  1. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 05:15 PM) I was thinking recently how a Dye trade would necessitate a switch. Did not think of that but it's a great idea. His name is pronounced "Die-Yahn," so it would be in the same ballpark.
  2. I'm not going to write off David Cook until he gets a shot. He'd be much more productive than Dewayne Wise. I wouldn't consider 12 HR and 40 RBI "not hitting."
  3. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 05:07 PM) I'm not sure Cook would be any worse than Wise. Seems to have better OBP skills and power than Wise. Like you said, he's probably a 4th-5th OFer and suffers since all the Sox starters in the OF are righties except Pods. Exactly, Cook >>>>> Wise.
  4. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 04:54 PM) Gotcha. That's encouraging that so many guys are so close. I really need to get to Birmingham sometime soon this summer! Somehow I've made it to Charlotte which is twice as far but not B-ham! Let me know, and I'll get you in for free.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 04:53 PM) Viciedo's only limitation is going to be the strikeouts. He's only got 45 K's on the season, which isn't bad in my opinion.
  6. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 04:46 PM) By "start 2010," do you mean they should be starting on the big league club in 2010? That they should be gunning for a roster spot at those points.
  7. Hey Princess Dye, are you going to have "Princess Dayan" as an alternate login?
  8. QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 01:47 PM) It's awesome living in IL and having to watch the Cardinals game on FOX. Yeah, f*** you FOX. In Alabama, we get Mets/Yankees. That of course will be the third Yankees game I've watched this week after the two national Red Sox/Yankees games from earlier this week.
  9. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 03:33 PM) Yes, and Cameron faked a throw home and held on to the ball too long allowing Beckham to take second. Not sure what he was thinking. That's him trying to stick it to the White Sox.
  10. In my opinion, the ETA's for the Barons players should be as follows... Tyler Flowers - Now Brandon Allen - start 2010 C.J. Retherford - middle 2010 or start 2011 Dayan Viciedo - start 2011 John Shelby III - start 2011 Jordan Danks - start 2010 David Cook - NOW NOW NOW Stefan Gartrell - start 2010 or middle 2010
  11. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 04:08 PM) I like that one. Carlos never really walked a lot, but he also didn't strike out like Dayan. Dayan is a little bigger at the same age. I could def. see the same career path. Does that mean we will trade Dayan for the future spark plug to our next WS team? I'd keep Dayan, he came from a modest background, so he wants to produce, otherwise he's not happy with himself. I also think he could be much more special than Carlos Lee.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 04:05 PM) From what you've seen, is this Danks problem also? As a lead off hitter, he's supposed to look at a lot of pitches. He hasn't looked foolish at all when he's struck out. I wouldn't be concerned with his K's, they're mostly looking. Patience is not an issue for Danks.
  13. QUOTE (shipps @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 03:58 PM) He is Carlos Lee in the making. Carlos Lee would be a good comparison. He just so happened to be a third basemen when he played for the Barons.
  14. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 03:45 PM) How does Viciedo react to tailing sliders? I remember him overswinging in spring. He'll usually bite and miss. That's his big weakness at this point, pitch recognition.
  15. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 12:47 PM) Since you've had the opportunity to see him more than anyone else on here, what would be your best guess at what kind of hitter he'll turn into? Long term peak projection...I'd seriously say .285 to .300 average, 30 to 35 HR, 100 to 120 RBI. He really isn't trying to swing for the fences all the time, which is good for such a young player. He just wants to hit the ball. He's on pace for 10 HR and 72 RBI this year at age 20. As he develops more patience at the plate, his numbers will go up. He has incredible bat speed, so all he needs to work on in the minors is pitch recognition. He'll be deadly once he locks that in. He may always be a slow starter, he's warmed up at the plate along with the weather. I really think Dayan's as good as advertised, his home run numbers don't jump out at you. But, like I said, he isn't swinging for the fences, he hardly pulls at all. He seems to always be trying to hit it to the gaps. He tattoos balls to the right/center gap frequently. In a nutshell, he's got a major league bat.
  16. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 12:36 PM) Although I hope I'm wrong, I don't see Viciedo being more than a combination of Uribe and Beltre. You need to see him hit. He loves to hit it to the opposite field, much more often than pulling the ball. He has the ability to be a major RBI producer.
  17. I got hooked on the Caese because they had the pizzas available as a promotion at the Barons games. Use to be Monday nights, now it's Saturdays.
  18. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 13, 2009 -> 11:30 AM) Its not bad pizza if youre going for a cheap one. Around $5 for a large, Im in. Little Ceasars >>>>>>>>>Papa Johns/Dominos/Pizza Hut I second that.
  19. No Charlotte position player is in the top 5 in voting for the Triple A All Star Game. None of the starting or relief pitchers are in the top 10 in voting. Although I think Andy Phillips, Wes Whisler & Carlos Torres deserve votes.
  20. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 10:49 PM) 3 homer game for Seth Loman, I never understood why he was demoted to Kanny because home run power aside he was hitting reasonably well. Wasn't getting any playing time in W-S. Only DH'ed when he did play. But, they have an open roster spot, so someone may come up soon.
  21. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 10:45 PM) Magic number is 4, I think. But for all practical purposes, they've got the first half title wrapped up. They're 7 games ahead of the second place team. They have a 7 game lead with 9 games left to play. Guess I won't get to see them clinch at home this year.
  22. Well, some clarity on the issue. Knights third basemen Javier Castillo was traded to the Mets, so that should clear up a roster spot for Betemit. See my blurb about it on Future Sox.
  23. QUOTE (wilmot825 @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 05:06 PM) Soooooooo, he was retired in '05. We found him playing softball. Call him up Kenny! Isn't he like, 45?
  24. QUOTE (wilmot825 @ Jun 12, 2009 -> 05:02 PM) Can we bring back Chris Widger? I think he retired.
