QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 09:10 AM) Awesome that Petricka, Reed, and Royce all signed already. Let's get those guys in the system as soon as possible. Yeah, always nice to see them sign quickly. I threw up a quick singing bonuses vs. my estimated slot bonuses for those three and Ravelo on FutureSox http://bit.ly/9keXzQ Also been writing a bunch of draft reports on the top guys that I may as well link to here: Matthew Grimes Andrew Wilkins Tyler Saladino Josef Terry Kevin Moran Ross Wilson Randall Thorpe Ozney Guillen Ben Griset, Brad Salgado and Conrad Gregor -

Also nice to see they got Hollis signed. Not a big name obviously there in the 33rd round, but he has a good, live arm. -

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 10:40 PM) Does Bristol and Great Falls start their season sometime this month? And is it usually just filled with the draftees? Yes and yes. There will be some of last years draftees on both teams plus some from the DSL team, but there will also be lots of '10 draft picks. Great Falls play their first game on the 21, Bristol the 22nd. -
QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 05:03 PM) I don't know. He's really pushing this nickname and it doesn't make a lot of sense to most of us. This might help you out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z9lg6HqJeY0 I like the nickname personally.

Several updates from BA: Jacob Petricka signed, $540,000 Addison Reed signed, $358,200 Thomas Roye bonus, $263,500 Rangel Ravelo signed, $125,000 -
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 16, 2010 -> 05:06 AM) Santos Rodriguez.. has improved every month. His June is just ridiculous with his peripherals. Yeah 13 SO/1 BB in 8.2 June IP. 19 SO/2 BB in his last 13.2 IP. That works nicely.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 07:42 PM) Agreed on Cubans being free swingers, Dayan however is still so young he will become more patient with time. I wouldn't be so sure about that. Plate discipline traditionally doesn't improve drastically from year to year. He'll likely improve a bit, but I don't expect him to ever get the BB% up to the 8% range unless he become a big time slugger and starts getting pitched around.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jun 15, 2010 -> 06:42 PM) His FIP is at 4.45 and an xFIP of 4.24. That's the best indicator of future success and according to those numbers you're going to see that ERA come WAY down as the year goes on. The best outlook is Gavin Floyd: 3.80 FIP and 3.97 xFIP. There's been a lot of bad luck with our starters this season, we should be in for a big hot streak. On the flip side it's also worth noting that Danks has a 4.16 xFIP vs. his 3.27 ERA. Buehrle and Garcia are performing more or less at the level they should be so I wouldn't exactly say the pitching is set for a "big hot streak".

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 02:09 AM) Fangraphs updated UZR for catchers significantly this year. Not for catchers. They've updated UZR, but they're still only using rSB (Stolen Base Runs Saved) for catchers in their WAR values.
-
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 13, 2010 -> 11:03 PM) Morel really really struggling, something like 6 or 7/42 so far out of the gate. Might have been rushed a bit. Morel's doing what he does; putting the ball in play at a great rate. He's not a player struggling, just a player getting unlucky. His luck adjusted line (.298/.316/.349) is more or less what he was doing at Birmingham (luck adjusted) minus a little power.
-
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 14, 2010 -> 02:03 AM) Really, he's still working in AAA. His slow start shows that. He didn't start the season off like Stras. I have to disagree there. The peripherals, or the process, is always more important than the results when it comes to predicting future success. Dan Hudson has been fine all year. The reason he didn't start the season off like Strasburg? Simple, he's no Strasburg.

Ethan Icard signs (13th round). He will report to Bristol on Wednesday. http://www2.hickoryrecord.com/content/2010...ite-sox/sports/ -
Dan's got the FutureSox draft tracker rolling with info on all these later round guys. Griset and Salgado in particular sound like interesting prospects if they're signable. http://bit.ly/d2MMXf

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 03:35 AM) Reality is...it's probably his family matters that contributed to him plummeting. It may have been a contributing factor, but teams do like to draft players with good bloodlines. Ozney just isn't a good prospect. He was expected to be drafted in the late teens to early 20's and he's expected to go to college.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 9, 2010 -> 12:37 AM) FYI, Ga Tech source tells me they don't expect Grimes to ever play college baseball. That's what I like to hear.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 11:37 PM) Sounds like Keegan has great speed and hits to all fields. Where did you hear this?
-
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 10:05 PM) RD 18: Randall Thorpe, OF, San Jacinto JUCO, a redraft. The Sox took Thorpe in the 29th round in 2008. He had great speed and defensive ability then, not sure about now

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 8, 2010 -> 08:59 PM) Cubs got Austin Reed. Didn't you like him Jeff? No. That wasn't me.
