  1. QUOTE (JPN366 @ May 7, 2010 -> 03:36 AM) Terry Doyle is following my Twitter as well as Future Sox. Dexter Carter is following FutureSox as well.
  2. Viciedo 2-3, 2B, HR. OPS up to .761 .378/.395/.730 in his last 10.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 6, 2010 -> 01:58 PM) Could people be expecting him to drop because of his representation? It could, but I think the Boras effect is overstated for players like Ranaudo. High profile high schoolers, sure, but Ranaudo doesn't have a huge amount of leverage.
  4. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 6, 2010 -> 01:02 AM) Doesn't Shelby's inability to play CF limit his potential? He really has to be like Chone Figgins with lower OBP but more power to occupy LF/DH on our roster. Then again, we DH the likes of Pierre, Kotsay and Vizquel, and he probably will put up higher OPS numbers than all three of those guys at this point in their late careers. With Shelby, you're talking 15-18 homers, lots of doubles and triples sprinkled in, streaky streaky hitting, maybe 18-24 steals??? Kind of like Ray Durham (albeit lesser version of Ray-Ray playing LF instead of 2B). The question will always be K's/contact and OBP with Shelby, yes? Fair comparison? If not, who would you compare Shelby to in terms of current power/speed combo players? 1. Who said Shelby has an inability to play CF? 2. So, nothing like Figgins then? 3. Sadly true. 4. Yes, K's/OBP/consistency has been Shelby's problem. 5. Why do people always want arbitrary comparisons? I think he can be a .250/.300/.400 type hitter at best. If you want to assign a MLB comp to that then go wild, but he has 4th/5th outfielder potential for me, with the ability to play good D all across the OF.
  5. Charlotte Knights @ Toledo Mud Hens Continuation of suspended game Charlotte Knights @ Toledo Mud Hens Winston-Salem Dash @ Frederick Keys Sauer starting. Kannapolis Intimidators @ Lexington Legends Hopps starting
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 4, 2010 -> 01:43 AM) Charlotte in a rain delay, Viciedo 1/1, now up to .275 with 719 OPS. Morel (homer) and Shirek star for BIRM in first game of DH (win)...Shirek's closing in on the Prospect Hot Sheet. Trayce Thompson has a base knock for the #3 cars, sitting at .286 with 8 RBI's. 1st homer on the year for Morel.
  7. QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 4, 2010 -> 12:00 AM) Harvey has pitched tremendously this year. His stock is way up right now. I think he is a legitimate mid to late first rounder. It's hard to get a read on Brentz. There are injury and makeup concerns, and the fact that he isn't playing the greatest competition doesn't help his stock. Though in a class that is rather weak in college bats, I could him going somewhat early to a team that needs a hitter and wants a signable pick. He should go for slot. I would be surprised if he goes any higher than the 10 spot though. I do agree that Paxton is too high on that site. I think he goes supplemental. Paxton has a first round arm, but like you say, is probably a supplemental 1st pick due to the issues he's had this year. That said, if he has a couple of good starts in the independent league he could shoot right up draft boards.
  8. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 4, 2010 -> 12:01 AM) If he really is injured then i imagine signability won't be a huge issue. He's not injured now, but may want to return to LSU for his senior year to prove he's a top 5 pick talent. Although it would be a little foolish to voluntarily put yourself up against that 2011 pitching class.
  9. Charlotte Knights @ Toledo Mud Hens Lucas Harrell starting Birmingham Barons vs. Huntsville Stars Charlie Shirek starting. Birmingham Barons vs. Huntsville Stars Winston-Salem Dash @ Frederick Keys Nevin Griffith starting Kannapolis Intimidators @ Lexington Legends Cameron Bayne starting.
  10. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ May 3, 2010 -> 11:04 PM) I can't see Ranaudo slipping out of the top 5. And to 9? i'm sure the Padres would be shocked and thrilled. Also, don't see Harvey, Brentz or Paxton going nearly that high. With Ranaudo's injury I wouldn't shocked to see him fall, but 9/10 is probably his floor. He's certainly not the slam dunk top 5 pick like he was pre-season.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 3, 2010 -> 10:59 PM) It's been posted on here before. It deserves to be posted again. AND that was against Karsten Whitson who's very legit, possible top 10 pick.
