dallas team had 4 BCS level commits in its senior class. Before this week I thought Loyola would win, although MC's big win on Friday may have changed my mind. I'm truly on the fence. It's going to be a great game. -

QUOTE (kev211 @ Sep 22, 2012 -> 08:21 PM) Some really good games going on right now. Yep. I sure hope everyone blew off that waste of a ND-Mich game for the actually really good games between ranked teams going on. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 22, 2012 -> 02:19 AM) Danman are u a journalist? Do you cover these games? I watched some of the Rice-MC game. Carmel looked like it could score on any play it wanted. I guess some Rice fans complained about how the team ran the ball too much under the former coach. I still think the right formula for high school is run a ton like Mt. Carmel and throw maybe 10 times a game? This Rice formula of throwing 45 times a game kind of scares me. I don't think high school kids can pull that off over the course of a season without having some mega-turnover games. What u think? Yes, I cover games, mostly in the northern suburbs. I'm on the Loyola beat, but I've covered a bit of other teams in the area as well. I don't think running that much is very effective to be honest. If you have Mount Carmel's talent and coaching you can run just about any system and be fairly successful. MC is one of the most consistent teams in the state and they had an amazing run in the 90s and early 2000s, but they haven't won a state title since 2003. I wouldn't say they've fallen off, but teams like Maine South and Wheaton-Warrenville South have passed them up. Heck, both of those teams beat MC in state title games. Neither of those schools is run-heavy and both have produced good college QB prospects. Even in the Catholic League Loyola went undefeated last year running 4 and 5 WRs all the time. So, basically, I don't think there's one best system. You have to have talent, disciplined players and good coaching. -

QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Sep 22, 2012 -> 04:42 PM) My wildcats are lookin pretty darn good...I kinda dislike the fact that their schedule is sooooo weak, I wanna see them beat a good team. What the nail biters against Syracuse and Vandy weren't enough for you? Heck even the BC game came down to the last few minutes before it was sealed. I'm enjoying the ride for NU, but don't get caught up thinking they're a great team. They have a lot of improvement to make. -
I think it's more the fact that the improvements now are incremental and not as big as say the jump from the 3GS to the 4 was. That was a huge jump and wowed a lot of people very quickly. To notice all the differences you mentioned you have to be fairly geeky to truly appreciate the differences. Most people won't notice a major difference in a lot of these things, at least not consciously. Although, I held the 5 for myself and compared it to my 4S and the difference in weight was impressive.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 21, 2012 -> 09:08 PM) Brother Rice is getting spanked 42-7 at halftime. I kind of had a feeling a combination of Carmel being amazing and Rice feeling good about itself after the great win over St. Rita might make it tough this week. O was wrong about Rice's defense. Looks bad tonight. Mt. Carmel and Loyola are the class of the league. I'm looking forward to that one next Friday. Hopefully I don't get shot at Gately. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 11:32 PM) Harry, Dan and Buehrle are u all Rice grads? DO you think Mt. Carmel will pound Rice this Friday? I watched last Friday's game on the Internet. It's amazing when high school quarterbacks throw that many times. I would think some weeks the turnovers may come in bunches. So far so good, though for Br. Rice. I went to public school, but, yes, Mt. Carmel will win huge. -
Thompson had an ERA of 7.71 in the first half and then 0.55 in the second half with a 44:6 K:BB ratio. That sounds like something clicking to me.

QUOTE (That funky motion @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 09:02 PM) The skating is very smooth. Goalie better on one timers and better all around. Hitting is better, you can really light someone up. Cycling with the puck is much better, more like real hockey. You can now have your D pinch up too. It seems more realistic. I remember playing against people who played hockey and they'd always get mad at me because I'd just go end to end weaving through defenders and would win. This skating system seems like a huge step forward and might encourage me to buy it.

QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 03:28 PM) I've only bought phones from the AT&T store. If I order online through apple, do I than take it to the AT&T store to activate? I've had it mailed and they give you a number to call for activation. It's very easy to set it up. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 06:18 PM) Are you on wifi? I connected to my mac because I back up to that instead of icloud. Same here. My download time was about 10 minutes because I plugged it into my laptop with the USB charger. I know someone who updated their iPad over WiFi and said it took an hour. It's cool to do it over the air, but it's much slower. QUOTE (lostfan @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 07:39 PM) So I thought the iPad 2 was getting Siri but instead I didn't get s***, and they took YouTube away. But I got a clock app! There's a much better YouTube app made by google that's free.

QUOTE (That funky motion @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 05:37 PM) Anyone get NHL 13? The skating is completely different. No, but I've watched/read some stuff about it. I like the concept. How does it feel to play?

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 19, 2012 -> 01:59 PM) The 3rd season of Walking Dead is gonna be a ton of action. Everyone will complain that there is no dialogue and it's moves to fast. I don't know, the first season was pretty good. I don't think the problem is that there wasn't any action. It's that there wasn't any action AND the dialogue that took its place sucked.

Interesting mix heading to Instructional. This AFL group seems to be more intriguing prospect wise than I can remember the last few years. Wilkins is the only guy coming off a disappointing season.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Sep 18, 2012 -> 12:54 PM) Yes as does Loyola now. St Xavier began running this a few years back and are very successful with it, won the NAIA national championship. The Rice coach is from there, as well as a Rice alum Loyola doesn't have the WR talent they had the last couple years so they don't pass as much as they used to. They ran a bunch of successful bubble screens on Saturday against Providence, but it's not the same. Also, from what I saw last year Brother Rice was a very run heavy team. Did I catch them on a weird week or something? -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 17, 2012 -> 04:34 PM) There's the kiss of death. Aww come on. I said 'barring a collapse' and 'shouldn't need to do anything spectacular.' I'm aware there's a lot of ball to be played, but the pressure is CLEARLY on the other side.
-
QUOTE (balfanman @ Sep 17, 2012 -> 04:26 PM) This is my fear. The way this division race has gone the last couple of months, Detroits probably going to at least tie us one more time. The Tigers have a nice schedule to close (6 against Minny, 7 against KC), but the Sox just have to go, say, 9-7 to close to put a ton of pressure on the Tigers. 9-7 by the Sox means the Tigers have to go a scorching 12-4 just to force a playoff. Barring a collapse, the Sox shouldn't need to do anything spectacular.

Nate Jones is 8-0. Totally deserved it today though. HUGE stuff from the club, especially coming back from 3-0 down when it was easy to be negative.

9/17 Tigers at White Sox

Great inning by Myers. Keep Cabrera 5th for the 9th. If he comes up, it will be a tight spot though. -

Waiting for the Sox to hit that killer HR. They seem to only win when they hit a long ball. Hit one in this game and the gap could be too large. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 17, 2012 -> 03:05 PM) That's the slider he can't go to when he's behind in the count...or throw consistently. It's actually a tighter, harder breaking one than Addison's. Jones has always had better stuff than Reed. The problem is he typically/historically hasn't controlled it anywhere near as well. That was dominant stuff right there though. The Tigers have 3 innings left. They're going to start to get desperate. Time to make them feel that pressure.
