QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Oct 9, 2012 -> 10:38 PM) Wilkins homers. Thompson singles in two runs and walks. Sanchez singles in first three ABs. Sanchez is 1-3 with a walk and a strikeout.

QUOTE (floridafan @ Oct 9, 2012 -> 08:14 PM) Is there a place to view the nightly stats and outcome of the games? Live gameday for tonight and every other game. Also check the AFL's homepage for schedule/stats/info. I don't know about instructional league, however. I think you're on your own for that one.

Carlos Sanchez playing second and batting second for Salt River in the opener tonight. Wilkins (1B) and Thompson (RF) also in the lineup.

Jozy is the first major US roster exclusion since, what, John Harkes? That thought makes me laugh. -

Interesting pair of calls against Ohio State. The Nebraska WR gets a deep ball and stiff arms 2 defenders to the facemask, pulls one of them, and the refs only call the facemask on the second defender (who already had a hand in his face). How do refs miss calls like these? -
Trayce came in 18th on Baseball America's top 20 Carolina League prospects behind Carlos Sanchez and Erik Johnson. I'm kind of surprised he slipped behind Johnson, but the national audience still seems to think his strikeouts are too big of a red flag.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 5, 2012 -> 09:41 AM) The guy was rated as a first round prospect before he put on a bunch of muscle weight and lost effectiveness. It isn't about his rookie ball stats at all. It shouldn't be about rookie ball stats for anyone. Such a mix of player experience and talent level in the rookie leagues. -
QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 5, 2012 -> 12:19 AM) I use my phone and Google Wallet to pay for drinks/food at vending machines once in a while. If I had a car and bought gas all the time, I can also think of a good use for it. NFC hasn't really taken off yet. As for sharing stuff by touching phones, I've done that a few times before. You need to know a person who has such a phone first (not too easy). But it's pretty convenient. I needed a friend of mine to test something on his phone at work. I found him, tapped phones while my phone was running said application, bam, he got directed to the Play Store where he downloaded the app in a few seconds. He was on his way out too, so that saved him some time as opposed to looking the application up in the Play Store, etc. I'm not talking against NFC in general, but sharing photos or something is ridiculously easy via a text message as is. It just doesn't seem like a major selling factor for a phone yet I see it in commercials.

QUOTE (flippedoutpunk @ Oct 4, 2012 -> 11:29 PM) All the gimmicky stuff like sharing files through touching phones doesnt do anything for me Does that do anything for anyone? Not only do you need the scenario to actually use it, but you also need someone that has the same phone/OS. I never understood why phones advertise that. I've used bump with my iphone a couple times and once I got past the neatness of it I kind of thought it was dumb.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Oct 4, 2012 -> 04:08 PM) This was probably true 20 years ago. Enthusiastic isn't what I'd call Hawk these days. Obnoxious is probably a better adjective. That's the same thing people say about Dick Vitale. Vitale has done great things for college basketball, but people outgrow him. That doesn't mean he's still not bringing people into the game. I don't understand how so many Sox fans can hate Hawk Harrelson. He IS the White Sox as far as I'm concerned.

QUOTE (WHarris1 @ Oct 3, 2012 -> 08:10 AM) Illini football sure does bring the LOLz. Naturally they were all out last night Saturday night anyway I don't mean this as a slam, but it got me thinking. Do they still get special treatment after a 28 point loss to La. Tech? Can the underage players still drink at a bar? I mean there has to be a point where they go from celebrities to being an embarrassment. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 09:01 PM) Thanks, that's one more piece of info than I had before on Leyer. The Kanny twitter posted impressive velos for pitchers. Daniel Webb was throwing upper 90s out of the pen in the 2nd half of the season. -

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 2, 2012 -> 04:31 PM) Your Top 7 are almost identical to mine, but the last three we have nothing in common. I can see all three of those guys having a good argument over Shirek just based on potential... but over Hansen and Brennan? What kind of scouting info have you found on Leyer, if any? Would love to know more about him. Leyer has a 92ish fastball if I recall. Plus he's still 19. Olacio had a mid 90s fastball and is 18. Brennan is right behind at 11. -

QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Sep 29, 2012 -> 08:00 AM) I don't remember Hawaii ever having a 6-6, 7-5 type season. Seems like they're usually 2-10 and then out of nowhere they have a 11-1 season. Actually, it's the opposite. They haven't been 2-10 or bad in a while and three of the last five years they've finished with 6 or 7 wins. They've made 7 bowls since 2002. It's the WAC, but they've been a fairly consistent program. -
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 27, 2012 -> 10:27 PM) Yeah, I see that now. But the bookstore worded it so carefully that it basically came out as "required." That and I'm pretty sure someone from the J-School told me it was (in retrospect, I see it's bulls***) because my parents were annoyed as well. Yeah they call it a requirement even though it's not. They do only use Macs in the classes as you know, but as long as you know how to use the OS you're fine. Anyone with any computer savvy can figure it out fairly quickly. It's definitely BS, but it's becoming more common.
-
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Sep 27, 2012 -> 08:27 PM) I had to buy it before my freshman year started. I'm now a sophomore. I had absolutely no use for it until this year. They straight up tell you that you will fall behind with a PC because they flat out won't teach it before you start your freshman year. I know the mac thing you're referring to (having gone to the same school a few years earlier), but it's not really a deal breaker. I bought a Dell the summer before I enrolled despite the 'Mac requirement' and while the first two years are mostly gen-ed courses it didn't make the slightest difference. When it got stolen out of my dorm room my sophomore year I decided to change over to Mac and am glad I did, but that had nothing to do with the curriculum or any requirement. Even if the J-school has all Macs and they teach on Mac software when applicable, you can always go to one of the many Mac computer labs that all have that software. You could have easily managed with a PC. I always found it easier to get work done on campus in a library or something anyway.

Hawkins #2 on the Appy league top prospects according to BA

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 09:14 PM) That would make me think that Hawkins will be a top 100 prospect next year, considering Bubba Starling will EASILY be one. I think his late season push could have put him over the edge. -
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 09:31 PM) I don't know if anyone here plays WoW, personally I don't, but I was wondering if anyone could explain the Kung fu panda motif they have going on I am seeing in the commercials Ha I was wondering the same thing. Seems extremely odd, even for Warcraft.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 26, 2012 -> 11:05 AM) Franklin, it's tough. He had .9 seconds to throw that game, he has a young o-line that is often just missing assignments and people are coming through untouched. And with that, as would be pretty common with a QB, he's kind of assuming how the play will go before it happens, and gives up and just decides to go with the dump off. He is really talented, but having a bad oline brings out the worst in most QBs. Franklin can't pass and defenses are realizing it. I think Berkstresser is a better pure passer, but he isn't as comfortable in the pocket and doesn't run the simply plays in the offense anywhere near as well. That's the difference an extra year in the system makes. However, next year could be an interesting QB battle. It's a shame because this looks like one of the deepest WR cores we've had in a while, maybe since Chase and Maclin. DGB has more or less been invisible and I'm still happy with our WR play. -
FIFA is out and I'm scared for my social life. The game play is fine, a solid, but not amazing improvement from 12. However, the game modes...oh my the game modes. Between career mode as a player and a manager, online be a pro, the skill challenges, online play and match day challenges I can see the next month being dedicated to pouring hours into FIFA. Seems to be by far the most feature rich FIFA ever and I've barely scratched the surface of the career mode, which usually takes most of my time.
