Official 2012-2013 NCAA Football Thread

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 10:08 PM) On a neutral field, Georgia's probably what, a 10-13 point favorite? I don't think Mizzou home field is worth nearly that much. It's not, but I'm worried about a snowball effect from losing that one. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 08:10 AM) They still think they have a chance to compete in the SEC. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy as the destruction unfolds. Define compete. I don't see that much of a difference from the schedule they played last year. I don't see why they can't post a .500 record in the league this year. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 02:31 PM) Probably. But still, it does show they think something of him, or else they would have chosen someone else. I doubt he's in AA to start next year, of course. More likely A-, or maybe A+. I think it's just a favor to the local kid to play for the hometown team. Don't look past that.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Aug 28, 2012 -> 10:22 AM) I wouldn't say that. Georgia is picked to win the SEC East by pretty much everyone and with their easy schedule should easily make a BCS bowl game. If yall lost to them, I think Missouri would still have a chance to have a good year. It's more a statement on how big the home field advantage is going to be. If you can't win a big game with how the crowd is going to be, you're not going to win any big games. They may still rack up some wins, but it won't be a memorable year. That game is massive for Mizzou. -

QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 27, 2012 -> 05:23 PM) Well, me too. But you never know what team shows up in week 2. Columbia is going to be absolutely f***ing rocking for that one. If they can't win that one, it's going to be a long year I think. -
Interesting thing about Molina through 5 IP. He's got 9 groundouts to 1 flyout. That's unlike him.

Pawtucket @ Knights Shirek QS Barons @ Huntsville Molina Dash lost 5-2 Snodgress 6 scoreless, 7 K, 1 BB Intimidators @ Lakewood Lane Grand Junction @ Voyagers Linza scoreless Burlington @ BriSox 6

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 25, 2012 -> 09:32 PM) Not sure why Simon Castro was pulled early...he didn't give up a run. Maybe on a pitch count, and he did have 3 walks. Strange season for him. Castro just returned to Bham from a rehab start at Bristol. Pitch count.

I can't remember the last time I saw Dunn ground out to third. That was almost surreal. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 08:24 PM) It's not like they are going to have Barnum and Hawkins in the Carolina League to start 2013. I said it before, but I think Hawkins will start for Winston-Salem. The way he's handling Kannapolis, the Sox history, the fact that Winston-Salem's park should help Hawkins all point to it not being crazy. Ryan Sweeney started his first full season in Winston-Salem after being drafted out of high school. -

Thompson pushing his way back into consideration

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 06:07 PM) Weird way to look at it. Thompson, up until this year, was a year per level, and in fact repeated A- (and played 2 years in Rookie leagues). So I wouldn't exactly call promoting him to AA 1.5 months earlier that standard to be "day trading". Yeah I was fully expecting them to say it's been the opposite with Thompson after that build up. -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 24, 2012 -> 09:44 AM) So taking a threadjacking opportunity... Where would people now rate the Sox system vs the rest of baseball? Still at the bottom? The depth might be a bit better, but I'm not so sure. I think it's still in the bottom tier because of the lack of a true top prospect. No one will be in the top 100 unless scouts liked what they saw from Hawkins this summer.
-
Hawkins with a bomb in his first AB. Living up to top prospect billing lately.
-
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 23, 2012 -> 03:00 PM) Conflicts with other reports about being average in CF (I think KG, said that), but from what I had heard previous to this year, defense was one of his calling cards. So at least KLaw wasn't negative about Trayce. I will say Stubbs is a pretty bad player and seriously hopes he isn't like him. Thompson has more power than Stubbs has ever shown so that's a big difference. If Drew Stubbs hit 25 HR every year he'd be a solid player.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 10:16 PM) Yeah, but until Sanchez is hitting .300+ in the majors, I'm not going to expect anything. Who says he has to hit .300? I'll take an empty .280.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Aug 22, 2012 -> 09:49 PM) Still seems like he is just an empty average guy. I'm not holding my breath. If he can play defense as good as advertised isn't that an upgrade over what the Sox currently have?

Charlotte off Barons won 11-7 Thompson 2-4, 2 BB Petricka got rocked Dash won 7-2 in 11 Walker pulled with hand injury Bassitt with a nice start Intimidators lost 5-4 Hawkins 1-4, 3B, K Orem @ Voyagers Parrent with 9 Ks Bristol lost 9-0 Olacio with a decent start
-
It's good to see him get pushed, but I'm fairly sure this wouldn't be happening if the Knights weren't going to be in the playoffs.

Barons game 2 Orem @ Voyagers Bristol game 2

QUOTE (hammerhead johnson @ Aug 21, 2012 -> 02:35 PM) That's not a counter-argument, son. Dayan Viciedo will never put up a good enough OBP to justify having a starting gig on a major league roster. He's going to hit ~25 HR in his first full season in MLB and he's got a plus arm in the OF. He'll be a starter for a long time on a Major League roster.
