If Pods gets recalled, will Fields change his #?
JPN366 replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Don't know if anyone saw this... "Josh Fields, meanwhile, said he'd be willing to give No. 22 to Podsednik when the Sox return home." -
Omogrosso's fastball was really humming tonight. I think I've discovered Flowers' weakness throwing runners out. It's his footwork. He doesn't shuffle his feet forward when he jumps up to throw. Viciedo's homer was a low liner to left center. He is gonna be deadly when he finally starts pulling. Beckham's second double barely was fair. It hit chalk in the left field corner. He also made a spectacular diving catch in short left. Full layout dive on a blooper.

QUOTE (soulfly @ May 1, 2009 -> 09:49 PM) Richar had it before he was traded to the Reds. Don't think anyone else used it since. Willie Harris? -
Keith Ginter has been activated from Charlotte's DL and takes the available roster spot.

Scott Podsednik, uniform #1. -
RHP Ricky Brooks takes the open roster spot for W-S, he had been on the DL. Waiting to see who takes the open spot for Charlotte. I'm assuming that Owens and Podsednik are swapping places, but that still leaves one open spot for Charlotte. Jayson Nix could be taken off rehab and added to the active roster since he's technically not taking up a spot now. Or, Keith Ginter or Ryan Z. Braun could be activated from the DL.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 11:34 PM) That's what Hawk Harrelson has been calling Corky Miller. Jared's a better player than that.

Nothing much to report from the game tonight. David Cook's first homer was one of his patented cannon shot's I've talked about so many times. The second was a high, majestic one. My friends and I gave him a "we are not worthy" bow. Viciedo seems to be getting more comfortable at the plate, he's still not pulling the ball. I can only imagine what he can do when he actually sees a fastball. On the video board, Shelby III was Eddie Murphy from his standup show, Beckham was Swayze from Dirty Dancing, Flowers was Maverick from Top Gun, Allen was Mr. T from Rocky, Viciedo was Lionel Ritchie "All Night Long (All Night)", Cook was Prince from Purple Rain, Gartrell was Rick James "Superfreak", Retherford was a member of Devo and Price was the Hoff from Knight Rider. According to my friend Adam, Aaron Poreda is a karaoke nut, and C.J. Retherford doesn't mind getting props while taking a leak.

QUOTE (Cali @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 08:00 PM) I want to be excited about Hudson, but Corwin Malone struck out 16 guys once....haha Corwin Malone spent 7 years with the Barons. 7 years. Marinate on that one. He's still only 28. Watching him pitch those last few years was tasking. The pace of the game would come to a screeching halt. You think Rafael Betancourt works slow, you haven't seen anything until you watch Malone.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 30, 2009 -> 08:34 PM) Diamond Jaxx finally scored an unearned run. C Price (who's the Corkaroo of that team) had a passed ball with runners at 1st and 2nd and then whipped a throw past Viciedo into LF (trying to get the advancing runner), so kind of a double-error on one play. 6-1 going into the 6th. What the hell is a Corkaroo?

B'ham reliever Mike Johnston has been put on the DL, Matt Zaleski was moved up to B'ham to take his place. That means that W-S has an open roster spot and Zaleski's promotion leaves them with only 11 pitchers. So, that could mean a promotion for a pitcher from Kanny. W-S is off today, so whomever it is may not move up until tomorrow. Keep in mind that Charlotte has an open roster spot now too with Marquez going on the DL.

Beckham teaching hunnies how to play ball...
JPN366 replied to caulfield12's topic in FutureSox Board
"Wake Up, Alabama" was conceived by my friend who produces the show. They specifically hired ditzy women to host the show, there's like 5 of them. The original ad campaign was billboards that said "Wake up with ____" and it had one of the women on it with their name. -
QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 04:29 PM) Hmmm.... could create a spot in the rotation for... Freddy Garcia. Why not? If nothing else, it might entertain Charlotte fans for awhile. If the Mets don't want him and he's getting lit up in AAA, I wouldn't hold my breath. More than likely, Cassel and Egbert go into the rotation to fill Marquez and Broadway's spots, and Keith Ginter is activated from the DL to fill the last open roster spot.

And the White Sox will eat his contract.

I watched the Charlotte game, Phillips had his first homer in the 3rd, then his second in the 4th. Which was followed by Restovich and Castillo with theirs. Although Kroeger was in between, so it wasn't back to back to back, just two of the homers were in a row. Apparently Jeff Marquez has been placed on the DL.

The boys are back in town tomorrow night!

QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 02:21 PM) I just noticed that Christian Marrero and his 1st round draft-pick brother are both playing in the Carolina League this year. And Christian is outhitting him by about 100 points right now. Nice. A little sibling rivalry fueling his batting surge maybe? His brother is repeating, Christian is in his first go round in High A.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 01:20 PM) Roll Tide. No...don't. Spare me from having to hear that on Soxtalk. I have to hear that enough in day to day life as it is.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 01:20 PM) Didn't realize his first start in AA was all the way back in 2006. Yep, he made two starts after a promotion from W-S and pitched a total of about 5 innings. He hurt his back, and we didn't see him again until a year ago.

I imagine these will be available to watch on their website. If not, I'll ask my friend, who's the producer of that show, to get them uploaded on there or on YouTube. Beckham vignettes CBS 42

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 29, 2009 -> 08:09 AM) Jeez, has anyone checked out Cole Armstrong's numbers so far? .129/.156/.194 for a .350 OPS. He's drawn one walk, but struck out 14 times, which is nearly half his at bats (31). I agree with Kalapse, I usually tend to give prospects some leeway based on talent, but Marquez has been awful in all 4 outings he's had at Charlotte. Anyone seen him pitch down there at all? Anything stick out as to why he'd be THAT bad? The game was on MiLB.tv last night, so is today's moring game (10AM CT), didn't see anything that was all that obvious as to why he's struggling. Maybe he just sucks. Although he had very little command. To be fair, Charlotte just played bad all the way around.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 10:47 PM) Third, technically. Brief appearance in 2006. As far as Montgomery goes, there are some sites affiliated with the Civil Rights movement that are interesting and the Southern Poverty Law Center, if you're into that kind of thing. The Civil War battle of Shiloh was all the way to the northeast of Mississippi/southern TENN, so that's about all I remember from my visit to that region. Huntsville is fun, there's the space and rocket center if you're into that kind of thing. BTW, Dayan Viciedo has his 2nd stolen base tonight. Go Cuban Tanko. "The Gump" is a hole. But so is B'ham.
-
By the way, W-S has really heated up. The pitching is owning and the hitters are unconscious.
-
Gosh, you guys keep up better with the road games than I do.

QUOTE (chunk23 @ Apr 27, 2009 -> 06:48 PM) I really wanted to go to tonight's game. What a terrible time for finals. B'ham and Montgomery aren't far from Mobile. Just up I-65 for both. The Barons will play in Montgomery a fair bit since they're in the same division.
