  1. I just don't understand the negative attitude towards productive minor leaguers.
  2. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 10:51 AM) Saturday night at 7:00 PM EDT - that's 5:oo PM in Gods Country- the Civil Rights Game is the MLB Channel's game of the night Sunday the Sox and Cincy are on WGN See you all on the TV At least you don't live in Wyoming.
  3. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 09:42 AM) I think of all the Barons he is ready to jump to AAA and then possibly a Sep call up. He has been very solid the past 2 years with an average of 12-15 homers (This year he can reach 20) and possibly 100 RBI´s. HIs average has hovered between 260-280 all year and his career average seems to come in at about 260. Not bad at all. JP how is his defense in RF? Is he a possible replacement for Dye in 2011 or do we try him in LF if CQ does notheel properly. He seems to have a pretty decent OBP (330-360) and I think has a quiet demeanor. Thoughts He's definitely an under the radar talent who could be good in the majors. He's on pace this year for 25 HR and 100 RBI. He always sees a lot of pitches every at bat. He is actually very good defensively in RF, and he can play LF. He's for sure a typical corner outfielder, no CF. He always gives 100% and takes things seriously. He's got tremendous opposite field power, power to center and to left. He can tattoo homers, or hit ones that just keep carrying. Good all around ballplayer and has great character.
  4. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 09:46 AM) It's not a crap argument. The crap argument is making negative comments about a guy's 'hand-eye coordination'; comparing him to other teams' failed prospects; etc., without any freaking evidence. What the hell is that? IMO the referenced post was nothing more than typical 'our prospects suck until they prove otherwise' garbage. But I AM willing to change my mind (and even apologize) if somebody has something other than 1/3 of a season of stats to back it up. (That's why JPN's input is so valuable. He actually does see people play on a regular basis. If he said somebody has lousy hand-eye coordination, I'd buy it because he has something to base it on.) Sorry for coming off as so critical. I just don't get why some people trash prospects based on 'opinions' (which they state as facts) when they have very little to no evidence to back them up. I'd expect that stuff on some other boards, but not on SoxTalk. Well, you have the people who trash the guys who are struggling, and disregard the ones who are having success. I wonder how some would have reacted to Evan Longoria if he had been in the White Sox organization. Would they have been saying, "it's just AA" when he had a great season for Montgomery in 2007?
  5. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 11:41 PM) I'm sorry, but I absolutely hate this argument. Most of us have seen very little of him, and everything is based on stats, scouting reports, and shot clips or a game or two in ST we saw them in. It's mainly opinion at this point. You disagree, fine, I really don't care. However, it'd make a lot more sense if you went with an argument involving stats, referencing scouting reports, and the little you have seen of him. The argument saying "how many times have you actually seen him play" is crap unless your JPN and have seen about half of his games this year. 32 games to be exact. Anyway, I know statistically Treybone is struggling. But really the only glaring thing is his batting average. The only thing I've learned from that is that he just isn't a leadoff hitter. His average is higher NOT hitting leadoff. His numbers went up as soon as Danks took over the 1 hole. Last year especially it was just him and Retherford leading the offense. All in all, I don't get the Shelby disgust. It's really unwarranted, the guy's a good ballplayer, he's allowed to struggle when he's put in a spot that just doesn't fit him. You take a middle of the order hitter, move him to the 1 hole, then bump him down to the 7, 8 or 9 hole, then back up, he's going to be inconsistent. He's an aggressive RBI guy, he either needs to hit 2nd, or back in the bottom three. He has been clutch a lot this year FYI.
  6. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 07:13 PM) Sox pitching prospects on fire! Carlos Torres with a rain-shortened perfect game last night. Levi Maxwell threw a no-hitter for Winston-Salem today. Have we ever had two prospects throw no-hitters on consecutive days before? And three in one season.
  7. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 10:11 PM) So... help me out here. I'm willing to be influenced. What do you know about his pitch recognition, strike-zone management, and hand-eye coordination? Where do you get that information from? And how many times have you actually seen him play? He's spent most of the season hitting leadoff, of course his numbers are down. He was a 2, 3 or 4 hitter in 2007-2008. He's still on pace for 12 HR and 55 RBI.
  8. QUOTE (tommy @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 02:55 PM) He plays LF/CF with Q shut down for the year and Podsednik being the leadoff man, we DFA Wise. Wise is the roster vampire, it won't happen.
  9. QUOTE (tommy @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) What do we give up for him? Maybe Josh Fields?
  10. QUOTE (tommy @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 02:33 PM) What do we give up for him? Hmmm...Kyle McCulloch?
  11. QUOTE (tommy @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 02:20 PM) I think this was brought up before. Looking at Cardinals it makes sense because their outfield is pretty crowded with Duncan, Ludwick, Ankiel, and Rasmus, one of them becomes somewhat expandable. No Thanks. What if he came cheap?
