  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 04:15 PM) I wonder how close to the big leagues this kid is now? A month in AAA and he should be ready.
  2. Heard the rumor at the park, confirmed on AL.com.
  3. QUOTE (beautox @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 10:17 PM) Nice little piece on the barons http://mlb.mlb.com/media/video.jsp?content_id=5061737 Won't play for me.
  4. I'll be honest, I grew up a Chicago sports fan. But, I didn't grow up in Chicago, I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. I liked all the teams, I lost interest in the Bears after a while and solely became a Seahawks fan. They were my favorite AFC team, Bears were my favorite NFC team. I liked the Bulls and the Blackhawks, the Cubs and the White Sox. Both teams were on WGN all the time, so I watched as much as I could. Having a AA affiliate of the White Sox here in my hometown steered me more to being a fan of the White Sox though. I understand that it's a rivalry between the two, but living amongst the Alabama/Auburn rivalry, I dispise both of those teams and hope they both lose. Mostly because of the fans, Alabama fans are unbearable. I'll support the White Sox first and foremost, because I feel like part of the organization as a whole. I get to see the future of that team in person every year. But, I don't hate the Cubs. I understand that amongst Chicagoans, it's hard not to take a side. Black is always cooler than blue and red anyway.
  5. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 04:34 PM) Apparently its a massive mess and the Dash are only averaging 456 fans a game. They also layed off a ton of employees who had been hired in anticipation of the new stadium. I guess this is why they were going to stop doing radio broadcasts of all road games. They're still doing road games, it's the home games that are not being streamed.
  6. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 02:41 PM) "I report in March." - What's that about? More like a week to either Great Falls or Bristol.
  7. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 11:26 AM) I imagine it will be Retherford or Gartrell. Cook to AAA, Christian Marrero or Greg Paiml to AA, Seth Loman, Tyler Kuhn or Justin Greene to High A.
  8. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 16, 2009 -> 12:32 PM) I think Phelgey is going to get the bulk of the at bats. There is a huge difference between a 2nd round pick and an 8th round pick. Phegley also has a very ready bat. I guess it depends on what the club thinks of Dubler. There isn't any harm to having him work with the high school pitchers in Bristol or being in Great Falls as a backup for a short time until Phegley moves up to Kanny. However, since Dubler, an 8th round pick out of college, didn't end up playing in Kanny at all this season, I'd say the Sox aren't that high on him or he's out with some sort of injury none of us are aware of. It isn't a good sign if a college player repeats short season, unless it is because of an injury. As of right now, there are roster spots available at Winston-Salem and Charlotte, so players may move up and some rookie leaguers from last year may join the A ball teams. In fact, the Dash have had a n open spot for almost a week and nobody's filled it.
  9. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 10:50 PM) I wish your first name was Charles. That would be awesome and great for the site getting publicity That's not funny. It stopped being funny 28 years ago.
  10. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 10:36 PM) Soxtalk seems to be California laid back right now regarding the upcoming series. Maybe it's because we all got our collective hands smacked with a ruler about the quality of posts recently. As usual its fun to be part of the craziness that surrounds this series. We got the Oz and Blackjack thing going on right now in the center ring of this circus but tomorrow the sideshows stop and the games take over. I predict Gordon Beckham has his breakout series , hits his 1st HR and a Cub fan will throw it back on the field and bats .400 for the series. I hope I'm not adding to the "pressure" on the kid . Sox win the series taking 2/3. A.J./Milton...nuff said.
  11. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 01:27 AM) It's not a bad idea. Justin Cassel was pretty helpful in a writeup I did right after we drafted him, so facebook can be a good source. But, I know I messaged Shelby about an interview right after we drafted him and got no response, so it may not always work. Worth a shot, though, I guess. I think I could get an interview with Treybone for Future Sox.
  12. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 11:23 AM) Any word on what we got back? I think it's too late to rescind the trade. Looks like they jumped the gun trading Castillo with Andy Phillips filing for free agency.

    6/15 Games

    The Barons nailed down their first sweep of the season. I speak, it happens. Gnarly.
  14. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 10:23 PM) Dont be offended Jason usually gets his own name wrong and calls himself Jason Page on numerous occassions. No big deal. People tend to have a blind spot for the letter N. I've dealt with it all my life, amongst other name related things.
  15. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 09:43 PM) yup Wow. I could own that.
  16. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 07:21 PM) Of course it's the day I pick him in Beat the Streak. They do minor league games in that?
  17. Apparently he was excited to join Charlotte when he was first acquired. I guess that faded over the past two months.
  18. If this doesn't lead to a promotion for David Cook to Charlotte, I don't know what would.
  19. Why, I don't know. UPDATE: He filed for free agency.
  20. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 02:40 PM) Fixed. Gracias.
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 02:18 PM) He told some of the former Yankee minor league people that he was on the DL with bone spurs in his elbow. Sure. Bartolo Colon's on the DL for a legitimate reason as well.
  22. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 01:06 PM) Marquez Activated from DL BY John Morris (aka JPN) Norris.
  23. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 04:23 PM) According to this awesome website i just found, Javier Castillo was traded to the Mets to make room for Wilson Betemit. http://futuresox.com/frontpage/?p=225 Yeah, I wonder who writes all that stuff?
  24. QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Jun 15, 2009 -> 11:45 AM) I think that is a great plan. Flowers is going to be a great asset to the team, even if he never hits for a good average. How has his D been in B-ham? It gets asked all the time and I don't think I've ever seen an answer from someone who watches the Barons consistently. His defense is adequate enough. Nothing to be concerned about. His footwork on throws to second could use some tuning, but other than that, he's fine.
