  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 6, 2012 -> 09:33 PM) Charlotte wins. Take 2-0 lead in best-of-5. Going back to Charlotte for the rest of the series. So I assume they'll win and have to play the PCL champion next week. Delaying more call ups. This is the IL semi. There's a best of 5 (I think, could be best of 7) against the winner of the other semi. Then that winner takes on the PCL champ in a one game playoff. As for Hawkins, what can be said. I know someone made a quip about not having a first rounder getting off to a hot start a few weeks ago. Can't say that anymore. He's the youngest in the league and tearing it up. He can start there next year with a chance to go to AA. He's the real deal.
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 5, 2012 -> 07:52 PM) All hell broke loose after Johnson gave up the hit that shouldn't have been. Oh well. Brutal. He's been so dominant, too. Guess he just hit a wall.
  3. 1. Carlos Sanchez 2. Tyler Saladino 3. Joey DeMichele 4. Marcus Semien 5. Rangel Ravelo 6. Micah Johnson 7. Nicholas Basto 8. Juan Silverio 9. Eric Grabe
  4. Voyagers lost 3-1 Nothing much of note here. Playoffs start tomorrow for Charlotte and Winston-Salem. Voyagers have two more regular season games before starting best of 3 on Friday.
  5. We have a new standard for game threads. Not really possible to match this without also scripting posters into famous movie scenes. We now need to see the Pulp Fiction version.
  6. QUOTE (Cali @ Sep 3, 2012 -> 01:10 PM) If Rienzo pitches for the Sox next year would he be the first ever Brazilian born player in the majors? He was in line for it, but Yan Gomes beat him to it this year.
  7. Today's games are the regular season finales for all 4 full season teams, which means the end of the year for Birmingham and Kannapolis.
  8. QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 2, 2012 -> 03:05 PM) I was able to watch the game. Pretty fun/boring in the second quarter. Really impressed by Berkstrasser, he was slingin those balls in there. I'm still pretty worried about playing UGA in week 2 with all of our oline injuries. YOu could tell their inexperience at picking up blitzes, most of the pressures on Franklin were guys coming in untouched. But, Murphy, Lawrence and Hansbrough in the backfield are quite the threat. I think we'll be alright without Josey. I think the team looked better than expected, but I agree about Berkstresser. He was the big surprise of the game for me. Really impressive on a couple throws and had good poise in the pocket. Obviously it's easy to have good poise in a blowout, but he showed the physical tools. Nice to know they have a competent backup if Franklin gets laid out in the middle of a run. Especially with that new rule forcing players to miss a play if their helmet comes off for something other than a face mask penalty. I also agree about having Georgia so early, but I think it will help with the fan excitement. That should help Mizzou play its best.

    2012 TV Thread

Enough of this Breaking Bad and Big Brother talk. Doctor Who anyone? I loved the premiere although as far as I'm concerned these episodes have no chance of stacking up to the upcoming Weeping Angels episode.
  10. The first LOL scoreline of the day: Youngstown St. 31, Pitt 17 in Pitt. Yikes

  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 01:18 PM) Interesting. Not sure I agree on the control part: his BB/9 was 5.1 in 2011, and it has been 3.7 in 2012. 4.1 in AA. Those 2012 numbers are really pretty decent, and he's improving his control even as he moves up. Hard to say a guy with a BB/9 under 4 on the year is having any major control issues. As for his secondary stuff, I honestly don't know much other than quips here and there that his breaking balls are a bti slushy and inconsistent. Haven't seen much detail, or anything at all recently, about it. So I'll take your word for it. His BAA this year is .205 on the full year between A+ and AA, after it being .247 in High A, so I'd have to think he's got something there. Maybe not. I wouldn't consider 4.1 BB/9 in AA good. I think he's got a good arm, but I don't see him being good enough to make it as a starter.
  15. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Aug 31, 2012 -> 08:17 AM) Not agreeing or disagreeing, but would love to know your reasoning for that. He's got a good fastball that could play up in the bullpen and his secondary stuff isn't as good. Also, his lack of consistent control makes me think he wouldn't cut it as a starter anyway.
  16. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 04:52 PM) http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=42133 I decided to read through the last few innings of that thread just to see it. I was way too nervous to properly operate my laptop to be on here for that, but good times.
  17. So Vandy almost beat a top 10 team? Wow the SEC is so good. (Ignores that South Carolina looked bad) That's how this SEC thing works right?
  18. QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 05:27 PM) The passing is better in Madden but everything else is the same or worse. The physics are a joke. When I first read that they used a similar system to the FIFA 12 physics engine I laughed. Supposedly the Madden version is a bit refined, but yeah, it's bad.
  19. QUOTE (scenario @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 09:47 PM) Don't forget he's playing in the AFL this fall. That's another 30 games of AAA level competition heavily watched by scouts. It's more like AA, but it's a mixed bag.
  20. Rienzo put up solid numbers for Birmingham. I still think he winds up in the bullpen, but he can probably handle AAA for a couple weeks.
  21. How are the Spanish champ (Real Madrid), the English champ (Man City), the German champ (Borussia Dortmund) and the Dutch champ (Ajax) in the same group. That's criminal. UEFA needs to sort this out better.
  22. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Aug 30, 2012 -> 03:30 PM) As far as I am concerned, those are the only four prospects we have. Ha yeah, there's no way I can come up with 10.
  23. Trayce posted an .899 OPS in 14 games with the Barons before earning another promotion to AAA Charlotte. Safe to call this a breakout year for him.
  24. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 29, 2012 -> 12:56 PM) I may be wrong, but I think Hawkins plays at least a couple months at Kanny next year, with little chance at Birmingham by the end. There's no rush unless they're trying to sell the public that he's the next Trout/Harper, which he probably isn't. The Sox move their prospects aggressively and he showed quite well in Kanny. I think they'll send him to Winston-Salem.