  12. I don't know if anyone else saw this last night on MLB Network, but they had Ken Rosenthal on. He suggested, and I'm guessing this is pure speculation on his part, that the White Sox trade for Rick Ankiel. Thoughts?
  13. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 11:16 AM) Has his delivery changed much? When I saw him pitch down in Spring Training in a minor league game he really had a delivery reminiscent of Dotel. I liked his velocity but he didn't have much movement the day I saw him and couldn't control anything. That said he definately has the velocity you can't teach. It's not exactly side arm, slightly three quarter.
  14. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 10:22 AM) Somebody ought to write Kroeger and suggest he hire you as his agent. The list of players in the minors who could be more productive than Dewayne Wise is long.
  15. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 02:28 AM) Does he have good location? I really hope based on your first comment about his slider down and away and that potentially his FB has heavy sink this is a very good arsenal to take to AAA at some point. The sinker if it is heavy will be excellent at the Cell and at Charlotte (Both hitter friendly). Wonder if he has any offspeed stuff or how is his curve? Sorry just excited about Nunez since he came over. I know you are not too high on him but he has had a great year in rellief. I saw a video on Youtube of him working the count on Matt Laporta and it was only from a high up behind home plate angle. His delivery is a bit awkward. It's not that I don't like him, he just doesn't wow me, but that really doesn't matter. It's all about the numbers. Location wise, my point of view is from the first base side, so I can really only tell up and down. I know he keeps the ball down though because I haven't seen him get shelled. I think his only pitches are the fastball, sinker and slider. He certainly earned that win last night as he pitched excellently. He kept the Barons in the game and gave them the opportunity to win it in the 9th.
  16. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jun 19, 2009 -> 01:03 AM) Nunez was pretty much lights out last night. JP did you see the game? He picked up the win in relief of Harrell. 2.2 inning of 1 hit ball and 6 K's. I wonder if he is for real and the Sox can call him up next year after maybe the rest of the year in AAA ball. I for one feel if he pitches the next 5 weeks at BHam the way he has been he will be ready for Charlotte. He could be the middle reliever (7th/8th innings) for the Sox sometime next year. Good to have a good number of hard throwing righties to work with a various levels. Maybe his confidence has changed for the better with this change of scenery. I wonder if he is in line to be looked at as a starter again? His WHIP is excellent based on his K/BB rate. I am starting to think he may be a diamond in the rough who is getting better and better. JP how high has his fastball gotten on the speedmeter? Yes, I was there. His fastball was topping out at 96.
  17. Infielder Luis Sierra and RHP Murillo Gouvea were promoted to Kanny to take the last two open roster spots. There's still one open in W-S, but B'ham and Charlotte are full up now.
  18. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 09:14 PM) Bad defense by Gartrell and Viciedo led to four unearned runs for Harrell. Barons trail 4-3 going to the 9th It was Retherford's fault, it was Gartrell's ball.
  19. QUOTE (daggins @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 07:31 PM) Marrero homered on the first pitch of his first at bat. Nice. Off the scoreboard too.
  20. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 07:26 PM) Torres starting for the Knights Corky Miller DHing, find that kinda funny. What else is he going to do? Catch? Like I said, you could have him as a third catcher/DH, or David Cook who can play LF, CF, RF & DH. Or hell, even Dewayne Wise. I don't want to hear the numbers game crap in regard to David Cook when the big fat number is Corky Miller as the third catcher.
  21. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 08:55 PM) First off, I was the first one who got on the Huddy bandwagon. Just wanted to clear it up Also, with Allen, I think it's a legit possibility we see PK go on the DL sometime within in the next 2 weeks (depending on he and the team are doing) and Allen getting called up (if he's hitting at AAA, I wouldn't be surprised to see him mash while playing in Charlotte's stadium). Considering how he reacted to his promotion last year, and in a hitter friendly park, yeah, he'll mash in Charlotte.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 07:33 PM) JPN can probably give a better scouting report as I've seen him pitch much less than he has. Haven't seen him yet, his first start I'll see is probably Saturday.
  23. KW Jr. got activated from the DL and takes one of the open roster spots in Kanny.

    Soxtalk Pets

I have a mini dachsund named Pete. We have a chain of hot dog joints here in Alabama called Sneaky Pete's, that's where I got the idea for the name, since he's a weenie dog. He's an awesome dog, got the heart of a lion, smart as can be. My wife and I adore him and he loves us back just as much.
  25. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 04:36 PM) It is kind of nice to have your catcher, be your teams field leader. Do they pick captains in the minor leagues? I also like how we’re going to be putting a lot of these kids in to a playoff position. It must be very exciting to be part of the Dash, get called up a level, and know that you’re expected to contribute to one of the top two teams of the entire AA. They may, but I'm not sure who might be the Barons captain.
