QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 23, 2010 -> 05:02 AM) Paging Jeff... I said it before.. I LOVE that they have Nunez back in the bull-pen. De Aza has been amazing for Charlotte since he's been back. They have had a sox-like win streak themselves. (won 6 of their last 7, and 5 in a row) Hahah. It was bound to happen for Gilmore after my criticisms. That said obviously I am a Sox fan so I would love to see him go crazy and knock 20 home runs out over the second half of the season. He has the raw ability to be a big power guy.

2010 Season Preview: Bristol White Sox The Great Falls Voyagers kicked off their season yesterday, and today is the turn of the Bristol White Sox. The BriSox start their run at the Appalachian League title tonight against the Elizabethton Twins. 2009 in review: The Bristol White Sox are coming off of a disappointing 2009 season in which they finished with a 27-39 record. They finished second from bottom in the league in runs scored and OPS, with Brady Shoemaker (.351/.426/.585) and Miguel Gonzalez (.311/.385/.503) the only two players to post an OPS above .800. The pitching was better, as they finished mid pack in ERA, WHIP and SO. Steven Upchurch (3-10, 6.95 ERA) and Charlie Delk (3-7, 6.22 ERA) were low points of the '09 rotation, with Joe Serafin (4-1, 1.64 ERA) one of the better performers. The bullpen was very strong with the likes of Santos Rodriguez (1.33 ERA), Phil Negus (2.38 ERA), Brent DeFoor (2.31 ERA) and Daniel Wiltz (2.78 ERA). All in all though, the 2009 season was not one to remember for the Bristol Sox. Continued...

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 06:12 PM) Bellamy needs to at least pitch a half season in AA before I'd consider him any sort of possibility for the 2011 Opening Day roster. I was saying earlier this season, I'd like to see the trio in the back of the W-S bullpen (Bellamy, Infante, Remenowsky) all promoted to AA during the season. Infante has hit a rough patch lately though. Speaking of Infante, did people see that report of him hitting 104 on the the Dash's stadium gun? Obviously he wasn't throwing quite that hard, but he does have legit high 90's velo out of the 'pen. The system is really loaded with good relief prospects right now.

Chris Sale signs for a bargain; expected in majors this year

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 05:56 PM) The question is, do the White Sox really want to go the Andrew Miller route with Sale? I just saw Miller pitch the other day for Florida's AA team. Miller never had the command. That's the difference between the two. As a junior, Miller had a 2.92 BB/9. Sale's? 1.22 BB/9. -

One of the few legit guys from the DSL team last year. -

QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 05:09 AM) His present arm motion will have him out of the league within 5 years. Someone's drinking the Project Prospect Kool-Aid. Not nearly enough is known on the subject to make a statement like this. Sure he could be out of the league in 5 years, but so could any pitching prospect. -

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 04:56 AM) He wrote that before we drafted him, This is true QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 04:56 AM) meaning that he still liked him at that point. This is not true. He had Sale ranked 47th coming into the draft, he never liked him like others did. -

Keith Law doesn't think it's too far fetched Chris Sale, LHP, Florida Gulf Coast: I think he could pitch in the majors inside of a year as a reliever, maybe even this fall, but that’s a fantasy, as he’s going to be drafted so high that he’ll be used as a starter. And he doesn't even like Sale. -

QUOTE (girlslikebaseballtoo#26 @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 04:29 AM) Sean O'connell is in Bristol. The catcher? Nice. Didn't think he would sign. From the sounds of things he has a great arm. Can you ask Chase if Darwin Matos is there? -

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 03:54 AM) I don't know. If he gets rocked, then maybe. Some guys are fragile mentally. If he's fragile mentally, then it wouldn't matter when he failed though, would it? He's going to get rocked at some point. -

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jun 21, 2010 -> 03:38 AM) I'm less concerned with him being better than Randy Williams as I am that we'd hurt him in the long run by rushing him to the majors. You really think a couple of innings out of the bullpen is going to hurt him? -

QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 07:37 PM) It takes alot of players a while to adjust to all the junk pitches they see in AAA. It's the level where they'll see the best offspeed stuff they've ever faced in their careers. Guys who are good fastball hitters won't see many of them until they demonstrate good batting eye and plate discipline to lay off offspeed pitches just outside the strikezone. The key is to watch their adjustment. Looks like Danks may be starting to adjust. I would agree if Danks' K% had jumped form

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 07:21 PM) 10 k's in his last 35 at bats. That's actually a slight improvement for him. Some of him heating up was due anyway, simple BABIP regression. His BABIP is .340. How high do you expect it to get?

QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jun 20, 2010 -> 07:58 AM) Gilmore was not projected to be a power hitter was he? HIs OBP wold be even higher if he could take walks. Anyone peg him for AA later this year?? He was. It just hasn't happened yet.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 19, 2010 -> 07:38 PM) Laumann compared Ravelo to Mike Lowell. That's quite the compliment. 5 WAR player at his peak. I take it they don't question his ability to stick at 3B then either (unlike some). On the topic of Ravelo just posted a draft report on FutureSox: Draft Report: Rangel Ravelo -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 07:14 PM) Did they see something no one else did? They believe they have a player with mid 90's velocity and four average or better pitches. I don't thin anyone else sees Simpson that way though. The same goes for the Yankee's with Culver. They seemingly like him more than everyone else too.

QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jun 18, 2010 -> 02:04 AM) I understand that it's not going to happen all at once, but he's hit a couple HR's this week and has cut his K rate down over the same period. So yes, it is possible for his recent success to indicate that he's turning a corner at the plate. I'll have to disagree. Sure, maybe we look back at these past two games in a month or two and say that this is where he started to turn it around. But to call these two good games anything more than two good games is just overly optimistic thinking. We need to see Danks significantly cut his K% over a considerable period of time before we declare him "fixed". Also are we really calling 2-7, 2 HR "recent success"? He's hitting .184/.225/.368 over his last 10 games with 2 BB/12 SO (30% K%).
