  1. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 04:13 PM) What’s cool is that this puts Flowers in the position to lead this team. I can’t wait to see how he responds. He seems to have the poise to do it.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 03:42 PM) Allen must be in the Sox plans at some point this year. They probably want to see how he handles AAA pitching rather than sending a non-prospect up there. Although I agree Cook should be there, if it was one or the other I agree with their decision. There's room for Cook in AAA, Corky Miller is taking up a roster spot for no reason. I imagine once Jordan Danks comes off the DL, Miller will be released and Cook will finally go up to Charlotte.
  3. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 03:29 PM) Why isn't Cook in AAA? I just don't get it. The great White Sox mystery...why aren't Wise and Cook in AAA.
  4. QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 03:21 PM) Well there goes the Barons awesome team they started with haha... I don't like Danks going on the DL. What the hell, you said he was gonna be alright!! Haha I guess they're not pushing him too hard, let him heal up and be 100%.
  5. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 03:08 PM) I've never understood the 24 at AAA and AA. Actually, in the Southern League up until a year or so ago, most of the season the teams could only have 23 active. Brandon Allen to AAA, Danks to DL.
  6. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 01:29 PM) Oh ok, I don't understand why they have different numbers for different levels. I've never understood the 24 at AAA and AA. Actually, in the Southern League up until a year or so ago, most of the season the teams could only have 23 active.
  7. QUOTE (Nunnigan @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 01:17 PM) Pick your poison. Would you rather pitch to Mauer with nobody onbase, or to Morneau with Mauer onbase? Pitch around both.
  8. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 01:24 PM) Just goes to show which teams are better about keeping things updated. The Kanny roster (with the 3 guys moved up already taken off) is still somehow at 22. You would think it has to be at most 21 unless there was a corresponding move, but I don't see anything. Anybody else? Someone come off the DL? Kanny and W-S can have 25 active. W-S still has only 24 active with the additions and subtractions.
  9. Northside, can you sticky this thread so we can use it in the future?
  10. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 12:56 PM) As of yesterday, Charlotte had 2 open roster spots, with Omogrosso taking one. They are severly short handed on position players though, so the other one will go to an infielder or outfielder. Birmingham had 1 open spot with Omogrosso going up, and Winston-Salem had 1 that has been available for a week. Two players from B'ham have to move up with the promotions of Cruz, Hudson & Marrero. My money's on Gartrell and Cook, sad to see them go, but they deserve and earned it. That means at least one player in Charlotte's getting the outright boot. Corky Miller? He was just activated, maybe they are releasing him outright since he's not all that versatile.
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 01:00 PM) Ex-girlfriends tend to think that of their ex's. Well, it's not impossible that it's true. Are you defending Joe Mauer?
  12. The link's no good anymore, I guess they removed him from their website.
  13. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 12:03 PM) How many available roster spaces do all 4 of the affiliates have? I assume Birmingham has to move 2-3 guys up, does Charlotte have any open spaces? I assume we'll see Phegley and Mitchell in Kanny to replace some of the guys that moved up. As of yesterday, Charlotte had 2 open roster spots, with Omogrosso taking one. They are severly short handed on position players though, so the other one will go to an infielder or outfielder. Birmingham had 1 open spot with Omogrosso going up, and Winston-Salem had 1 that has been available for a week.
  14. QUOTE (High Mileage @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 12:30 PM) 1 for 4 yesterday, now batting .425 No. When teams realize that they should pitch around him and take their chance with the rest of the lineup, his numbers will drop. Bonus tidbit...a girl who was a waitress out at Regions Park back in 2006 was originally from Minnesota. Her sister had dated Mauer, and she said that he was a complete jerk.
  15. Looks like Lee Cruz is coming up to B'ham too. That means more players from B'ham are going up to Charlotte. I guess they're finally dumping the duds in Charlotte.
  16. Looks like Seth Loman, Justin Edwards & Tyler Kuhn have been promoted to Winston-Salem. Daniel Hudson & Christian Marrero are headed for Birmingham. David Cook may be going up to Charlotte, watch this space.
  17. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 07:23 AM) Our first undrafted FA, huh? Always fun to see how those work out. I think he just qualifies as a free agent. He's already played pro ball.
  18. From the Windy City Thunderbolts of the Frontier League. He's a Bama native and went to FAU. Probably headed for Kanny. Brandon Kloess
  19. QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 01:06 AM) Well, that doesn't sound too good... He was signing autographs and he caught the ceremonial first pitches, so I doubt it's much to worry about.
  20. QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 08:51 PM) JP, how good has Jhonny been down in Bham? I have been fowlooing him as well via milb.com and his stats are very good this year. He has a 44/18 rate in K's to BB's in 36 innings pitched with a WHIP of 1.42. Not bad. I checked his farm stats with the Yanks prior to coming over in the Swisher trade and man he stunk it up when starting. He seems far more comfortable in the pen role. Even has two saves. Most upside links say he relies mostly on the fastball. Again JP any observations on whether he has seconday stuff? He is young (22/23) so maybe another year in AA/AAA and he will be ready for a try in the bigs late next year? I think now we have a surplus of power lefties in the pen. Maybe he could be a valueable chip next year? Thoughts He throws some kind of slider, I think it moves away from righties and in on lefties. He has a hard sinker that pops the glove to go with his fastball. I'd say his long term outlook is more of a 6th inning/7th inning guy, or a 2 to 3 inning reliever. I think he definitely needs to establish a role before he gets a serious look in the bigs. He should stay here the rest of the year, and start 2010 in Charlotte. He's never seemed all that impressive to me, so I wouldn't hope for much. But, he could have a future as a middle reliever. If he doesn't flop, he could vie for a full time roster spot in 2011.
  21. QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 07:49 PM) Did we ever get an update about JorDanks? Injury? He was wearing a velcro brace on his right wrist today.
  22. FYI, Jordan Danks had a velcro brace on his right wrist.
  23. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 04:42 PM) Been following DHudson pretty closely each start and his progress is impressive. But I don't know jack about him other than the more than one year old reports before last year's draft. Who can tell me how this guy projects and stacks up within our system? What's his ceiling, comparable current MLBer? Would you say that he's possibly our best pitching prospect in the system, if Poreda sticks with the big club? I know that many are high on Upchurch - does he have the highest ceiling, though a bigger unknown as he's just getting into pro-ball? I wish we had a JPN366 equivalent in Winston-Salem. I always appreciate the direct observations he provides from B'Ham. E-mail Ed Collari, the announcer for Winston-Salem. He's very friendly and will answer questions for people. He passes on a lot of info to me. [email protected]
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) Do you think he will be the next minor league starter recalled now that Poreda is here (if needed)? He's got wicked stuff, he could be a useful swingman or a deadly reliever. Definitely.
  25. QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 02:36 PM) Making room for Huddy in B-Ham? Most likely Matt Long takes his rotation spot and Wander Perez or Hector Santiago comes up from W-S. The Barons have no lefties in the rotation or pen.
