  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 05:21 PM) How many of these college players do you/we actually get to see play? I doubt anyone on here has seen Loux pitch, and after seeing him in the first inning, all I was saying is that I hope Workman/Wojo are better than he is (especially given his injury background).Nothing like basing an opinion on all of 1 inning pitched.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 05:11 PM) Law has us taking Wojo. BTW, B. Loux is pitching on ESPNU right now. Count me out as unimpressed. Shocking. You dislike someone the White Sox are interested in. Even if they ended up with Bryce Harper you'd probbaly find a way to b**** about it.
  3. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 4, 2010 -> 02:42 AM) Deck is way better than those guys. Harvey seems like a lock for Arizona right now. Keep in mind that the guy on fanhouse yesterday seemed 100 percent sure the Sox wouldn't take McGuire. Yep. Unfortunately any "safe" arm is going to be compared to Broadway/McCulloch because, well, it's easy.
  4. 13 hits already for the Dash in 6 innings. 2 hits apiece for Escobar, Gilmore, Loman and Garcia. 3 hits and 5 RBI for Logan Johnson.
  5. Nate Jones got hammered: 2.2 IP, 11H (4 2B), 8 R (5 ER), 2 BB, 2 SO.
  6. 18 year old outfielder Maurizio Buda goes 3-3, 2B, BB for the DSL Sox.
  7. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 02:47 AM) Apparently, Rendon was drafted in the 27th round by the Braves in 2008. I wish we had half the scouting team that they have. Hmmm. Rendon was well known and highly thought of in 2008, but just had a strong Rice commitment. The Braves took a late flyer on him in the off chance that he decided to sign, but obviously that didn't happen. I wouldn't call it a great scouting job on behalf of the Braves. That said, the Braves have done a great job scouting latin America recently with arms such as Julio Teheran (2nd best pitching prospect in the minors right now for my money), Randall Delgado and Robinson Lopez coming through the system.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 3, 2010 -> 02:35 AM) I think you promote Flowers and hope he can catch up to the speed of the big leagues. If not, then he won't be in your plans for next season. This may be the worst way you could handle the Flowers/future catcher situation.
  9. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 08:42 PM) Workman has a bit more upside then some of the previous "safe picks" we've taken. I like him, i'd prefer a couple people to him, but i see Workman as one of the first arms from this years drafts to make the majors. I wouldn't be unhappy with Workman. He's not a real exciting guy, but it could be worse. I'm still hoping for Harvey though if they go the college pitcher route. He fits the direction they seem to be going recently of the higher upside college player, too.
  10. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 2, 2010 -> 07:22 PM) I have a question about this. If a team drafts a player but is unable to sign them, do they get some sort of protected right to draft him again the next year? I ask because I was thinking, couldn't players and agents otherwise just ignore teams they don't like one year, and then wait to go out the next year? My understanding is that the player would have to agree for the team to draft him again
  11. Just browsing around collegesplits I saw C.J. Cron, drafted by the Sox in '08 (44th round), and son of Chris Cron has a park/schedule adjusted .580 wOBA and 1.391 OPS at Utah. Ridiculous. He's second in the country behind Grandal in both those stats. I guess that makes him a 2011 guy to watch.
  12. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 01:51 AM) Thanks. I'd be happy with McGuire. Me too. I'm not a massive McGuire fan, but I like him more than the other college pitchers rumored to be in the mix.
  13. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jun 1, 2010 -> 01:37 AM) ESPN Insider's, does Law's new mock offer anything new and insightful? Not really. It's the same three names as last week (Barrett Loux, Deck McGuire and Asher Wojciechowski). McGuire is the pick, whose stock Law says is slipping.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ May 29, 2010 -> 06:58 PM) I watched some videos on MLB.com of Asher and Workman, and I'm not impressed with either, to be honest. Workman's secondary pitches seemed very mediocre, and his fastball is in the low 90s. Castellanos' video was pretty impressive, as he was reaching the warning track at Wrigley without even swinging hard. Well we all know there's nothing more accurate than video clip scouting. Workman's curve is considered borderline plus-plus, and one of the best curve's in the draft class.
  15. From Frankie Piliere's latest mock:
  16. Not a huge amount of notable performances. Viciedo homered, Shoemaker had a 2 HR game, Hudson was mediocre (5 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 SO).
  17. Charlotte 8, Indianapolis 4 Charlotte 2, Indianapolis 3 Birmingham 5, Huntsville 6 Winston-Salem 2, Kinston 5 Kannapolis 7, Charleston 1 Kannapolis 6, Charleston 10
  18. Escobar 3-3 with a 2B so far.
  19. QUOTE (DirtySox @ May 28, 2010 -> 10:02 PM) Jim Callis Mock Draft 2.0 In the comments Callis rules out Harvey due to the Boras connection and adds Wimmers/Workman/Eibner to the list of possibilities. The pick was Asher Wojciechowski, for those who don't feel like clicking.
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 26, 2010 -> 04:11 PM) That'd be somethin' if Wilson fell all the way to the Phillies. Some caution for those dead set on wanting Wilson:
  21. The statistics only, college player draft board from Jeff Sackman of Minor League/College splits. http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/article/...#When:10:20:11Z Not a great year for the numbers. Drew Pomeranz at the top of the board only gets a 71 (out of 100). Catcher Yasmani Grandal is second at 70.
  22. Jared Mitchell to represent Sox at the draft http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...sp&c_id=cws
  23. Just the two games today: Charlotte Knights vs. Columbus Clippers Harrell starting Kannapolis Intimidators @ Savannah Sand Gnats Bayne starting.
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 24, 2010 -> 11:49 PM) Only because Carlos Quentin has been so ungodly bad. And Pierre has been tearing it up? Jones had a nice first month but he's coming back down to earth now. I'd certainly take Swish over both Pierre and Jones from here on out. You may not like Swisher due to his poor performance and antics with the club, but let's not pretend that he's not a good player.
