QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 01:22 AM) Dont know much about him, from the scouting reports I found quick, sounds a lot like Aaron Poreda with more movement and less velocity. He's not at all. The only similarity is that they're both lefties. Sale has great command of 3 pitches.
-
QUOTE (OilCan @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 01:13 AM) If it is Sale, can the Sox sign him? If the Sox take him they can sign him. They do a great job scouting that stuff.
-
Chris Sale to the Sox is a Major win. Top 5 talent for me.

Keith Law brings up another possible shocker with Chance Ruffin linked to the Reds at #12.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) John Manuel had this to say about Loux: Reports of velocity up to 96 mph, but he has fringy secondary stuff and medical issues. Had elbow issue last year, and there are whispers of other medical problems. Goldstein and Frankie Piliere were saying that he's seen as the money saving option. Definitely not a legit mid 1st rounder.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 08:58 PM) Mike Leake was obviously the second-best pitcher in the Strasburg draft. So, no. The description fits Leake to a T. Polished college arm. Not a lot of upside but a very good chance to become a #3 starter. Fastball that sits 88-90. His average fastball this year has been 88.5 mph.
-
QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 05:02 PM) While I'm not enamored with most the college arms available at 13, I wouldn't be upset with them. Loux is the exception. Yuck. This is exactly how I stand too.

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 04:43 PM) *Fingers crossed for Castellanos/Wilson/Ranuado* It'd be insane if Wilson magically fell to the second round (we have no supplemental picks, right?) Not supp. first rounders. We have a supp. third rounder (pick #114) for failing to sign Morgado though.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 04:24 PM) If the Royals don't draft Grandal, that'll be fun to watch tonight. Does anyone know if MLBN is still filming the Sox for The Club? I'd love to see the behind-the-scenes of all of this. I read that they taped the war room meeting thing that they had a few days ago where they construct the draft board. If true that will be awesome to watch.

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 03:59 PM) Law's final mock is up. http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/draft2010/i...%3fid%3d5259729 Wojo is the pick. Grandal is the target. Limited interest in McGuire.

I just hope it's not Barret Loux.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 02:55 PM) If Zach Cox is available at 13, would the Sox be nuts to pass him up? Not if he's set on a $6m bonus. There are far more intelligent ways of spending that amount of money in this draft.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 06:40 AM) Cobey Guy. A senior who plays for a small school, Wichita State. Huge sleeper with big potential (though needs another pitch to become a SP which probably won't happen). Here is alittle scouting report on him. I saw him pitch against Evansville, and I was blown away. Good stuff. At worst, he becomes a solid set-up man in the future, possible closer. (actually maybe "at worst" would be a solid middle reliever... but regardless, would love to nab him in the later rounds) And no I was not aware we didn't have a supp. pick. If I was I wouldn't have kept mentioning it without someone correcting me for weeks now. Thanks thunderbolt. Commin through in the clutch! You (or anyone) got the time the draft is gonna be? I unfortunately won't be on the computer till around 4-6 CT (and not again till about 10 pm or so), so I won't give any insight this year like in past years (or in rare cases for myself, might be a good thing to not look like an idiot in 2-5 years. ) till that time probably. It's only the first 50 picks today. So you won't miss much.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 05:47 AM) I am on the Shipers, Tillman and Guy bandwagon for later picks. I also like Brown as a supp. to second/third pick for us. Guy? I have no idea who Guy is. Also you're aware we don't have a supplemental 1st rounder this year, right?
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 05:33 AM) For the later rounds, i'd like to get Michael Olt a 3b from Uconn, and i'd be fine with taking Ozney after the 5th. Speaking of Ozney. Ozzie doesn't want the Sox to draft him as a favor, he wants the team to draft him for his talent. http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/white-sox/...my-kid-as-favor Jacoby Jones is one of my favourites for the 2nd to 5th round range. He's a Boras guy and will probably be looking for a big bonus so I certainly don't expect the Sox to take him. But nevertheless, he'll be someone that I'll follow throughout his career. Ozney after the 10th maybe. You can still get some pretty good players in the 5-10 round range and it doesn't sound like Ozney is anything special.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 04:54 AM) Z. Cox is falling right now. Having a lefty hitting 3rd baseman ready in about 3 years would really suck, wouldn't it?Well he's supposedly after Pedro Alvarez money. No way he's worth that. Great hit tool but the power's not so good and no guarantee he can stick at 3B.
-
Taylor Jungmann vs. Anthony Rendon right now in the Texas/Rice game. Now that's a match-up. 2011 is going to be good.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 12:40 AM) CST you're referring to, right? Yes.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 12:37 AM) Here's a Workman scouting report from MLB.com Part of the problem is they rarely state when they (the people doing the scouting reports) saw the player or how many times they saw the player. So it's tough to gauge how much credibility to give each scouting report. That one that says plus cutter average curve. ESPN's gives the curve a 60, fastball a 55, change a 45 and doesn't even mention a cutter. Andy Seiler says Nick James at PnR scouting says he has a slider and no cutter and gives future grades of: Motion: 45/50 Fastball: 60 Curveball: 60/65 Change: 50 Slider: 50 Control: 60 Command: 45/50
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 12:37 AM) So does the actual draft start at 5 tomorrow, or is the first pick a little later?Preview show starts at 5, Nats should be on the clock at 6.
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 12:28 AM) Robbie Aviles has some pretty bad timing just went down with a partial tear of a ligament in his elbow. It may not affect him too much though. Teams don't seem to worry about those elbow injuries so much any more. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go top 5 rounds still and get paid a good chunk of change.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 12:24 AM) Does Workman even have any plus pitches? At least Wojo has two plus pitches and durability. Curve is plus. Some have it as plus-plus. Cutter may have plus potential too. It certainly looked good when I watched him. Workman's 6'5", 225. That's not a durable frame?
-
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 7, 2010 -> 12:17 AM) Nice two way-player. I can't decide whether i'd want him to pitch or hit. Any thoughts? I'd take him on the mound. Too many K's at the plate. Nice power though.
-
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 6, 2010 -> 11:59 PM) He has to be more challenged at this rate. He is 24 and still in high A. And unless you mean for XBH (gap power) then you would be wrong everytime. Gilmore has 3 homers to Escobars 2. (Escobar with only 6 less official ABs) IsoP is the better measure of power. Home runs are just home runs. Neither is exactly slugging it up but Escobar does have the edge at .099 to Gilmore's .080. Gilmore's ISO for a 3B is absolutely pathetic.
