According to MLB Trade Rumors, Egbert is being called up.
-
Maybe Justin Cassel's ready to come off the DL if Egbert goes up. Or maybe that's a spot for Jayson Nix. His rehab assignment only runs through tomorrow's game, and that is an 11AM game.
-
He's only played 10 games so far, and the weather has been cold here and up near the Smokey Mountains. He has hit the ball hard and he does have some RBI's. Once he settles down, and stops swinging at everything, he'll be fine. The only thing that I've seen that I'd be concerned with is his defense at third.

QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 11:26 PM) Elaborate. The company line is that KW and Sox scouts really like him because he has alot of movement on his pitches. That's also what Steve Stone said after watching him during spring training. What are you seeing that we're not hearing? He pitches himself into jams, he goes into a lot of deep counts. He nibbles too much for a reliever. He doesn't attack hitters enough.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 10:51 PM) Matt Craig's still playing? Wasn't he in the Cubs organization for years? Yeah, and he doesn't have thick skin at all. He was rattled. He kept glaring at my friend and making gestures at him. I think he was implying that my friend had "big balls" to be messing with him. Because as we all know, Matt Craig is a bad MF. Or, he was calling my friend a "jerk off."

Nothing much to report, I was too busy laughing while my friend was heckling Jacksonville's first basemen Matt Craig. Jayson Nix looked sluggish playing shortstop.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 09:25 PM) ...Also Jhonny Nunez rocks. The numbers may be good, but the process is ugly.

If they do anything other than outright release Jerry Owens, then they're crazy. Sending him back to Charlotte yet again would just be a waist of everybody's time.

QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 12:03 PM) Great news. I wonder what the timeline is for the Sox to bring him back up. Well, it's only three games, I imagine something will occur Thursday or Friday. If they want him in the majors, then Jerry Owens could be on borrowed time. If they want him in Charlotte or to continue his rehab up there, Keith Ginter may be in trouble.

From the Barons weekly newsletter...and I thought the Esteban Loaiza rehab stint last year was exciting... Jayson Nix to Rehab with Barons White Sox second baseman Jayson Nix will begin a three-game rehab stint with the Birmingham Barons when the team opens a 5-game series with Jacksonville Monday night at Regions Park. Nix, who competed for the White Sox starting second baseman gig during Spring Training, has been out with a strained right quadriceps since the middle of March. He originally injured the quadriceps during a Spring Training contest on March 4 playing against the Cubs in Las Vegas, and re-injured the leg trying to let out a double against Arizona on March 17. He hit .462 in seven Spring Training game. A member of the Colorado Rockies organization for the previous eight seasons, Nix signed with the White Sox in October. The 26-year old opened the 2008 season as the starting second baseman for the Colorado Rockies before being designated for assignment at the end of April. He was later optioned to Triple-A Colorado Springs where he hit .303 with 17 home runs 51 RBI for the Sky Sox. Nix has also been affiliated with USA Baseball for the past two years, earning the starting second baseman job for Team USA during the Beijing Olympics. His time in Beijing was cut short when Nix squared to bunt against Cuba, only to have the ball ricochet off the bat and into his eye. He received a two-inch gash above his left eye and didn't return until the medal round, a week later. He ended the tournament hitting .214 with one home run and one RBI. Nix was also named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2007 World Cup in Taiwan as well as USA Baseball's Athlete of the Year in 2007. He hit .387 (12-for-31) with six extra-base hits during the World Cup, including a two-RBI performance in a winning effort against Cuba in the Finals. Jayson's older brother Laynce is an outfielder in the Cincinnati Red organization.

QUOTE (Wanne @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 06:41 PM) Beckett gets his suspension reduced...and won't even miss a start. What's the point of suspending starting pitchers if they don't even miss a start? I'm sure everybody's seen the play and all...and in my opinion Beckett's turned out as a mini-punk-ass Clemens. All badass when he doesn't have to hit. Very talented pitcher...but he's turned into probably the person on another team I hate the most. The Red Sox are trash and Fenway is a big dumpster.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 02:16 PM) They're both junkballers, an interesting contrast to their brother. At least their IQ's go higher than 70.

Jeremy Papelbon has a twin brother named Josh who pitches for the Salem Red Sox.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 12:26 PM) Birmingham was rained out. I wonder if they'll shuffle the rotation and start John Ely tomorrow or skip him over and keep it as is.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 19, 2009 -> 11:38 AM) I have to go see the Barons at home. They have a Razor Shines Party Room. A Michael Jordan room, a Robin Ventura patio, Frank Thomas deck, etc.
-
A severe beatdown in Sevierville for the Barons.
-
QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Apr 18, 2009 -> 08:24 PM) Birmingham scoring 5 runs against a Papelbon. Love it. I think seriously that Jonathan Papelbon is mentally deficient.

QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 18, 2009 -> 07:43 PM) Carlos Torres with his second consecutive very good outing for Charlotte. (He's still in the game.) After 5 innings: 0 runs on 3 hits; 7 K's and 2 BB's. Carlos is a K machine, he locates his fastball really well and it gains velocity the longer he pitches during a start. He's the David Cook of pitchers in the White Sox organization. Plus, he's hysterical.

HAHAHAHA! Charlotte's radio station's call letters are WFNA. F-N-A.

QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 18, 2009 -> 12:57 AM) looking at the stats, Myrow is a vet minor league player who has put up some big numbers in AAA. Maybe they view him as more of a leader and perhaps even mentor for the younger players. Not many of them are younger. In fact, him and Broussard are the same age. Andy Phillips is 32 as well.
-
Reggie Willits or Gregor Blanco could be had for not much.
-
Raise your hand if you would like to have Aaron Cunningham back.
-
Well, at least Andy Phillips should turn things around for Charlotte. Ben Broussard was bringing the clubhouse down. To be fair, Andy Phillips was my favorite player for Alabama back in the day, plus Charlotte already had a left handed hitting 1B/DH in Brian Myrow, so Broussard was the odd man out. Phillips can play 1B, 2B, 3B, LF & RF and he's a right handed hitter. And, he's actually hitting over .300.
-
Man, Ben Broussard can't catch a break. He's had a rough year and a half. I hope his music career takes off.
-
Former Knights catcher Paul Phillips is his first cousin, they were born a week apart in 1977.
