Shockingly enough, Kent Gerst has been promoted from Kanny to W-S. Also, the Knights game will be on MiLB.tv tonight if you guys want to see Contreras get lit up in AAA.
-
Beckham's DL stint is retroactive, so he will be activated within two or three days.

First off, some good news about Slayer...his DL stint is retroactive, so he should be activated within two or three days. So, those of you who are going to Jackson, Tennessee to see the Barons, all hope is not lost. The only drawback is you may not see David Cook, because I'm pretty sure he'll get promoted to Charlotte when Beckham's activated. Secondly, I left early, when it was 12-1. But, I saw Danks' first 3 AB's. First impressions, he's definitely got the tools and the talent...and the height, goodness, I think he's actually 6'6" or 6'7". He gets down the line very quickly and he covers ground well in CF. If you were listening, he almost had a homer in his third AB. Missed by a few inches, but it may have been robbed anyway by Chris Heisey. Speaking of him, the Reds got a special player in Heisey. Carolina hit the ball hard all night, Ely and Zaleski weren't getting anything by their hitters.

B'ham's not that far from where you guys are, especially Nashville. You drive down here, I'll get you premium seats for free.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 12, 2009 -> 03:45 PM) Who are Zack Larson and Brandon Short? I figured if they released Inouye, they'd bring up Dubler. Too bad on Inouye - looked for a while like he might make a nice utility guy down the line. Zach Larson is an undrafted FA from San Diego Mesa Junior College who played for Great Falls last year, he's a catcher. Brandon Short is an OF who played for Bristol last year, he was a 28th rounder from St. John's River CC.
-
Matt Inouye was released from Kanny, Zack Larson & Brandon Short were promoted to Kanny from extended spring training. Now, let's see who takes the open roster spots in Charlotte and W-S.
-
By the way, Kenny Williams Jr. was also put on the Kanny DL. That means that Kanny, W-S & Charlotte all have open roster spots as of right now.

QUOTE (Cali @ May 12, 2009 -> 01:10 PM) Way to Go JorDanks! And get well Beckham From what I saw of him in warmups last night, he'll only need that week.
-
Rehab players don't count against the roster limit.
-
Daryle Ward was put on the DL in Charlotte, so they have an open spot for David Cook. Plus, playing time wise, Cook won't see much time with Danks in B'ham.

Good news, bad news.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ May 12, 2009 -> 12:14 AM) Is the Retherford situation basically that he's at 2B to get at-bats with the plan to move him elsewhere later on, or is he actually a 2B prospect now? How is he doing over there? Maybe he becomes kind of like our Blake DeWitt or something, but with a little bit more pop. I think he's doing fine over there. But, his best tool is his .300 caliber hitting prowess. So, he's a "find him a spot" guy.

Beckham was jogging gingerly but swinging a bat normally during warmup. So, hopefully he can get back in the lineup soon.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ May 11, 2009 -> 05:27 PM) Oh, if the Nats don't pick him he won't go very far and definately not to the Sox pick, which I believe is 23rd. Yeah, I checked. The White Sox are picking 23rd. This thread is pointless, he isn't going to fall to 23 unless he needs arm surgery.
-
So, say he hits free agency this winter. Do the White Sox put on a full court press for him? Discuss...
-
Where are the White Sox picking? I doubt he'd slip that far.

Minor League Catch-All thread 2009 edition
JPN366 replied to southsider2k5's topic in FutureSox Board
Miguel Socolovich was placed on the W-S DL and Kevin Asselin was promoted (from extended spring training I assume) to take his place. He pitched for Bristol last year and was a 30th round pick in 2008. -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 11, 2009 -> 07:44 AM) Justin Cassel led the Southern League in ERA last year, and was looked at as a guy who might be a future starter if he handled Charlotte well. Unfortunately, so far, he hasn't. Lucy got spiked in the head, stayed down a while, got up and kept playing? Dude is one tough SOB. I told you guys he was tough.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 10, 2009 -> 06:32 AM) Kroeger has his OPS up to .858, hitting .405 in his last 10 games with 4 HR and 4 doubles. Cole Armstrong with a hit raises his average to .146, but also made his second error. He's really struggling. Brandon Allen now hitting .300, OPS approaching .900. I just can't get over how good CJ Retherford seems to be, as an undrafted free agent. His OPS is now 1.007. And he seems capable of playing every position on the field. Fernando Hernandez seems to have figured out the Southern League, in his 2nd year there. Probably time to move him up to Charlotte, pending whatever pitching roster moves the Sox might make. This is Fernando's third year in B'ham.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 7, 2009 -> 03:37 PM) LOL, yeah, seems awfully strange to put a 5'9", 180 pound guy who has played most of his career at SS or 2B, over at first. Meanwhile, their starting SS is Brent Brewer (LOL, Brewer the Brewer), who is 6'2" and 198 pounds, and has 9 errors at SS in 25 games. Looks to me like they have people in the wrong positions. Brevard County's batting coach is named Corey Hart.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ May 7, 2009 -> 11:42 PM) http://blog.al.com/birmingham-news-sports/...ut_14_hits.html Nothing in the game story in the BIRM News about it. They've been pulling him in blowouts.

QUOTE (BearSox @ May 7, 2009 -> 05:11 PM) I agree. I think God hates baseball because usually the first 1-2 months for baseball, the weather is crappy. It's either bitter cold, or non stop rain. But I don't see what you can do except maybe those sail things Balta was talking about. No way minor league teams will start building domed stadiums. However, as I stated the other day, all new ballparks in the MLB should be required to be built with a retractable roof. I think it's beyond idiotic that all the new stadiums that have come up over the past couple of years, and most of them that are coming up shorty are all open. Minnesota is having an open stadium! Are you kidding me? You think early April Games are bad in Chicago, they will likely be much worse in Minnesota. Well, there's been talk for a while of building a dome stadium/multi-purpose facility in B'ham. Although that is a ludicrous proposition, since there is already such a facility and it's empty most of the time. As well as the fact that Regions Park is only 21 years old and has recently received upgrades that will make it viable for 20-30 more years. Plus, there is enough parking area around the stadium to build two more stadiums on, they never run out of parking. Look at it on Google Earth if you get a chance. Although it would be grueling, I think it would be logical to have as many northern teams on the road most of the time for the first month of the season in MLB. Minnesota is going to have to deal with a lot of delays in April of every year, and people won't like it since they're use to not dealing with that at all.

QUOTE (BearSox @ May 7, 2009 -> 05:02 PM) Maybe, but I'd still love to see double header Sundays. That's fine, but when you have as many games rained out as there have been lately, it's not always fun. Personally, I'm a little sore that Barons are making up a home game that was rained out on Monday in West Tenn. I pay for 70 home games, this year I get 69.
