QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 9, 2009 -> 10:38 AM) How has AP's offspeed stuff looked to people this season so far? We've heard repeatedly that getting better feel of his change and slider were all that was standing between him and being a really solid guy, given the speed and movement on his fastball. Is he actually ready? He's been throwing a ton of offspeed stuff the past month. I would have given him more time, but he should be fine. Hopefully A.J. and Castro can help him with pitch selection.

I had a feeling that Friday night was the last time I'd see him pitch in person. The Barons now have zero left handed pitchers. Congratulations Aaron! You guys are going to love him up there.

Diego Seastrunk. Period.

Omo's fastball was flat and he was hanging it. Although it was still running up to 95 MPH. Dayan's not going to be a .330 hitter, but if he works counts better like he did tonight, he can definitely sit in the .290 to .300 range. Pat Burrell went 0-5 with 3 K's. I heckled him, calling him "Slow Bat Pat." He also big leagued the fans and didn't stick by the Montgomery uniform policy. They all wear their socks high, like B'ham. But, he didn't. Montgomery has been putting an extreme shift on for Brandon Allen all week, outfield and infield.

Hey Chet, your avatar is going to be Beckham's Barons baseball card.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Jun 8, 2009 -> 01:39 PM) who is going down after the game when contreras is activated? Whisler i assume, right? I posted this a few posts above your question... "I imagine Whisler will be sent back to Charlotte, since Contreras will be leaving a hole in their rotation and Whisler was a starter there before he was called up. " Seems like the logical move to me.

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 6, 2009 -> 09:16 PM) Great start for Lucas Harrell. 8 shutout innings. 2 hits, 0 walks, 3 strikeouts. Hate that I missed it. Yep, I didn't go. It's okay, it was my wife's birthday, I wanted her to do what she wanted to do.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 5, 2009 -> 05:48 PM) On a DFA they get 10 days to do something. I don't know if they released him or not. I don't think it really matters to anyone but Corky and his family. I had read that he was supposed to decide by yesterday whether or not to accept the assignment to AAA. He's now listed on Charlotte's roster, but like I said, the media guy for the Knights said he is not with them at all. He didn't say he was not with them yet.
-
I e-mailed the media guy for Charlotte, and he said that Corky Miller is "not with us." Anybody know anything official? I haven't seen anything that says he did or didn't accept an assignment to AAA. All I've seen was that he was outrighted. If he was coming, he would have said "he's not here yet."

QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 07:08 PM) Four teams. Four rainouts. See you tomorrow. So, B'ham's game was washed out? It doesn't have a status on it.

Oh yeah, the same co-worker's dad coached Gordon Beckham in high school. Apparently he also is or use to post here.

QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 12:33 PM) Yes.

QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 12:03 PM) Maybe they can pull a trade like this for him... Maybe for 20 cases of Milwaukee's Best, or the generic food stamp beer.

Can anybody going to the game confirm what his walk up music is? It was "Your Love" by The Outfield while in B'ham.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 11:34 AM) I'd like them to just release Miller and promote Cook. That would make too much sense.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 11:22 AM) The catching situation down there was already messy with Lucy and Armstrong splitting time, now its terrible. I can't think they will keep all three there for long. Looking at the breakdown, with Negron on the DL, they really need another outfielder... C- Armstrong, Lucy, Miller 1B- Myrow, Phillips, Ward 2B- Ginter, Lillibridge, Phillips, Torres 3B- Castillo, Ginter, Phillips SS- Lillibridge, Torres LF- Restovich, Phillips CF- Lillibridge RF- Kroeger, Restovich

According to his Wikipedia page, Beckham's nickname is "Bacon." Huh? Can anybody explain this to me?

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 07:43 AM) Corky is going to be in AAA at best no matter what happens. Maybe he thinks Castro is an injury waiting to happen so he accepts assignment. I would imagine his agent has called every team to see who is interested and they can look at their catching situation. It more than likely 2009 is the Corkmeister's last season as a player, and chances are he's had his last major league at bat. So, he did accept the assignment to Charlotte. Makes sense, who needs another outfielder when you can carry three catchers? Especially when Lillibridge is the only active player who can play CF.

QUOTE (soxfan-kwman @ Jun 4, 2009 -> 10:48 AM) #15 For Slayer So, Charley Lau was that important that his number has had a moratorium on it indefinitely?

QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 10:52 PM) I have a feeling Poreda will never pitch one pitch with the White Sox. Unfortunately, you're probably right.

I'm ashamed of myself for not getting his autograph. He did touch my Sharpie though. Please don't think less of me, guys.

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jun 3, 2009 -> 10:13 PM) I edited his wikipedia page. woohoo! Be careful about that. Some of those Wikipedia mods are and can be nutters.