  12. QUOTE (BaseballNick @ May 3, 2010 -> 07:34 PM) This will make some of you happy. MyMLBDraft.com is a pretty informed site when it comes to the draft, and they currently have the White Sox taking Austin Wilson with the #13 pick. I love Austin Wilson, check out his tool grades from baseball beginnings' updated scouting report: GRADES (Present/Future): Hit 20/60 Power 30/80 Run 60/60 Arm 70/70 Field 40/60 Overall Future Potential: 66 Yep, that'll work.
  13. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 3, 2010 -> 04:16 AM) Mike Stanton having a season for the ages (and it's only May 2). .354/.505/.866/1.370. What's most impressive is the 25/24 BB/K ratio. Hard to believe this guy was a second rounder. And you know we'd never be able to identify a super talent like this (I know, I know. Other teams passed on him too). Just saying that the crock of s*** that was "well, the Sox haven't had a top 10 pick since 1990" is exactly that...a crock of s***. Another guy that's been making a mockery of AA is Tanner Scheppers. Small sample size (11 innings). But the numbers are beyond filthy: 11 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 19 K, .079 BAA. We're too busy drafting the Josh Phegley's of the world 6 picks earlier. Scheppers was a signability guy. Texas paid him $1.25m which is more than the Sox gave Mitchell, so it's not the same at all. Stanton was just great scouting and player development by the Marlins. He wasn't considered an elite draft prospect, Baseball America had him ranked 128th pre-draft, perfect game in the 5th round rage and he signed for more or less slot money in the 2nd round.
  14. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 3, 2010 -> 03:16 AM) Winston-Salem's offense is teh awesome. Puts up a 14 spot, seems like they put up double digits a few times in the past week. Justin Greene making me take notice. Greene needs a promotion. He's clearly too good for this level and is quite old already.
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 2, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) Oh no! Strasburg gave up 3 ER today!? I wonder if they'll use this to foolishly keep him in AA for another start. I don't have a problem with him pitching in Double-A. It doesn't make sense for the Nats to have him in the Majors now due to service time and losing that extra year of cheapness, and he's clearly too good for the minors, so does it really make much difference if he's dominating double-A lineups compared to dominating triple-A lineups?
  16. Not so good from Leesman 5 IP, 6 H, 4 ER, 3 BB, SO.
  17. Charlotte Knights @ Toledo Mud Hens Hudson starting. Birmingham Barons vs. Hunsville Stars - Postponed Winston Salem Dash @ Wilmington Blue Rocks Leesman starting Kannapolis off
  18. QUOTE (SoxAce @ May 2, 2010 -> 05:19 AM) Tim Melville (who I loved comming out) gettin rocked so far in High A. Still very young for the league though. I really liked him coming out, too. Traded for him this past offseason in my keeper league in fact. His fastball command is supposedly very inconsistent.
  19. Seth Loman with a home run, that's now three straight games with a HR for him and 6 in his last 10 games.
  20. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 1, 2010 -> 09:34 PM) Yeah. Would have cost us a lot to keep him. Looks like it wasn't the biggest loss ever. From what I've heard he wasn't after much more than slot money, but the Rios/Peavy acquisitions meant the money wasn't there to do it.
  21. QUOTE (dasox24 @ May 1, 2010 -> 09:32 PM) FutureSox twitter (which by the way is great. So, everyone, if you don't follow it... you should)... My completely unbiased opinion agrees with this statement http://twitter.com/FutureSox
  22. Great play by Dash outfielder Justin Greene. Watch it. http://bit.ly/d3AMK5
  23. Waaaaaaaayyyyyyyy too early for this. It's been a great first month, that's for sure. But chances are he'll perform to his previous level for the next five months, and that certainly won't be good enough for the Cy Young.
