  1. The curse of Mark DeRosa strikes again!
  2. QUOTE (Cali @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 05:31 PM) Is it just me or has Dayan seriously cut down on his K's and increased his walks recently? I saw him draw a walk last night.
  3. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 29, 2009 -> 04:32 PM) You can call it semantics, but switching from metal to wood bats is a big difference. All in all, it takes the basic skill. Aluminum gives you more pop off the bat and the ball travels faster. The batting averages of college players usually are well over .300 most of the time. Wood makes the hitter rely more on their own strength and making good contact. You have the skill both ways or neither. Beckham probably will only be a 20 HR guy at most with wood bats and hit a lot of doubles, but no one is complaining about that. J.D. Drew could hit 40 HR in college and has never approached that in the pros.
  4. Tyler Flowers has been using it since Beckham got promoted, and it's getting to the point where a large amount of people are singing it when it plays.
  5. QUOTE (danman31 @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 05:08 PM) Charlotte roughed up Broadway in a 7-3 win Allen 2-4, 2 RBI Torres 7 IP, 3 R Mobile @ Birmingham Shirek 7 IP, 1 R FYI Retherford slumping in June, below .300 overall. Potomac 10 @ the Dash 13 Morel with his 8th and 9th HRs of the year. '06 first rounder Christopher Marrero has 2 HR for Potomac. Edwards roughed up. Dash came back from 8-2 down to win. Kanny won 7-3 Phegley 3-4 at DH. Infante 7 IP, 2 R, 7 K, 0 BB, 3 H Billings 4 @ Great Falls 6 Colligan with his 2nd HR in as many games. Princeton @ Bristol Griffith start I'm liking that Colligan kid. Kinda looks like Dewon Day though.
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 10:02 PM) That's why we pay you the big bucks Then where are the checks????
  7. FYI, Jordan Danks wasn't wearing a brace anymore and was playing toss in the warmup before the game. He also caught the ceremonial first pitches.
  8. QUOTE (Jim Spencer @ Jun 28, 2009 -> 03:37 PM) I got to see him play once for Birmingham about 5 years ago and he reminded me of A-Rod. Little did I know he and A-Roid had more in common then just being big tall shortstops I got to see him a few times that year too, got his autograph as well. Did you go to a Barons home game or road game?
  9. ...for Ryan Langerhans. Morse had been raking in AAA for Seattle. If he could have been had that easily, why didn't the White Sox reaquire him for Charlotte?
  10. QUOTE (Markbilliards @ Jun 27, 2009 -> 01:09 PM) He has been pitching for Bristol, apparently he's just not named on the roster. Perhaps he's been promoted.
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 09:54 PM) 15th homer for David Cook. He left his wallet in Birmingham and he can't find it. That's the only logical reason he's not been promoted to Charlotte.
  12. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 09:28 PM) WTF... he doesn't want to play with us, but he'll gladly travel to the opposite end of the world and play ball in Japan? Not sure I get that one, unless he likes to travel and they offered him a nice size contract. I really wish we kept Phillips, both of them actually. They seem like good AAAA players who can step in a pinch when needed and be decent. I guess your referring to his cousin Paul Phillips who played for Charlotte last year and is now a backup for the Rockies? They offered Andy 400K to play there. Heck of a lot more than whatever he was making with Charlotte I would assume.
  13. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 04:52 PM) Especially as a first name. Good times. Or a last name...hint hint (see profile pic) or blurbs on Future Sox.
  14. He signed with the Hiroshima Toy Carp in Japan.
  15. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 03:02 AM) Omogrosso continues to struggle. Greene has a .917 ops in Kanny. I would think that he has little to prove in Low A anymore. Greene, Carter, Sauer have a High A sighting waiting. Hopefully they can make room for those three. Andy.. two years.. that's way too long buddy. I've said it over and over, W-S has an open roster spot. It's been open for more than two weeks. Even with all the movement lately, it hasn't been filled.
  16. QUOTE (JorgeFabregas @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 04:33 PM) Some good names in this trade. Hey...Norris is a great name
  17. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 02:53 PM) I have not followed the minor league system that closely to understand why there are so many calling for David Cook to get promoted. He is a 28 year old AA player batting .249, looks like he has some pop but so did Joe Borchard. I am not trying to flame, just curious. Well, he's been in AA all season when he should have been in AAA all year to this point. Every time we think he's going up, someone else does or is acquired.
  18. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jun 26, 2009 -> 01:57 PM) Hopper is a good fifth outfielder, AAAA guy, good baserunner and good range in the OF, bad pitch recognition to make contact and a below average arm, like Juan Pierre without the ability to slap the ball. Finally, there was no reason to keep Miller in Charlotte. Once again, David Cook is denied.
  19. Louisville and Charlotte are playing each other in Charlotte, the players will just have to switch locker rooms.
  20. I was starting to scratch my neck.
  21. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 05:31 PM) Like usual... seems it always comes down to the last day. Not last year, I knew the Barons roster almost a week ahead of time.
  22. QUOTE (scenario @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 05:10 PM) The only other game tonight is Birmingham @ Mississippi. W-S and Kanny have a couple of days off due to their respective league all-star games. But tomorrow both Bristol and Great Falls play their first games of the season! Looks like they're gonna wait to the last minute to post the rosters for Bristol and Great Falls.
  23. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 05:06 PM) Great numbers for Jack Egbert as a starter this season. Maybe he's just better suited to pitch every 5th game. He's definitely not a reliever, his stuff is more suited for starting.
  24. Todd Gossage, son of Goose Gossage, has been signed out of the independent leagues and will play for Great Falls. He's 25 and he played the past three seasons for the Chico Outlaws in the Golden Baseball League.
  25. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jun 21, 2009 -> 08:25 PM) Nothing like 95+ degrees every day. It's much worse than that here.
