  1. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 06:54 PM) Call him a b****, kick him in the balls, and run like hell!!! It didn't bother me as much, I like Aaron Poreda and all of you guys will too.
  2. QUOTE (Sockin @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 10:22 PM) Any chance Jordan got promoted to AAA to replace Gordon? Or was today just a routine day off? Jordan still needs more time, Beckham was and is ready.
  3. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 07:59 PM) The Sox will cut him loose. It's the right thing for both the organization and for him. There are MLB teams with injuries right now who could use an experienced backup catcher. He'll hook on with somebody. Adios Abraham Phillip Miller. But, the thing is, it's his choice to accept an assignment to AAA. So, the question I posed was what to do if he does accept. Technically now there is a roster spot with Beckham going up.
  4. So, he has until tomorrow to accept an assignment to Charlotte. If he does, who goes? Do you cut or demote Armstrong or Lucy? Not likely in my opinion since both have worked with a lot of the pitchers in the organization and have been in the system for several years. What good would it do to carry 3 catchers and let go of or demote a position player? It's possible Armstrong or Lucy could be demoted to B'ham since they're both behind Flowers on the depth chart anyway. Armstrong could be the lefty backup to Flowers, and have better success hitting in AA. I'm still convinced that Cole was rushed to AAA. Not that I don't like Jared Price, he's solid defensively and can pop a homer every once in awhile. I just don't see the necessity to hold onto Corky Miller. He should have been outright released, because it may be more of a problem for the White Sox to try to hold onto him.
  5. I got to see Gorkys Hernandez in person last week when the M-Braves were in town to play the Barons. He's a solid ballplayer, he hit well over .300 and was leading the SL in a lot of offensive categories. He was the other player Atlanta got in the Jurrjens/Renteria deal. Man, Frank Wren fleeced Detroit on that one, and now he turns Hernandez and two pitchers into McLouth.
  6. QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 05:05 PM) He's saying this thread is pointless and if you wanted to say it, you should have said it on Twitter. What Twitter? I don't personally have one, and I wanted to share that with all of you. I'll let the mods decide whether or not a thread is pointless.
  7. QUOTE (TitoMB345 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 05:09 PM) So what happens after that though? Bullpen duty? I'm sure Whisler will go back to Charlotte to take the open rotation spot.
  8. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 04:50 PM) Was that intentional or did you just not get the joke? I got it, it just seemed irrelevant to what I was talking about.
  9. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 04:11 PM) He's just being a smartass. Twitter allows you to post up to 140 characters. If you get to meet him, make sure you are wearing some sort of Sox apparel. This isn't some fad like Twitter, this is Soxtalk. I'll wear a Sox hat.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 04:04 PM) Hmm....oh I guess it's more than 140 characters. Huh?
  11. Me to my wife to her co-worker to her co-worker's husband to Jake Peavy. Yeah. Seriously. The co-worker's husband and Peavy are longtime friends and hunting buddies. This is news to me. Peavy's from Mobile, AL by the way. I also have a chance to meet him in a suite at Turner Field if by some miracle he's still with the Padres at the end of August.
  12. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 05:18 PM) The Phiilies are starting a rookie pitcher tonight. http://philadelphia.phillies.mlb.com/team/...layer_id=455374 Hells yeah, just not a Phillies jersey though. I bet the people at MLB Shop would think that it was crude and not make it according to their language policy on custom jerseys.
  13. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 01:59 PM) I still find it weird that Cook and McCulloch haven't been promoted. Both for (better or worse) have proven that they have reached their potential in AA, and need to make way for younger players. I'm stunned that David Cook is not in AAA. I just don't get it. Are Michael Restovich, Brian Myrow or Daryle Ward that essential?
  14. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 05:09 PM) Fair point, Marrero it is. Shirek is welcome too.
  15. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 04:31 PM) Would the team get that much worse if they called up Morel or Marrero and Charles Shirek? I certainly don't want to rush these kids, but i wouldn't want to impede their development for a 28 year old Of and a bust of a 1st round pick Where would Morel play?
  16. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) Ah, i saw he was wearing 6 with the Knights and kinda made a generalization. Sorry. No big deal.
  17. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 04:38 PM) He's been wearing 6 at every level, i imagine he'll keep it. He wore #5 with the Barons, they have no #6 jersey. In fact they have no jerseys at all with a 6. No 6, 16, 26, 36, 46 etc. He wore #8 with Kanny last year. Eduardo Escobar was wearing #6 when Beckham joined the team. I think they'll give him #6 when he goes up.
  18. QUOTE (CanOfCorn @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 04:19 PM) People who cross in front of you during a pitch or play. Ugh...even in B'ham that's infuriating. Not only that, but when they just stand up in front of you.
  19. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jun 2, 2009 -> 11:35 AM) Anyone know how Flowers has been defensively? Does he seem to be improving at all? How about game calling? The thing I've noticed is his footwork. I think that is his biggest issue that he needs to work on. His arm is fine, I just think he is slow popping up and moving his feet when he throws. His game calling is fine as well, nothing of concern to me. I wouldn't say he's a defensive stud, but I haven't seen anything that leads me to believe that he's not at least above average, with room for improvement.
  20. The Barons have hit as a team 56 homeruns.
  21. June bringeth the runs.
  22. QUOTE (bighurt4life @ Jun 1, 2009 -> 07:28 PM) Danks homers opposite field in Birmingham. Who says that his power hasn't ever developed. He's been in a mini-slump, good to see him go yard. They're playing in Huntsville.
  23. So, when does everybody think Slayer's headed to Chicago? I'd say by the end of the month. I didn't see anything while he was here that made me think he needed much time in the minors or a lot of seasoning. The coolest thing I saw him do was during an at bat, he was thrown an offspeed pitch, he started to swing, realized that he was swinging too early, stopped, then swung. I know he made contact, can't remember what he did though. He's got a great approach at the plate, never looked foolish at all in the times I saw him. He's ready.
  24. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ May 30, 2009 -> 11:57 PM) How can anyone put Dana Jacobsen on this list??? Yuck dude!! Holly Rowe FTW yummy Yeah, I like Holly Rowe as well. Dana Jacobsen is on there for a laugh, and because I think she's probably not as butch as she looks on TV.
  25. B'ham's division lead is slipping and Mobile is catching up. There's 19 games left in the first half, the Barons need all the good mojo they can get.
